Here's a little preview. Still very much a work in progress.
The first thing I've done is increase the brightness across the board on all textures. I realized that I did not like playing it at lower then 50% brightness (Minecraft setting) at home and 100% at work. I'm hoping that 0%-50% will be the comfortable range for myself and the majority of people. People with darker monitors or poor light should be able to find something that works in 50%-100% range.
In addition, I'll be increasing the brightness of the custom sky colour. Currently I'm using the plains biome sky as a base.
The picture above is of a jungle. There are a few key differences:
First is the lack of biome colours. While I do plan on adding different grass and foliage colours, they will be much more subtle then they are currently. Without that biome colours, it is still really obvious which biomes are which. Also, the way biome colour transitions are handled is kind of crap, in my opinion.
Second, new leaves and vines. I'm still working on both but this is roughly the direction I will be going. Jungle leaves and regular leaves are much more similar. Probably a little too similar at this stage, but as I said, still working on it. They are also a lot less dense the previously. Add the 'single' vine, the result is a more open feel (it will also make locating log blocks in trees easier.)
Right now I'm working with an adjustment layer to brighten in up. So all I have to do is turn it off to get it back to the default colours. I'm hoping people will give it a fair shake, though. My goal is to brighten it up but retain the moodiness.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm not going to be rushing out with the snapshots anymore. I found their release cycle a little too stressful before.
Regarding seasons. One of the long term goals (that I may not accomplish) is to provide thematic packs. Once I've finished with this overhaul, I'd like to produce 4 packs (earth, wind, air, water) similar to how Doku did it. If it turns out like I see it in my head, you could conceivably make seasons with clever use of the customizer.
I don't play multiplayer (never found a server that I feel comfortable on), are there really seasonal servers out there?

Great look on the leaves and vines, I like the direction The choice to brighten it up is fine as I know the general aesthetic will remain.
Its all very exciting stuff, I cant wait to try any new progress on the pack out. Keep up the excellent work!
Wow, this pack has changed a lot :o, but i like it except by people arguing about the lamps and glowstone... I like the new leaves and vines. You are not going to keep track of the snapshots anymore : ( well, you deserve rest Bonemouse. : D
Here's a picture of the new decorative stone brick. (Note: I'm playing with Thaumcraft installed, which is why there is a giant floating monolith.)
Based the design on Maxoliverblazer's decorative stone block (thanks!)
This is what I did yesterday, textures for the Iron Chests mod (picture is WIP.) I posted the download in the Unofficial Isabella Mod Support thread.
Because why not...

The files are a mess and I have also left my working Photoshop files in there (feel free to use/play with them for whatever purpose)
So... I tried it out for a couple of minutes and my general impression is: Looking good! I really like the slightly brighter colours - still moody, but less eye-straining! The enchantment glint is pretty nice, too - it's not as garish and sometimes you almost can't see it... and then it just twinkles enough to make itself known - that's pretty much exactly what I was hoping for, when I asked!
Perfect. Improved usability is a goal moving forward (though aesthetics will trump it in certain cases.) I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and glad I don't have to mouseover every item to see which have enchantments and which don't.
Something I didn't quite like... jungles seem to be a bit too bright now, especially the leaves. If normal trees had this leaf colour - perfect. For the jungle, it just doesn't feel quite right. Like the single vines, though.
That gives me an idea. I'm actually shying away from dramatic biome colour changes in this version. I also found that when the foliage is much darker in the jungles, they become way to visually overwhelming.
Now, if I change the jungle leaf colour in the terrain.png to be darker it could solve several issues. One, it would make jungle biomes more jungley. Two, differentiate jungle leaves with regular leaves. Three, only change the colour of the canopy since the ground trees in jungles use regular leaves.
My biggest complaint right now would be the plank textures. For one, you the only version across all 4 is the large planks, which i dislike, and I also find that they are too visually similar- especially birch and oak planks. I would also change the pine ones to make them darker. Other than that, its a great pack that I use frequently. Keep up the good work!
the particles don't show up. the letters from enchanting tables, the lava thingies and the special effects of the sword when enchanted don't appear. While testing i discovered this may be a bug from my minecraft, because dokucraft and the normal texture pack also don't have particles.i'll try to find a way to fix this.
EDIT:everything is working fine now.i changed optifine to minimal particles, and this is what was causing the problem.
So, I just tried the Beta changes and...I'm not liking the trees or the brighter tones all around. I had to switch between the Beta and the Anniversary version in order to find out why. One thing is that the leaves in the Beta have very apparent boundaries, the parts that would become transparent in Fancy graphics. It is rather jarring to seem them like that.
In addition, the leaves for oak and jungle trees are almost a teal color... Maybe I'm just used to seeing them in the Anniversary edition but it doesn't seem right, nor do the similarities in their designs leaves.
Also, the brightened textures seem to completely take away the moodiness that I've come to associate with this texture pack...and I play in moody lighting to begin with.
On the upside the subtler biome transitions, enchantment twinkle thing, and the circle stone bricks all look amazing. Sorry if I missed any changes, this is just what I saw as I walked around my castle/palace complex.

Thanks for the feedback!
Just to clarify, the boundaries you describe, are you referring to how they look with fancy graphics on or off?
The only other change that is worth mentioning is I made the crops slightly greener until they are fully grown.

The customizer option is incredible, i wish it could keep up with your Excellent work.
I hope your ego is sufficiently inflated, as it is well deserved, the day the updates to this pack end, is the day i will quit minecraft REALLY.
Thanks Bonemouse for your gift to all us minecrafters!
Peace, and congrats on your anniversary.

The mockup.
The final product.
Now I'm thinking that the square leaves are the way to go. The non-square ones add a lot of noise to environment and I don't think I want that.

And the new vines and leaves look great!
I was wrong. You can change the colour.
Sure!

Noted. Swamps are the only biome that I'm willing to have a more dramatic colour shift. So I'll tweak it some.
We're talking about the customizer, yes?

Yeah I was. Are you planning on updating it soon?

Nope, sorry, not any time soon.
