Some people might know this already, a easy way to install HD texture packs. But I simply made this post to help out some friend having problems installing them, and I think this would be the right place to post this?
This is a way to install HD texture packs for those who can't browse from the HD Texture Fix and find AppData folder, and can only find it by searching for it. I have this same problem myself, I can't find the AppData folder when browsing from HD Texture Fix program.
Installing:
Step 1.
First of, you need to find a nice texture pack you like. I would recommend 64x as highest, but its up to you. I really enjoyed Misa's Realistic Pack which can be found here: viewtopic.php?t=73861
Step 2.
Now for the easy thing. Go to Start (on Windows) and in the search field, insert this: %AppData% and that will open the AppData folder.
Step 3.
The next thing you want to to, is to go to the Minecraft folder, and delete the bin folder and texture pack folder. Then start Minecraft and install a clean version, once done, close minecraft.
Step 4.
For the next step, you will need go to the AppData folder again. Then go: AppData/.minecraft/bin/ and open up the minecraft.jar with WinRaR (Download: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm).
Step 5.
Once you have opened the minecraft.jar in WinRar, you just let it be open. The next you do, is to open the texture pack you downloaded in WinRar.
Step 6.
Now you have the minecraft.jar folder and the texture pack folder opened up in WinRar. Now you chose ALL files from the texture pack, and drag and replace the files in the minecraft.jar. After that is done, you can close them both down. Note: Do NOT start Minecraft yet!
Step 7.
Now you need to install the HD Texture Pack Fix, which can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=46173. Once that is installed, you run it and click on the checkbox for texture pack (do not browse, just check it) and remember to chose the bit the texture pack is (16x, 32x, 64x, 128x or 256x), and all the other if they aren't already. Click patch.
Step 8.
When the patch is complete, close the HDPatcher down, and you can play the game with your new texturepack working.
Or you could put the texture pack in your texture packs folder, run the patcher, select the texture pack you want to use, click patch and....
Congratulations, you just patched your texture pack! :biggrin.gif:
Just thought you might want to know. Seems a little easier than your method.
Or you could: select default minecraft texture pack, put the wanted texture pack in your texture packs folder, run the patcher, select the texture pack you want to use, click patch and....

I understand you can't find the appdata folder.. but that is because you need to turn on the ability to see hidden files and folders.
edit: and you don't have to put the pack into the texturepacks folder to use the patcher..you can store it anywhere.
