yeah i keep it compatible and its worked fine till 1.6.6
There is no problem with the patcher and minecraft 1.6.6 so it's likely that your .jar got screwed up somewhere along the line (loaded MC before patching after update 1.6.6?).
I've already tested a handful of texture packs since update 1.6.6 and am experiencing no problems, both on my existing install and a fresh install.
I honestly don't know why it's not working for you if you have done everything right.
The best I can suggest is a fresh install at this point. From the way it sounds, you have done everything correctly.
If you are going to reinstall, do so in the following order:
X. Delete the .minecraft folder (backup saves and texture packs first, if you want)
1. Download Minecraft.exe
2. Run Minecraft.exe and allow the game to patch to the latest version (1.6.6)
3. Close Minecraft
4. Run MCPatcher
5. Manually copy/cut and paste the texture pack zip file into the texture packs folder in the .minecraft folder
6. Play
If a fresh install doesn't work, then you likely have a bigger problem (e.g. Java).
EDIT: Just tested the above steps on a fresh install with John Smith's texture pack and it is working as intended.

Ive had this problem before, and I remember that reinstalling the game never helped.
I seem to have this problem every time there's a new patcher, and I eventually figure out how to make it work, but I never remember how I did it the next time it happens

Have you moved your .minecraft folder or edited the minecraft.jar file?
If not, or you don't know, I would suggest reinstalling Minecraft (get a fresh minecraft.jar) since it only takes a few minutes anyways. If you do decide to completely reinstall, don't forget to backup your 'saves' and 'texture packs' folders :wink.gif:
i Tryed doing a fresh install and it didnt work :sad.gif: Please Help... I can't update
Gah. I'm still having this problem, but seeing as no one answered me with a real response I'd figured I'd post it again, even though I have problems with whiny babies on the forums so I'm stuck here being a hypocrite.
I've started with a new .jar, patched with the HDPatcher, (At this point all HD textures work perfectly), and then I install the newest ModLoader.
After I install the newest Modloader, I go into the game and everything looks as if the patch never happened (i.e. fire on Gold Blocks, Water is all null textures ect.) Everyone else that has responded to me has stated that their Modloader works perfectly with the latest HDPatcher, but still I have this nagging problem.
This only started after the 1.6.5 update. Before that everything went smoothly.
Thanks for the replies and sorry if this comes off as naggy.
EDIT: Well I'll be damned if I'm dumb. So obviously the patch must be applied after Modloader's installation because of some file overwriting. Now I've been using TFC Mod Manager to do installations, which is perfectly fine. The problem is that the Patcher refuses to patch minecraft.jar, and overwrite itself, but it's perfectly content to use one of the backup .jars. Is there any way possible to force the Patcher to patch the .jar with Modloader already in it?

Put the class files into the minecraft.jar first, and then patch...
There are instructions on the ModLoader thread but here's what to do:
Find the minecraft.jar in %appdata%/.minecraft/bin
Select open with... (If you don't have a program like 7zip, winrar, .etc download 7zip. If 7zip fails to open it download winrar.)
Plop the modloader files in.
Plop the other mod files in.
Plop the patch onto the game.
Voila, it works!

Did all that, and of course it worked like a charm...until I tried to install any mods, and then it reverted back to an unpatched state. I should probably forego the mod manager and use the Patcher's built in one now?

What mods are you installing? Can you copy in the log from MCPatcher?
The key part is to install MCPatcher after installing ModLoader and then install the remaining mods.
At this point some mods may conflict with MCPatcher. I do know that OptiFog conflicts with MCPatcher due to the se.class file.
and if i shut it off i get a black screen
With what texture pack? (is it updated/still compatible?)
If you cannot even play the game with the default texture, it's possible your .jar file is buggered (reinstall MC).
thatsssssss a very nice ssssssignature you have there

Just checked the texture pack
There arent any zip files inside of it
Run Force Update from launcher options then close Minecraft.
Run MCPatcher
Run Minecraft
Still having problems?
Also, what texture pack are you trying to use?
Still nothing
Im using the John Smith texture pack btw
