Also I think the hilarious 4-eyed-demon sheep thing could be easily fixed by moving the nostrils down a few pixels on the front part of the sheeps....cube...head....noggin.
Sheeps usually have pretty droopy faces from being ****in depressed because they are sheep, so it'd make sense for its nose to be a bit lower.
Brilliant idea though putting its eyes on the side of its head. I wish I'd thought of that ffffffffffffff.
I'll try to write better instructions at some point.
Basically, there are four downloads. These are all slightly different but you only need one.
The reason there are four is because there are currently bugs in the game. Some people don't mind doing a little more work to fix these bugs, while others do.
This pack is built around custom biome colours (grass and trees.) However custom biome colours do not work if you install the pack by placing it in texturepacks folder. So there is a pack that uses the default grass and tree colours.
Some people also find that biome colours don't work at all.
And finally, there are couple of mods that make the grass on the sides of the blocks always match the top (which is currently not the case in an unmodded Minecraft.)
So what pack is right for you?
-The easiest is Default Grass - Install by putting the zip file in your texturepacks folder.
-Now, if your grass is gray after installing a texture pack, then you download No Biomes and install the same way.
- Custom Grass requires you to open .minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar with WinRAR. Take the misc folder (the whole folder, not just the contents) from the the texture pack .zip file and place it in the root of your minecraft.jar file. Placing the texture pack .zip file in the texturepacks folder as per usual.
- Grass Fix requires a mod (such as ModLoader (with Grass Fix)) to function. If you can install the mod then all this other stuff will be very familiar to you.
So, it looks we'll be getting a "sidegrass" fix in 1.5. This is great because, at the very least, it's one less pack I have to maintain. Perhaps more, depending on how it works.
The new 1.5 blocks are done as best as I can with the little information we've been given. Snow, rain (which is nice and gray) and clouds are also done. What will delay the pack will be the new particles since we haven't been given their locations on the particles map.
@zekeyspaceylizard
I took your advice and lower the nostrils. This helped a lot with the demon sheep issue. I also extended the snout higher up the head to counteract the premature bladness look. Finally I made the nostrils lighter while making the bridge between them darker.
@E.G.
Thanks!
@Huey
I'm incredibly busy right now so it may be awhile until I get to the lighstone. There is an alternate texture already included in the pack (requires editing the png file) that doesn't have as intense frames. This might work for you in the meantime.
@LucenteEstreno
Yup! I'm working on it. Animations are hard and time consuming (64 frames!) The overlay will be available when I release (I have tricks to reduce the blueness of the underwater fog.) I do have a recoloured Painterly animation in OP, just so you know.
@stealth_droid
Not too sure which water you're talking about. But I have reduced the saturation considerably. It will be uploaded soonish.
Checking in again. This time, with pictures.
I've spent the past week, trying to get pictures of all the things I don't like about the pack. I'm not quite done yet, but you have to realize, that I've tried my best, to find all the flaws (besides your Demon Sheep) in your pack.
So, let's start with the pictures, shall we?
Birch wood looks too smooth, and boring.
The oven is round, I dislike.
The glass is gonna look weird on stone. I prefer small boards on planks. Apologies for the bad picture.
Iron has too many colored pixels in it.
Lava is too pure, gravel is fitting too little.
Portal. Need I say anything? I realize that I may have effed during installation.
Obsidian looks like black bubble-wrap, Redstone isn't gloomy enough. Apologies for the bad picture.
Please notice, that this is all pictures (and comments) made with the negative-hat on. I have been busting my ~ off, trying to find things I dislike about this pack, and so far, this is the only problems I've had so far.
.. Except for wool (which I haven't managed to get a pic of yet), which looks too much like a block of dyed steel.
One last thing: When underwater, a 'mask' is applied to the POV, which makes everything look blue. You should try and find that file, and change the color a bit, make it fit the water you added a bit better (the current 'mask' is too blue).
Keep up the good work Bonemouse!

First of all, thank you for taking the time to do this, mrisump. I do appreciate the honesty and frankness.

Birch wood looks too smooth, and boring.
It needs work. My goal was to have the logs be an appealing construction material. So they need to tile well (horizontally and vertically.) The less "smooth" the textures is, the worse they tend to tile. That said, in the current state, it's still rather unappealing to build with. So I'll see what I can do about it later.
Quote from mrisump »
The oven is round, I dislike.
This is something we'll have to agree to disagree on. I like the round furnaces. They look good inset in cobblestone, which is almost always where I put them. I'm still thinking about doing an alternate texture for it at some point. My primary goal, however, is to get the rest of the textures done first. (I'm itching to do the armor.)
Quote from mrisump »
The glass is gonna look weird on stone. I prefer small boards on planks.
Glass in stone doesn't look too bad, actually. I also prefer the wood as it is now but you aren't the only one who disagrees with me. I'm putting both in the "maybe do an alt texture" file.
Quote from mrisump »
Iron has too many colored pixels in it.
Ugh, yes! I'm not a fan of the ores. Iron and coal are set to get a revision at some point.
Quote from mrisump »
Lava is too pure, gravel is fitting too little.
Not quite sure what you mean about the gravel, to be honest. Clarification?
And I'm going to admit that I've never actually seen my lava textures in-game. I use the default lava (unchecked the "custom lava" option in the patcher.) Proper lava animation is on my to-do list. We can revive this discussion when I'm starting to work on that.
Quote from mrisump »
Portal. Need I say anything?
It's the default texture. On my to do list. Though, not high. I like the default. Also, the weird triangles are a bug with the new smooth lighting system and I can't do anything about it (same with the ice.)
Quote from mrisump »
Obsidian looks like black bubble-wrap, Redstone isn't gloomy enough.
I want to revise obsidian. And the desaturating the redstone a bit is easy enough to do, so I'll look into it.
Quote from mrisump »
One last thing: When underwater, a 'mask' is applied to the POV, which makes everything look blue. You should try and find that file, and change the color a bit, make it fit the water you added a bit better (the current 'mask' is too blue).
The mask is only part of it. There's a bright blue fog that is hardcoded into the game which will remain even if you make the mask 100% transparent. The trick I've learned is to use the mask colour to counteract it. It's a lot of trial and error so I need to finalize the water first.
its very nice and decent, but i was stunned when i saw the netherrack! its like a dull brown! it does not go good with my hall 'o' fire. the brick is dull too, i would suggest adding more color, dont hold back. make the netherrrack red and the brick atleast close to red. otherwise great. i give 2 notches for you
i also think the wood is a little to simple/not detailed. fix those things and you will earn another notch :biggrin.gif:
Not quite sure what you mean about the gravel, to be honest. Clarification?
The gravel looks a bit too sand-gray-ish, to fit into a deep cave system. Especially next to the stone texture; It also looks weird next to dirt, since it's simply too gray-ish.
I'll try to give you a picture later on, which should describe it a bit better.
Oh, and one more thing: I prefer sandstone with a smooth top. I am able to edit this myself, I'm just throwing it out there. Stand by for more pictures; Keep up the good work!

Those all sound like excellent changes to the sheep texture bonemouse, I'm looking forward to getting a look at it--and thanks for directing my attention to the lightstone alternate. I'd also like to note that there are a couple alternate netherrack textures in there too, for those players that like a "hotter" hell, like petey5. I personally kind of like the Hades-esque depressing grey though, and am using the default. I think it fits with the general mood of the pack really well.
As far as additional feedback goes, I'd like to comment on the record player block. I think it's very high-quality, but I'm not sure how well it fits in with the rest of the pack. If this were a pack like some others, using fridges for dispensers, ovens for furnaces, and otherwise "modern-looking", I could see the giant speaker fitting. But in a pack full of rustic, antique textures (old-school stone furnace, riveted steel doors, etc), I think it's kind of mood-breaking. This is purely a stylistic complaint, and the texture itself is quite good, but it might be worth thinking about "when" you want your pack to take place.
And if I'm already complaining, I figured I'd second a couple of other things posted in this thread: It's been mentioned that the cloth looks like steel. I don't see that, personally, but I did notice that it has very distinct edges. This works great for furniture and indoor stuff, but really hinders it as a building material. It's hard to make something "flow" with textures like that. As with the noteblock, though, I still think that the texture itself looks great, just that it might not be best for what some people want to do with it. It's up to you if you want to give it a second shot or create an alternate--I wouldn't call it a big deal, and don't think it's a weakness in the pack.
It's also been mentioned that the sandstone doesn't have a flat top. Just chiming in that I like flat-topped sandstone too!
Anyway, I'm going back to awaiting the next update (no pressure though!), hope this is helpful to you.
@petey5
I'm a bit surprised that no one had mentioned the non-red netherrakk as being an issue before, to be honest. I had anticipated this and, as Huey mentioned, I have a couple of red options available as alternates.
I felt that the red fog in the nether gave it enough of a hellish look. Now, outside of the nether, netherrakk looks as though it can belong in the "overworld". This was intentional and how I prefer it. However, I totally understand where you're coming from which is why I included the alt textures from the start.
The brick is more of an adobe style brick. I'll see about adding a more typical, red masonry style brick.
Don't necessarily agree about the wood, though.
@andrejolicoeur
Thanks! And thanks for providing me with a lot of inspiration. If anyone wants to improve their texturing techniques, I would highly recommend looking very closely at JoliCraft. Especially when trying to imply a high amount of detail in a texture when you're limited by the number of pixels available.
@mrisump
I kinda get what you're saying regarding the gravel but a picture would help clarify it. Either way, I'd be interested in making changes to see how it affects the relationship with the other textures.
I'll address the sandstone thing below (I have questions!)
@Huey
Once upon a time the sides the record player were made to look like wood. It was the same pattern but I was going for a sort of an ornate look that implied (perhaps even functioned like) modern day speakers. Those files are long gone but I think I can revisit the idea fairly easily.
I get the cloth thing and how the current textures limit the flexibility with regards to those blocks' use. But I'm weary about changing them for practical reasons: There's simply not enough space to make alternates! Not ruling it out completely.
Okay. Flat topped sandstone.
Are we talking borders here? Or a smooth transition?
Well, I decided to take the time to take some more pictures!
You have to realize, that I still have more pictures to take; this was taken in sort of a rush, since I had to leave. They should prove my point well enough though.
Taking a look at wool.
The textures to the left are stoneslabs. The textures in the middle, are wool. The textures to the left, are steel blocks.
To me, wool looks like steel. The strong white/black outline, makes it tile horribly, as well as ruin the 'wooly' look of it.
Sandstone tiles well, but the top isn't smooth.
You should be able to recognize the textures. The texture in the middle is sandstone. The tiling isn't a problem at all, but I prefer it with a more 'flat' look (at the top only though), as seen on the stone and/or wool.
And now, more info on my gravel "hate"
This is a sort of 'mixed' image, where I showcase the gravel in a more realistic environment. I'll show them more pointblank later.
As you should be able to see, the gravel looks a bit yellowish, and the 'chunks' of gravel inside the block, looks very square-y, therefor not at all matching the style of the dirt, grass and/or stone.
The blocks in themselves tile fairly well, as you can see. They're just in way too much contrast to the other textures here; except for the water really, but that's not what we're talking about here.
Next to dirt, as mentioned, it simply 'fits' too poorly. It looks like it's one texture pack mixed with another, with a filter applied to give it the same gloom.
Next to stone, it simply has too much saturation. Looks, as stated before, a bit too yellow. And again, it looks like it's a texture pack mix, with the square-y 'chunks', against the smooth lines of the stone. I could compare this to other textures of course, but this is the textures it is usually seen next to.
You could fix the 'fitting problem', by mixing the dirt texture with the stone texture, and then dull it out a bit and make it more of an 'original' texture. This is simply a suggestion, and not the final one-and-only way to fix it.
Ending the post, with a calf?
Now, that's just about (all the posts I've made) the only problems I have with this texture pack. But, there is one thing that boggles my mind.
What would you think this is?
Personally, my best guess would be a calf. But no, it's a sheared sheep. You should make it more obvious that it's a sheep, which can be done by adding the cross textured pattern, which is present in the original Minecraft textures.
Keep up the good work!

Can't wait to see the 1.5 update. I've been refreshing the thread hoping to see it. :sad.gif:
Keep up the great work on this texture pack. I love the moody atmosphere it adds to the game. Something about it reminds me of the feeling I got from playing Braid.

Updated!
Sorry, I got stuck at work. Still am, actually. But I managed to sneak in enough time to update. I haven't had the opportunity to thoroughly test the pack. So please post any issues. Thanks.
This is the best texture pack I have ever used. Period. No lie. I'm completely and totally in love with it. Ten minutes after getting it, all my friends who play MC were on at the same time - all using it - and all of us were just drooling over how awesome everything looks.
Seriously - awesome, awesome, AWESOME. Great job! The fact that this is 16x but looks much higher is just amazing.
Thanks for the great work. This thread is now bookmarked, and I'll be watching your updates closely!
THANKS!
(PS - You'll see that this is the first post I've ever made on this site, and I've been a member for some time.)
Finally you updated the pack! I found myself unable to play Minecraft without this texture pack. Darn you! :tongue.gif:
Anyway, I haven't gotten around to taking a lot of pictures yet. This is mostly because the mod I used to edit in some objects, which I took pictures of, hasn't been updated yet.
I did get two screenshots though, two(/three+) complaints actually.
The achievement window
It's uh. Not edited yet, to match the style of your GUI. Which sucks, since your GUI is win. Now I can't look at my achievements.
This picture also provides a nice view of all the ores. Which, you obviously haven't edited yet. Would it be possible for you to use the Quandary Packs' ore textures, or would you prefer to use your own? I think the coal and iron looks a bit weird, though I have no problem with diamond. Gold is a bit meh.
The achievement pop-up
This doesn't match your style either!
A few other thingies..
I, as mentioned, haven't gotten around to try out your pack update a whole lot. Looking forward to it though.
But, having looked at the terrain.png file, I must say that the thing you've done with sandstone looks nice. And wool also looks a lot better now, though I kind of prefer the default wool (..sorry).
The jukebox looks like a rushed piece of work. My best guess would be that you simply made a gradient mapping on the texture you had already created, which is, well, annoying. I'd like to see you put a bit more work on that, even though I don't think I've ever seen a jukebox in-game..
Also, have you edited the side grass? I was unable to get a good picture of it, but it looks like you made it more flat.
You also still haven't gotten around to make a new plank texture, but that's okay (for now).
And now I feel bad
Coming with all these complaints and rants. I'm gonna give you some positive feedback soon enough, possibly even write a review. I will though keep shooting you down with pictures.

I will be releasing the next version when 1.5 hits (tomorrow?)
But I wanted to give a heads up to all those who've offered their suggestions, so here's the changelog.
[*:2hlj4syt]Record player sides/noteblocks are now wood. Old texture moved to alts.

Thanks.
