Some of you might be wondering "What the hell is velious?" Scars of Velious was the third expansion for the mmorpg Everquest. It allowed you to travel to the new continent of Velious, which was an icy/snow covered landmass. For some reason, I enjoy taking textures from games that I like and putting them into Minecraft, who knows why. I consider Everquest (shoutout to Project 1999) to be my favorite game of all time, and given the previous sentence, it was only a matter of time before I used textures from Everquest in a Minecraft texture Pack.
So I decided to use textures from Velious because I havn't really seen any snow/ice/tundra/cold themed texture packs, and figured it might look cool. Plus, whether they want to acknowledge it or not, everyone deep down wants to be and live like a viking. So a frosty themed pack only makes sense.
Most of the terrain is done, however none of it is final. At this time I dont plan on doing the item.png, I might just alter some one else's so that there are at least 128x items to match the terrain.
Almost forgot. I am using the particle.png from LB Photo Realism as a template, found here viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=136785 and the terrain.png from Realistic HD Texture Pack found here viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=150387. SO anything thats not changed is from these, I do not take credit for them.
To get the grass and the leaves to appear as intended, you have to take the grasscolor.png and the foliagecolor.png from the misc folder and replace the ones in the minecraft.jar with them. You don't have to worry about changing them back if you want to change texture packs or anything, because whenever you use the HD patcher to patch to a different resolution, it restores them to the default ones.

Im not gonna lie, I spent about 5 mins making those with some textures I found. Like I said, nothing is final, the ores will probably change quite a bit.
I would like to see this in 64x if you can do that, please. I'm liking this very much. Maybe for torches you could make it an icicle with a blue flame on top, maybe like this: (General idea. :biggrin.gif:)
No one likes 128x128 or what:)? I guess I've never really used anything above 32x before this, always seemed like a lot of packs above that had tiling problems.
Personally, I prefer 64x. My computer can handle 128x, but 64x seems the best balance between authenticity and performance. It looks great without slowing framerate.

I was always afraid to use anything above 16x for awhile, because people always talked about performance problems. But 32x, 64x, 128, 256x all run fine on my $400 POS laptop, go figure.

This pack requires the use of Xau's HD patcher, found here: viewtopic.php?t=46173

Yeah... The ores look kinda tiny to me... And a little plain... But they are still awesome!

LOVE THIS!! (and you)
And, if you could make the char.png a grimy viking, that'd be awesome :biggrin.gif:

I think they stand out a little too much, just my thoughts though. The rest of the texturepack looks great though :smile.gif:
