Hi there!
So I made the mistake of making a corgi edit* for the wolves for a dear friend of mine, and then quickly realized with complete delight that I could make my own texture pack, instead of just marveling at everyone else's.
I'm not working off of any theme besides "Welp. I like this better," which may be a mistake (and probably why I can't think of a name.) I'd like to work off of themes in the future, perhaps when I have more experience with this.
In case you're having trouble spotting them, the following are all that I've worked on so far:
Cobblestone, stone, sand, dirt
Wool
Coal, Redstone blocks
Birch tree wood
I'm quite open to critique - Which is why I'm posting so early on, I guess.
I think I've tried and tested and edited the few things I've done fifteen times each so far, haha. And most of them still need fiddling. I'm kind of struggling between the desire to give into my need for following pixelling rules versus being really annoyed by obvious tiling. So far the latter is winning.
*sorry for the clutter on this screenshot. I'd spent about four hours looking for wolves at this point and ended up using a friend's, haha.
Oh this looks good, especially for a [16x] pack. I'm not going to install it, since I simply don't use WIP's (.. and it probably won't work with the mods I have installed, yet), but it looks amazing!
I am though wondering a bit about the cobblestone - is that the bubble-looking texture, next to the netherrack? Because I think it looks rather mysterious (.. not really in a good way, sorry).
I'm looking forward to see this finished. Bookmarked it, to keep track of progress.

Bookmarked. This is gonna be good. You might want to take the dark strip in the sand and chop it up a bit just to make it a little less prominant. Over a large scale that would create a noticeable pattern and probably become an eyesore. Dirt and sidegrass are my favorite so far. I actually like the ores alot too. I smell another popular realistic 16x in the making.
Cobblestone (everyone's weak spot) is meant to be dispatterned, unsymettrical and overall grody. Google cobblestone. It be nasty. I say rough it up and if you're ever going to include multiple alternative options, make a bunch of them for cobble because it seems everyone has a different take on how cobble should look.
Worked on a very few things this morning (before checking the thread, so I haven't taken into account any critiques yet.)
RE:name. I know, I need to, haha. I'm just not clever enough for a name yet haha.

I can easily believe it. First I tried little stone and then big stone and then square and then mediumish round and then what I have now. I knew I'd be coming back to it, but I didn't realize how terrible it looked until I made some steps out of it. Ouch!
I didn't work on much this morning:
A couple of trees, slight edits to the dirt. The regular tree has some awkward lines between the tiles right now (just like the sand. And the stone. herp a derp.). I liked the deep loamy look to the earth before, but wasn't a fan of how little contrast it had. I'm still not settled on the look but it's a bit more brown now, at least.
I'm going to have to learn about specifically editing biomes at some point in this adventure because I'm not best pleased with the top of grass.
I was originally trying to give sandstone a more natural look, but then realized I was in danger of slanting too make resource material textures in one direction, haha. I settled on a smoother look for now, but I'm sure I'll end up playing with more versions.
I appreciate the comments/critiques! I'm sure I'll end up revisiting most of these things more than once, so the input is quite helpful. (:
Wow man you've got the right ideas if you ask me. That is a god damn beautiful tree! The grass is some of the best I think I've seen. I believe that's sand and sandstone next to each other that I'm looking at? Exactly what I imagine natural sandstone would look like. I'm excited for this nameless pack! Considering it's not a themed pack, there's not really many appropriate names that don't fit a broad selection of names. Don't worry about it. Really not that important yet.
I like the colors and the definition that you're going for in this pack. Not easy to make things look sharp and defined in a 16x box. The only suggestions I can make are extremely minor and it involves making the tree bark and grass pattern smoother (it's like the final polish of any work). There's a noticeable zig zag in the dark areas of the grass, and there's a tiny dark strip in tree bark that's too prominent. I would recommend removing the dark spot in trees completely unless you'd rather make it blend, and I think a couple pixels of a lighter green in there somewhere can easily perfect the grass.
And maybe increase the size of the birch strips a little. That's it. I'm at a loss of complaints.
Aphex told me to come check out this pack and... Well... Quite frankly, it's amazing. I'm very impressed with your work so far. 16x respect!
Yes, there are a few tiling issues to iron out but overall this is great so far. Can't wait to see the finished product!
Once upon a time some random no name dude introduced a 16x texture pack with serious potential. Then, he disapeared. A man named Aphex singed the earth with bitter spite and scorn, longing for the taste of delicious dirt that was held in front of him by a string so long ago.

Unfortunate that an awesome pack with a lot of potential would die, when everyday someone comes here posting a custom painterly pack or a simple pack with no effort put in :'(

I know right? This has some of the best dirt and sidegrass that I've ever seen. I quite like the sand and sandstone as well. Ok Sheep, I do declare, you must steal this exact palette and include the dirt and sidegrass as alternatives in your tp.
That's quite insulting now that I think about it. Meh I'm drunk at 6:30 in the morning I could care less.
Seriously though, every now and then some guy who's inactive on forums and multitasks too much dabbles in works like this and then leaves his work alone. Quite often he/she says "well this probably isn't that good..." because he/she is a perfectionist and can't appreciate the quality of his/her own work. More often than not those people introduce some of the best work I've ever witnessed. It's a shame. Come back Mr. noname!
The sidegrass reminds me of Sonic the Hedgehog for some reason...

It does look like it O.o
Ok, well I just updated my pack so I have some free time now. I guess I'll attempt to recreate this grass and dirt by eye and put them in as an alternate in my pack.
I would be making them 100% from scratch so it's not stealing although if this guy comes back I might delete them and remove some of his competition ;D
It is sonic-y!

Once upon a time someone named Noel started working on a texture pack. And then her computer had a heart attack. Or a brain aneurysm. Or both. and she couldn't even play minecraft for months and months, which was a great travesty. And then the computer fairy visited Noel one night and in exchange for an unmnetioned amount of money, provided her with a new computer.
Thankfully, Noel was sensible and had backed up all of her files on an external HD, and within days of getting her new computer, eagerly returned to picking away at a presumably abandoned texture pack.
