I feel like MCPatcher's version of BetterGrass is having issues with Modloader. I'm not sure if this has been already reported. The sides of the grass are gray as opposed to green. Same with snow and all other block sides.

MCPatcher doesn't patch into classes anymore, it overwrites them like every other mod. BetterGrass and ModLoader both depend on modifying the block rendering class, so the 2 are incompatible. It's actually pretty f**king stupid and defeats the purpose of having it in patcher format.
I've been trying to download the patcher and it instantly crashes my game when I patch it. It goes from a frozen black screen to a white screen and doesn't not respond. I did this on a fresh minecraft.jar trying multiple times, even deleting my entire .minecraft folder. I am running on a 64 bit Windows 7.
it'd be nice if there was an archive of previous version of this patcher available for download.
The OP contains a link to older versions back to 1.1.6 as well as the full Java source code.

Actually it does patch rather than overwrite. If you need to convince yourself of this, try patching with one of the 2.0 beta versions that were released before 1.5_01 came out. Also if you run MCPatcher from the command line with -loglevel 5, the log will show exactly which segments of Java bytecode it is replacing.
For the record, I have no problem with ModLoader and BetterGrass as long as I apply ModLoader first. What I usually do is copy a fresh minecraft.jar to minecraft-modloader.jar and add the ModLoader classes to that. When patching, choose minecraft-modloader.jar instead of minecraft-1.5_01.jar as the input file using the Browse button. You don't have to do it this way, but it makes it easier to go back to a non-ModLoader version of the game if you have to.
Here's a screenshot with the Elemental Arrows mod and Misa's texture pack:
When an incompatibility between MCPatcher and another mod exists, I can't do much about it unless the source code for the other mod is available, preferably in the form of a patch (diff -Nur) against the latest version of mcp.
I want to play a x256 texture pack but after choosing the game crashes. How can i fix this?

Got the same problem as Tigers_Ghost. I have a clean MC install and I do as it says in the instructions; I run the patcher, patch with MCPatcher 2.0.1 and it works fine... untill I choose a 256x texturepack in "Mods and texture packs". Minecraft just freezes, then I get blackscreen and it crashes and I need to unpatch/repatch to even be able to play at all. 128x works fine btw.

The game crashes with an out of memory error when I switch to a 256x texture pack, but other packs work fine.
A limitation of 32-bit OSes, but there are things you can try:
In the options panel, decrease the Java heap size to 768. You may also try increasing it.
Disable the texture cache. This will make switching packs slower, but it uses less memory.
If you are running a 64-bit OS, download the 64-bit version of Java. For Windows it is available here.. The first few lines of the patcher log tell you what version of Java you are running.

you can just patch over the same minecraft.jar. if you have mods installed, you'll have to re-install them after you patch it
After downlowding this Minecraft refuses to open properly. I play in-browser due to crappy video card, and now when I try to play it shows a black screen and does not come on. I don't have any mods installed. Any help?

I don't think this patcher works with the browser version, you need the client version

Hello. Can you tell me moar? lol. the new items in Balkons weapon mod have weird textures when I patch and use a custom texturepack and i noticed you had the arrow mod. so i was thinking your method might help solve my problem?

Don't know if this was mentioned before, but the patcher makes SMP really weird. I can't place/remove blocks at all, and I think it's just Hamachi servers. Any fixes?
Happens on regular SMP servers too. Can't open doors, place/delete blocks, etc
So I finally got this working after like five reinstalls, discovered it was incompatible with nandonalts mods (@#$%!), cleaned my .jar again, played the game for a bit, put some mods in: SPC, TMI, Shelf, Randomobs, GUIAPI, and Fireworks. No black screen yet. Played some more.
Then, i put a pile of zips into the texturepacks folder, now whenever i click the Mods and Texture Packs button in minecraft the screen goes black. It isnt the normal black screen because its at a different point. i CAN play minecraft, just can't use texturepacks. rats.
Anyone got any ideas?
EDIT: i fixed my own problem. Two of the zips had something wrong with them : Bloodlust and HDCraft 16x. Now my texture packs are working. But, from this i can infer that a bad zip will cause crashing and not just grey icons. Although I know that I can get grey icons, they work fine, so its not just a case of that.
I have found out, when using the patcher makes some of my blocks go crazy i.e: pumpkin has water corner and lava face, and netherrack is old water, then moving lava is a still animation...
