I'm in need of some help from all of you. I'm getting back into the game after a long break and am still learning the "new" launcher style and can't figure out how I would install mcpatcher with a multimc instance. Would love some help and I'm sorry if I didn't explain my question well enough as I have a tendency of doing that...
Hellew! I think I mis-used McPatcher in a completely weird way 'cause I KNOW that I did something wrong, after I patched 1.8 and 1.8.4 versions (With the texture pack applied when I used the applications menu in the patcher interface) and now I have 2 entirely different version in minecraft.
"1.8Mcpatcher" (Or whatever it should say lel) and "1.8.4Mcpatcher" Both have the Texture I downloaded as main, when I actually just needed it for putting it INTO THE FREAKING "Resource Packs" SECTION ON THE LAUNCHER.
Sorry for being a slight noob, I don't have much experience with patchers. I used it once and it turned out fine, and I messed up on this one.
Could someone tell me what I did wrong and how I can correct this mistake to the original purpose?? Thank you! :L
Can someone help me? (This may be a re-post, and i'm not sure so I apologize in advance) I'm desperate and I still would like to know if anyone has the answer to this?? It feels like months I have had this question lol

You don't install resource/texture packs with MCPatcher. MCPatcher is for adding capabilities for resource packs to take advantage of in order to extend the reach and capabilities of resource packs. If you want to install a resource pack, open Minecraft, go to Options, click the button (labeled "Resource Packs..." by default) that opens up the resource pack selection menu, and then click the "Open resource pack folder". This should open the folder in which you would place your resource packs that you download.
So, for instance, if you were to download Pixel Perfection (as an example), you would receive a .zip file containing its textures. You would put the .zip file into the folder opened by the above-mentioned method. There is normally no need to extract anything, so don't worry. You're done. Your resource pack is installed, you just need to activate it in-game. You don't need MCPatcher for it to run. However, the resource pack does also use MCPatcher features for greater aesthetic appeal, so patching with MCPatcher would go well with this.
Download MCPatcher, run it, choose the version of MC you wish to patch, and click patch when it's done loading. Restart your Minecraft launcher, and select the new profile labeled "MCPatcher". Once the game is loaded, if you haven't done so already, go into options > Resource Packs... and make sure the resource pack you want to be active is on the right side (assuming you're using MC 1.7 or higher). Then click "Done", and you're all set to play.
Is minecraftdl a legitimate site? It seems it has been up for a long time, though it appears as an early result when googling MC patcher. Their version of this is named Minecraft_166 (which I found suspicious enough, as it's a break from naming tradition of versions of this program), but I also got a warning from Avira for a Crypt.XPACK.gen.
If that site makes a habit of infesting mods and tools, how the hell are they still around as a top google result?

No, they're one of the oldest content theft sites. As to why they're the top result on Google, it's because they know how to game a system that is utterly apathetic about what it promotes unless someone complains. I suggest reporting it as a badware site via https://www.google.com/safebrowsing/report_badware/ Give as much information as you can, including the fact that their 'content' is all pirated click-bait. You can find other ways to combat sites like these on http://stopmodreposts.org . The more the community gets together to combat these sites the more likely we are to see an end to them. If this bothers you, please do your part in combating them.
@Alvoria - Reported! I do hope they get around to either delisting them, or at least knocking them off the first page. There has been a whole topic about this apparently.

I notice you updated the title with 1.8.7 (good to know the currentrelease is still compatible) but have not updated the content below "Notes and Recent Changes:" from where it says 1.8.4 still -- might want to do that just to reduce confusion. Thanks for all your efforts, truly it is much appreciated.

It's fairly simple actually, just follow these steps:
1. Use the DEFAULT Minecraft launcher to run the desired version before patching and close the launcher before opening MCPatcher
2. Patch the desired version of Minecraft with MCPatcher
3. Use Killjoy1221's MCPatcher Repackager tool to create a file that MultiMC can recognize (follow the steps detailed in the instructions section)
4. Open MultiMC
5. Create a new instance of the desired Minecraft version if you haven't already
6. Run the instance once to ensure no errors were made in its creation then close it
7. Right Click on your instance and select the "Edit Instance" menu item
8. In the "Version" section select "Add jar mod" from the "Advanced" portion of the sidebar
9. Select the .jar file created by MCPatcher Repackager
10. Run the instance once to ensure everything works and you are done!
P.S. Feel free to message me with any further questions about this process
So I ran in to an error that apparently a lot of people have. When I start up mc patcher and I go to choose the 1.7.10 version of forge for my game version it doesn't show up. I've tried other forge versions such as 1.6.2 and 1.8 and they show up just fine; it's only 1.7.10 that doesn't appear. Is there any way to fix this? Or is it just a bug in the program? I've looked this error up and all I can find is people just talking about the issue and no answers for it. Any answers/help is greatly appreciated.
I'm using a plugin called RPGitems, and it automatically gives items colored and bolded names when you create the items. I was wondering if there is a way to make CIT work with items that have colored names?

Use the section symbol (\u00a7) with the proper formatting code.

@alvoria
Reported as well. I also included a link to the thread mentioned by FuerDrauka.

Using MCPatcher on old versions should be the same as in the newest version. Start MCPatcher, select the version, and click patch.
Not all of MCPatcher's features are supported in every version of minecraft though.
That's strange. It seems to be failing to download the json files it needs.
I'm not sure how to fix that.

Putting the CENDENT back in transcendent!
By formatting codes do you mean the weird § symbols?
http://hypixel.net/threads/diax-resource-pack.199998/
Yep. Item names and language files still use them.
Putting the CENDENT back in transcendent!
Just curious, does this also support custom textures per block NBT?
No.

Why wont MCpatcher recognize 1.7.10 forge?
