I have been thinking about making a texture pack, so for my first attempt, I tried making strongly-defined patterns to better show tiling and seamlessness (or lack thereof).
And- okay, I did that. Because of asymmetrical and non-homogeneous textures, everything looks ridiculous.

So my question comes in two parts:
1. I realize that a pretty standard tip thrown around is to make textures homogeneous so as to make tiling subtle and easy on the eyes.
That in mind, how could an asymmetrical pattern (such as my bricks) be done tastefully? I'm not familiar with many texture packs, so could anyone could point me to someone who's done this well?
2. This second part is just a sanity check. If I change snow into, say, leaf debris, I realize that it would look hilarious when snow effects make a comeback- does anyone know if it'll be possible to change the snow effect into something else?
