Hey I have a problem, the patcher works fine until I try to use a custom texture pack (I.e one I've dl'd then unzipped to edit then re-zipped) does anyone know why this is ? all other texture packs I've dl'd and not altered work fine, just the ones I have unzipped then re-zipped (even if I don't alter anything in between).
Sounds like your zipping the folder, this is the wrong method, the game unzips it to get to the textures and all it finds is a folder with a weird name, and it gets confused so it does nothing.
what you need to do is select all the files inside the folder and zip those, it should make something named "Archive.zip" rename this and it should work.
Let me know if this helps.
THANK YOU!!!!
I didn't quite understand that it's the files that go in the .zip, not the folder containing the files. Worked perfectly after that!
Hello when i download this mcpatcher it only opens in a foldier is there anyway to fix this without using jarfix?
If it's doing that, then there is a problem with your OS. Why would you NOT want to fix an OS problem? It'll just keep causing trouble. if you can't use the jarfix, I suggest reinstalling Java.

For all the people having trouble downloanding this (it opening folders and saving as a .zip etc) try using explorer to download it, this is what i done after using opera and it worked :smile.gif:
That, or just rename it to .jar.
Quote from Sablam »
I had the same probleme like davwader. In windows you can't change the .zip. You need use an other software like "Unlocker". With this you can rename the "mcpatcher-2.0.0-beta4.zip" in "mcpatcher-2.0.0-beta4.rar".
Thank for this amazing patcher^^
You CAN change it. If you can't view file extensions as part of the file name by default, then Google it; I haven't space to explain here. You won't need extra software just to rename it unless it's already open. Make sure no programs are using it (this includes viewing the contents).

if i rename the zip folder with a .jar at the end it doesnt change -.-
See immediately above.

First of all a question, should all mods be installed after patching a clean .jar?
And second, after adding Optimine(unofficial updated version) everything works fine except that switching texture packs will cause the game to crash and close. The texture pack does get changed and will work fine once you open Minecraft back up though.
Optimine IS NOT compatible with this patcher. Also, any HD fonts included in the texture packs will fail to function while using Optimine. And as to the first question, it depends on the mod. if it's Zombe's Modpack, then install it after. Some mods, however, will not work either way. if it doesn't work as it should, try patching after installing the mods.

How do I use animated water/lava but not use custom water/lava? The only options are Custom Animated, Not Animated (aka just custom by itself), and Default. The old patcher had the option to uncheck Custom Water and Custom Lava, but you can't do that with this new one.
Just select "Default". That'll use Minecraft's normal water/lava.

Thanks so much! It works perfectly. Although, when testing it, it didn't work when I used the 'test minecraft' button... I have to start the client myself. So, not sure what that means.
Keep it up! This is a wonderful product and very useful!
Yeah, the launcher has some special way of running the minecraft.jar or something. Not too much to worry about, though.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but is there a way to type the resolution that you want, as in the old version?
For example, I could type something in that wasn't already in the drop-down menu:
Will this be possible in the new version?
I'm only asking because I'm working on a texture pack that could probably only be used with the patcher, but has a different resolution to the standard ones.
It is not necessary. After patching, the game should automatically detect what resolution the texture pack is. however, I recommend it stays a power of 2 (16x, 32x, 64x etc) as the game will work better with these, and there will be glitches with texture packs of strange resolutions.
Dang, I got ninja'd!
Quote from PandaGoLucky »
I have just gotten the 128 pack to work but 256 still equals instant crash.
Probably because your computer can't handle it. Switching packs is most likely more resource-intensive than even using the pack. It has to unload all the graphics, and load up new ones at the same time. Super high-res packs are risky to start with.

Make sure the pack is the right one I guess. Redownload the texture pack and if that doesnt fix it, try patching a clean minecraft.jar.
I am having exactly the same issue. My best guess is that I am still using the x86 architecture instead of x86_64. The java app might be designed for a 64 bit system. Does anybody think running at 32 bits as opposed to 64 bits could be the source of the problem?
I'm running Window 7 64Bit with Java 64bit.
I patched 1.5_01 and added the [32x] Mixcraft - SemiRealistic texture pack to the textures folder.
32bit vs 64bit OSs will make no difference. It's difficult to work out what the problem is, but I'd guess that it's just glitching. What mods do you have installed?

