Can you install files that come in a .jar instead of .zip or do I have to wait for the .zip version?

I got a black screen, but when i force update minecraft it goes away but i get the use the patcher noob. PLEASE HELP!
That happened to me, too. I disabled the BetterGlass option and it worked just fine after unpatching then repatching the game. No idea why; maybe it's because this laptop is a rather weak machine.

I'm trying to apply a custom animation to one of the connected textures textures in my 32x32 texture pack. Its the 67th tile, and I've created an animation titled "custom_ctm_67.png" which is located in the "anim" folder. I've also assigned a properties file to that file titled "custom_ctm_67.properties", also located in the "anim" folder, which says
i need help. when i installed mcpatcher, it worked. but when i tried to run it, it said minecraft not found. i am really freaking out. i have like 3 mods i want to install but cant because of this problem. im new to this mod thing sooo.... anyone got any solutions?
Wait, so we have to upgrade our Java, which requires upgrading our OS? Well that's just dandy. So those of us Mac users that don't care for Lion are SOL?

So you started up MCPatcher on a clean install, hit "patch," and ran Minecraft normally and got a black screen?
Can you provide a crash report?

Let’s play good guys against bad guys… Yes. Let’s play that. Are you ready? You’re the bad guy. And when you’re bad, you just run. That’s fine right? Well… Shall we play?

Minecraft is programmed in java. That makes up-to-date java a min system requirement for playing it by default doesn't it?

No, you don't need completely up-to-date Java to run Minecraft, it runs on some old versions.

I know... but it is typically recommended to keep everything up to date. A LOT of new software still runs on Windows XP, but that doesn't mean people should be using it still. Anyway, I was being a smart***. Complaining about having to keep your system software up to date is like complaining about having to change the oil in your car, it's part of owning it....
I need help. i know not the way to start out but this noob needs it. Okay When I try to install Tales of Kingdoms and Minecraft Comes Alive they dont play nice. Both say they need Forge to work. So I tried to have MCpatcher do it but I cant figure it out. Please help.
A little note: To install Forge it said just copy zipped data to .jar file. It will work without MCpatcher. TOK said to install just drag zip file into mods folder in .minecraft easy enough. It worked with Forge. MCA has you do a bit more stuff. You have to put folders in a config folder, mod folder, and the .jar. So i really dont know how to get them to play nice. Again thanks and please help
I just wanted to confirm, if only because after all my digging through old posts, and using Search, it seemed just a little unclear... the "Java Heap Size" option still ~only~ applies to the "Test" client, correct?
I've seen some threads (which weren't remotely clear on the "fact" that this trick only applies to the Test client) claim that it also applies to the real Minecraft client, as well.
I just want to make 100% sure that MCPatcher ~isn't~ able to actually increase the amount of RAM being allocated to Minecraft in the ~real~ client, and does ~not~ increase your FPS in the least, when increasing the Java Heap Size in Options.
I ask, because, again, it's not made exactly clear in some parts of the forum, and I want to make sure I've not missed some secret update to MCPatcher that is now letting you do exactly that. Thanks in advance.
It only applies to the "Test Minecraft" button. You can easily figure it out by pressing F3 in-game.
That's what I thought (especially given that no matter what size I made the Java Heap Size in MCPatcher, my default client always showed me as having 910MB of available RAM). But I wanted to make absolutely sure there wasn't some secret method of boosting my RAM allocation for Minecraft, in MCPatcher.
Looks like I'm stuck with running a command prompt to increase my RAM that way. It's annoying having 6GB of RAM, and having Minecraft only use 1GB. At least I've still got my batch file to work around that limitation.

Ah, I was having the same problem. Thank you!
There's yet more to come!
However, the texture still isn't animating, and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Could anyone help me out here?

I use Minecraft v1.4.5 and a mac
Ah, excellent. That works. A little fast though. How do I use the "duration" tag?

Nevermind. I remembered that there's a tutorial in the OP

Delete %appdata%/.minecraft/bin/minecraft 1-4-5.jar.

Thanks for the heads up.
