You misunderstood me. I meant, I opened the patcher, clicked patch, placed the texturepack into the .minecraft/texturepacks folder, and ran minecraft. There were no changes.
My apologies, then. If you followed the instructions correctly, there's no reason for it not to work properly. Like Grugsy, I use a version of Misa's pack (albeit with some custom textures) and it's working just fine for me in 1.4. Her 1.90 release also worked fine for me when I tried it. My texturepack folder also includes 64x Bordercraft, 32x Mixcraft and some other packs and they all worked fine.
One possibility, that I encountered when making my own custom pack - it's possible that your subfolders are not in the top level directory in the zip. When I zipped mine up, the folders (like armor, mobs, items etc.) were nested in another folder that had the name of the pack. Once I moved them out of there and directly into the top level (where the aforementioned folder was) it worked fine. I'm sorry that I can't be clearer on that - it's complicated to describe but easy to understand when you see it.
If you have 7Zip or another utility for .jar and .zip files, right click on the texture pack and select "Open Archive". You should see several folders (armor, at, items etc) and a few loose files. If all you see is a single folder that says "Misa190" or similar, that's the problem. Move the files in that folder up to the root folder of the archive. I hope that helps.

Crud. I'm a bit of an idiot, so I still don't understand how to use the texture packs in this new version. Whatever happened to the browse files option for textures?
If someone could please try to explain the steps in more detail it would be much appreciated. A video would be even better.
Edit: More specifically, whenever I go into minecraft and try to click open texture pack folder, it doesn't do anything.

You don't need it anymore. The default textures are no longer replaced. The new patcher allows you to select from any texture packs you have in your texture pack folder. Run the patcher, then once you are in the game, click on "Open Texture Pack Folder" under Mods & Texture Packs. The folder will be empty, of course. Drag and drop (or copy/paste) the .zip of each texture pack you wish to have available for the game. Then, close the folder, select the pack you wish to use from the list and click done. Now, when you play, you'll have the new textures.
It's really that simple. I knew NOTHING about this stuff even two months ago, so if I can figure it out, anyone can. :smile.gif:

That really does help, but like I said when I try to click "open texture pack folder" a folder doesn't appear.
Absolutely nothing happens.
do a search for %appdata% go to roaming/.minecraft/texturepacks and put them in there..then try the in game menu
if you are on a mac...i can't help...lol
edit: on a side note... someone really needs to STICKY this thread.
Im sorry, I know this is a stupid question, but Im having a stupid moment.
How do I use this?
From my understanding this fixes HD texturepacks (And also evadently is the only way to get Better Grass now?)
So Ive downloaded it and opened it. But when I put a texturepack in the input place and it keeps giveing me an error.
Am I supposed to upload the zip folder of the texture pack?
Im sorry about this stupid question xP
just open and click patch..don't put anything in it... put packs in the .minecraft/texturepacks folder and choose them in game

wtf is this, a .jar file?? i was expecting .exe... i click on it(and double click) all it does is open the file(no im not an idiot) i could install any other mod on this website in 20 sec, this has got me stumped, could it be that im on lynux, though i can run the last patcher through wine just fine. that being said, i was just bored. i dont even need this since i only use one pack. guess its back to the old.

The jar file needs to be opened with java, not Archive Manager or anything like that. In KDE, right-click on the .jar, choose Open with... and if there isn't an option for Java, type the command java -jar. I don't use Gnome much, but it probably has something similar. Or you can run it from a terminal: java -jar ~/Download/mcpatcher-2.0.0-beta3.jar

hey
i have a problem. when i try to patch, i get always this error:

Restoring original minecraft.jar due to previous error
This is the same "getResourceAsStream" problem that occasionally happens with /font/default.png or (in the old patcher) /newcode/bk.class. Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce it consistently nor do I have any idea why it happens. It's even more baffling in your case because the MCPatcherUtils.class file would have to be there or else it wouldn't have gotten as far as it did. The patcher uses this same class internally and so it wouldn't even start if it were really missing.
I'll keep investigating, but this one honestly has me stumped. If you manage to get it working, please let me know what you did, and maybe that will help me figure out a fix.

I would love it if you offer some option like "32bit / 64bit" and choose how much ram should be used, can't start with the new patcher, as I run out of memory.
Your old patcher already did something like this wis min 512 and max 1024 / 2048 (don't remember exactly), there I had no problems.
For now I just installed the texture pack manually, will you bring back the option to let the patcher install the texture pack?
The old patcher did "if 32-bit OS and selected texture pack >= 256, use less memory". It wasn't a very good workaround because it only worked when launching the game from the patcher. The game would still fail when launched normally, making it useless for multiplayer. This is confusing and if you look in the old patcher thread, you'll see several complaints about it.
By design, the new patcher doesn't know or care what texture pack you choose, and I don't have any plans to change that, sorry. I could add an option somewhere to specify the Java heap size, but again, it wouldn't work with the normal Minecraft launcher. I think a 64-bit JVM is going to be a de facto requirement for large texture packs in the future.

I don't know if it has been reported, but it seems that Beta 3 breaks GLSL shaders mod.
When I patch with Beta 3, GLSL shaders make the game crashes, while it works fine with Beta 1.
Great mod. I used to create a different minecraft.jar file for each of my various textures I use for my various worlds. Now I don't have to (at least not to switch between textures).
One suggestion though that isn't really a big deal but thought I would bring it up. I noticed that if you don't have your minecraft.jar file in the usual locations (i.e. you are using Minecraft Portable) then the patcher will not see the minecraft.jar file and close automatically telling you to make sure it is properly installed. This makes sense of course but it would be helpful if it didn't automatically close and allowed you to select the location of your minecraft.jar file.
Of course this is not a big deal and the workaround is quite simple (just install normally, patch normally and copy modified minecraft.jar to your Minecraft Portable location). Also, I'm sure this suggestion will only prove useful to a small handful of people so no need to waste too much time on it unless it's a simple fix and doesn't make it more confusing to those who don't use Minecraft Portable.
I can't get this to work with Misa190, I need clearer instructions on how to use it. So far I installed Misa's like normal than ran the patcher on the .jar. It doesn't seem to work... Please help.
Edit- I got it working, I really should have read the WHOLE topic before posting... Thanks, great mod!
Can anyone tell me how you work this new Patcher? Ive done it before but with this Im lost, and everytime I put the Texture File where I suppose it's suppose to be it says Error, so where do I put my HD Texture Pack?

With this version, you don't need to put a texture pack anywhere - it can switch freely between all the resolutions ingame. The 'Original' and 'Output' things are for your minecraft.jar to go into. You'll probably just want to keep them as default.
So what are the steps, dumb it down for me lol. Im in my Dumb-ass Phase currently.

1. Start with a clean minecraft.jar.
2. Download the patcher, open it & click "Patch".
3. Put your texture pack zip file in the default texture pack folder (On Windows you can open Minecraft, go to "Mods and Texture Packs" and click "Open texture pack folder" button to find the folder; On OS X, it's in *Your Home Folder*/Library/Application Support/minecraft/texturepacks).
4. Open Minecraft, select your texture pack from the in-game selector.
That's it. =)