Minecraft exited with status 1
Basically gets to the MOJANG screen then blackness and exits. What I am doing is this.
1) DL photorealism
2) Delete/Renew .bin
3) Patch Jar with the latest patcher
4) Place the zipped photorealism into the texture pack
5) click on the texture pack in game
No matter how many tries it always breaks the game the moment I do step five, what am I messing up?
Looks like your video card driver or the hardware itself cannot handle the texture pack, from the log. It's reporting an error with an ATI driver, so I suggest you update your drivers if possible.

Restoring original minecraft.jar due to previous error
And the Two items on the front screen cannot be checked. (The HD Textures and HD fonts) I cannot click these to check them off. Please help.
It first gives an error it can't read the original file hash and so cannot tell if it's a clean .jar or not. First thing I think you should do is force an update, so that your files can be redownloaded; there is a corrupt or missing file or two, nothing major. Second, avoid using the Optimine mod with this patcher. As I stated above, it does not work with this patcher. It will cause crashes and disable HD fonts entirely.

I ran the patcher, I clicked patch, I put all my texture pack zips into the texturepack folder, ran minecraft by click "test minecraft" aaaand... only the 16x ones work. Choosing my Gerudoku pack make it default Minecraft.
What did I do wrong?
Make sure the pack is the right one I guess. Redownload the texture pack and if that doesnt fix it, try patching a clean minecraft.jar.

I have NO clue what's up and I can't find the answer on the internet. Can someone please help me?
Force an update, to get a clean minecraft.jar. Also... it will be a conflict with a mod you have installed, I'm not sure which one. If you have multiple mods installed, try putting them in one after the other, and check to make sure the patcher can patch after each one's installed. You'll need to make sure you delete the backup minecraft-1.5_01.jar the patcher creates each time though.

Hello. I'm on a mac OS X version 10.6.7, and this thing ain't workin'. I'm following your instructions to the letter, but when I switch to the texturepack, nothing happens! Help!
maybe its the texture pack? Some texture packs are compressed wrong so they will not work. To fix it, decompress the texture pack, select all the files and folders inside then compress those. You should get "Archive.zip" rename this to the texture pack name and try again.
This. Excellent suggestion. Also, make sure that the texture pack has "terrain.png" among another png file or two and the folders "misc" "terrain" "gui" etc in the root of its zip file. If not, the download may contain several packs, and you'll have to separate them.

First post I know, I just lurk...
So i figured id give this a try, since you can select between regular texture packs and HD ones.
It patches good, when I hit the test button, I can jump between HD packs(with bad lag between loading them). It loads fine and everything works.
I go to the browser, load the game....Here is my issue.
If I have a HD pack loaded and I try to play in browser, it does a main load, then goes black. If i wait long enough I get a white screen.
If I have a defualt/ Non HD pack loaded (with the game patched) I can load and play fine.
Any Ideas?
Ive deleted my .minecraft folder and started fresh and it didnt help.
I would use the minecraft.exe. however after several minuets of playing, it crashes and when I load again all the blocks i mined are back, and I die because im in a wall.
Try using the jar version of the launcher (it works on Windows as well). Online version of Minecraft doesn't take well to mods of any kind..
Tried minecraft.jar or the JAR version. Did the same thing, play for 2 min, then crashed. However it did load the HD textures.
I updated Java by googling Java, Am i missing something?
Run it from a command line (google it to see how to run minecraft from a command line) and post the error log if you can. Running from a command line almost always gives an error log we can use.

But bricks and block of gold are like portal, fire and something else mix. Why is that happening? i followed the steps on how to use the patcher.
Well... sounds like you haven't "used" the patcher properly. Obviously, the game did not get patched for HD textures when you patched it. it is probably a mod conflict, so attempt it again with a clean minecraft.jar.
Aaand I think that's all the questions answered again... the OP really needs to spend about half an hour or so... to do a FAQ. Almost all these questions are the same haha.
Ah well. enjoy your juicy answers and if you need anything explained further, please PM me instead of choking up this thread.
And yes, I have temporarily decided to be Tech Support for this patcher since nobody else is willing. Still, we DO need a FAQ.
For about the fourth time, and as stated in the OP, this works with just about all operating systems. So, yes. At least have the courtesy to look through the thread please. it's taxing to be answering the same question many times over.
For future reference, it's because the patcher can't deal with all your mods.
hmmm...his post says nothing about mods..shows nothing to do with mods...and when I helped my brother with it earlier it was with a freshly updated minecraft.
Really important note for Mac users that I just spent all night figuring out. If Safari automatically decompresses your zip files, using the compress option of Mac OS X will make it incompatible with the HD texture fix patch. I do not know why this is. If you uncheck the 'Open "safe" files after downloading' and then download the texture pack, then transfer it directly into the ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/texturepacks folder it should work. (tested with LB realism)
I found this after having tried deleting the minecraft launcher application, the minecraft folder in Application Support and redownloading everything from scratch.
And yes, I just registered to share this word. I've cross posted in the LB realism thread.

Not being intentionally rude; it's simply that if they understand why, they'll ask fewer questions in future. I'm all in favour of a quick and easy answer, but if they don't understand it properly... well, it just gets more annoying for everyone. Eventually.
.. wait... you say a freshly updated MC failed to patch? Odd. Probably a minor corruption of some sort. From looking at the logs, it appears to be that it doesn't take too kindly to the checksum file being missing...

with the changes notch made to the way things render now, you shouldn't need optimine anymore.
Well, depends. Notch HAS made optimizations, but Optimine does still make a difference; especially if your computer is a slow one.
Actually, Optimine should work with this patch (i think), just be sure to install it AFTER the patch. you'll get crashes on switching packs, but once you open up MC again, the switch would be complete. Shouldn't be too much of a bother, really.
i was having that as well, you need to delete, all the version back ups tht are in ur bin folder, so like minecraft-1.<watever version>.jar and then it should work perfectly :biggrin.gif:
I notice a lot of "don't use optimine" in here, but there's a pretty simple way to make it work. Just leave out Optimine's text optimization class [rf.class] when you install it, and it won't be able to cause any issues with fonts. There may be other little crashes hiding somewhere I haven't noticed, I guess.... but I haven't noticed them yet ^^ and I'm relying on Optimine to be able to run fancy smoothly so I don't miss out on my onboard biome grass! So there!
Ah, good. Thankyou, kind sir for working this out. I don't know how Macs work too well, so thankyou for taking the time to work it out yourself :biggrin.gif:
You're more than welcome, my part is relatively easy. But on further testing it doesn't seem that the problem is unique to Macs.
<details many can gloss over>
I copied the LB 128x texture pack in zipped form to a Windows VM. I then tried decompessing it using Explorer's expand all files, then tried recompressed it with 7-zip (but as a .zip, not .7z). Minecraft with HD texture patch again doesn't see it as a valid texture pack.
I then tried Select All inside the uncompressed folder and zipping the files without the containing folder and it worked. I repeated the process in Mac OS X, and if the contained files are selected and compressed without the folder it works.
</detail>
Long story short, the texture pack selection doesn't play nicely with extraneous folders in the zip file, and both Mac and Windows create a container folder on unzipping, so when rezipping you can't just zip the folder that was made previously.
It seems the texturepacks folder behavior is stricter than the old patcher was.
i downloaded the new mcpatcher , but it was a .zip file ... i tried it with jarfix but nothing happened.
i uninstalled my java and reinstalled it and tried it again with jarfix, and again: nothing happened...
what is my prob and how could it be fixed?
thanks!
an issue like this I have been noticing is a winrar issue..tested my theory about that yesterday. uninstalled winrar and installed 7zip..fixed. on the other hand, sometimes it is a browser issue..and the only fix there is to try to download it with a different browser.(haven't seen any complaints with firefox users yet)
with the changes notch made to the way things render now, you shouldn't need optimine anymore.
Uhhm. I do. My question still stands. Although like vexx32 says, it isn't that much of an annoyance having to restart upon changing pack. It's more just if anybody knew a way to apply the old fix to the latest Optimine it'd be a bit more convenient.

I had the same problem that I suspect you had. Safari was automatically decompressing my .zip file. I'd select the decompressed folder and compress it again and put it in my Texture Packs folder. When launching Minecraft and selecting Texture Packs, my Texture Pack was grayed out.
There's two other ways around this problem (in addition to the clever one you posted) which I'll mention so folks don't need to redownload their texture packs:
1. When Safari automatically decompresses the .zip file, it puts the original .zip file in the trash. You can also move that .zip file from the Trash directly to the ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/texturepacks folder.

2. After Safari decompresses the .zip file it creates a folder with the texture packs files in it. My mistake was selecting the folder and compressing it. Instead you need to open the folder, and Select All files within and compress them. This creates an "Archive.zip" file. Rename the Archive part to whatever your texture pack was called. Now move that .zip file to the ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/texturepacks folder.
For future reference, it's because the patcher can't deal with all your mods.
You're saying the patcher is altering classes that other mods you have installed already alter? WELL WHAT KINDA IDIOCY IS THAT? Why can't the patcher just replace those classes and see if it actually affects anything, rather than not even try! Looks like i can't ever use a texture pack correctly again. Thanks! X_x

THANK YOU!!!!
I didn't quite understand that it's the files that go in the .zip, not the folder containing the files. Worked perfectly after that!
That, or just rename it to .jar.
You CAN change it. If you can't view file extensions as part of the file name by default, then Google it; I haven't space to explain here. You won't need extra software just to rename it unless it's already open. Make sure no programs are using it (this includes viewing the contents).
See immediately above.
Just select "Default". That'll use Minecraft's normal water/lava.
Yeah, the launcher has some special way of running the minecraft.jar or something. Not too much to worry about, though.
Probably because your computer can't handle it. Switching packs is most likely more resource-intensive than even using the pack. It has to unload all the graphics, and load up new ones at the same time. Super high-res packs are risky to start with.
32bit vs 64bit OSs will make no difference. It's difficult to work out what the problem is, but I'd guess that it's just glitching. What mods do you have installed?
Looks like your video card driver or the hardware itself cannot handle the texture pack, from the log. It's reporting an error with an ATI driver, so I suggest you update your drivers if possible.
Depends what pack you use. Higher the resolution, the more lag you get.
No, it definitely isn't. Try it without any mods installed.
This. Excellent suggestion. Also, make sure that the texture pack has "terrain.png" among another png file or two and the folders "misc" "terrain" "gui" etc in the root of its zip file. If not, the download may contain several packs, and you'll have to separate them.
Make sure it IS set to "default" for all animations.... That's all that can really be done...
It works the same as it does on any system. if you have trouble, post a specific question. And... Toah? Read his question. He clearly asked "how" which you appear to have missed.
Run it from a command line (google it to see how to run minecraft from a command line) and post the error log if you can. Running from a command line almost always gives an error log we can use.
See the above with this problem.
No, you MUST use the launcher for it to work properly. If you have too much trouble with it, feel free to PM me about it, but be specific about where you encounter trouble and be descriptive.
As stated in the OP, the sidegrass/dirt problem is a TEXTURE PACK ISSUE, not anything to do with this patcher.
Good, spread the word. many people fail to comprehend this or simply do not bother :smile.gif:
Well... sounds like you haven't "used" the patcher properly.

Curse PremiumI found this after having tried deleting the minecraft launcher application, the minecraft folder in Application Support and redownloading everything from scratch.
And yes, I just registered to share this word. I've cross posted in the LB realism thread.
.. wait... you say a freshly updated MC failed to patch? Odd. Probably a minor corruption of some sort. From looking at the logs, it appears to be that it doesn't take too kindly to the checksum file being missing...
Ah, good. Thankyou, kind sir for working this out. I don't know how Macs work too well, so thankyou for taking the time to work it out yourself :biggrin.gif:
Well, depends. Notch HAS made optimizations, but Optimine does still make a difference; especially if your computer is a slow one.
Actually, Optimine should work with this patch (i think), just be sure to install it AFTER the patch. you'll get crashes on switching packs, but once you open up MC again, the switch would be complete. Shouldn't be too much of a bother, really.

i was having that as well, you need to delete, all the version back ups tht are in ur bin folder, so like minecraft-1.<watever version>.jar and then it should work perfectly :biggrin.gif:
I poked a cactus and the cactus poked back.
You're more than welcome, my part is relatively easy. But on further testing it doesn't seem that the problem is unique to Macs.
<details many can gloss over>
I copied the LB 128x texture pack in zipped form to a Windows VM.
</detail>

Curse Premiuman issue like this I have been noticing is a winrar issue..tested my theory about that yesterday. uninstalled winrar and installed 7zip..fixed. on the other hand, sometimes it is a browser issue..and the only fix there is to try to download it with a different browser.(haven't seen any complaints with firefox users yet)

Curse PremiumI had the same problem that I suspect you had.
-OR-
The problem, basically, is how Macs compress files. If you want the technical details, there's a great post explaining them here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=67774
Edit: And now that I'm reading further on in this thread, I see that you explained exactly this later. ^^ Oh well.
