Happened to me, and as someone said, turning off better skies or random mobs should help. I just turned off skies and I could play.
A pixel is a pixel. You can't go smaller than that. In order to get an HD pack you'd have to download a new one that's 32x. You can't make a 32x out of a 16x without going through each part of the pack by hand and re-creating the textures.

I think something is wrong with the patcher, i've patched it about 5 times now, and I'm still getting fire/portal block glitches. I know it's not the pack I'm using because I tried a different HD pack as well. HELP!?

Oh, so the game just scales it down to fit then? Is it possible to go beyong 256x? Don't plan on it if I can.. haha.
What MCPatcher version are you using? I had this problem when I used 2.4.3_02, but then I repatched with random mobs disabled and it worked. When 2.4.3_03 came out, I repatched with random mobs enabled again, and it worked!

I'm using the current version, and I'm not using biome-specific mobs as far as I'm aware.
I'm having some trouble getting height/biome based Randomobs to work. Whenever I add in the .properties file it seems to just default to using the default skin only. I get the feeling I'm doing something terribly wrong with my .properties, could someone take a look at them?
Properties files seem to be ok, can't find any fatal errors in the code ... maybe it's a more basic problem: Are you using the latest patcher ?
There is a bug causing the biome specific skins feature always choosing skin1 on first world load in 2.4.3_02, but this was fixed in 2.4.3_03, so make sure to grab the newest version.
If this doesn't fix the problem, I would remove minHeight.X=0 and maxHeight.X=255 from zombie.properties. If you delete these two lines, the specified skins are automatically used from height 0 to 255. Hope this helps

It's working, but not the rule that I want to work . It's doing all the 1-10 skins. I'm 100% sure I'm in a Desert biome (checked with F3) so this is boggling me.
Try a .jar file with at least Custom Colors and Random Mobs installed. Same problem as flohmannjr had. This biome-specific stuff always needs Custom Colors to work properly.
This worked. However it's worrying that it didn't work with HD Textures/Font/BetterSkies/BetterGlass and CTM on. Might want to investigate this Kahr.
e2: It also crashes MC whenever I try to change texture packs.
e3: My .properties file is still a little wonky though. I'm having trouble with the # Goblins, it seems I can't get the height rules to work. Is there any conflicts in having two seperate height based rules?
e4: The biome based goblin rule works though, except it seems to randomly spawn a default zombie skin every once in a while.

So, yes, in Forests, Plains, ... you can find normal Zombies along with Goblins in higher altitudes, this is what the rules say.
I went down to 35 in a cave and spawned zombies, but they were all using the 1-4 variations, same for going above 85. Tried it in a forest biome.
If anyone wants to test my stuff out, here's a link. I would be forever grateful to whoever can help fix this height issue.
@Kahr: this version of the patcher seems to be using a lot more resources when starting up and changing packs than previous builds prior to 1.4. Also, it's a lot more demanding on ram usage when in game. (optifine gives the same results.) When running the game from a .bat with 4gig allocated (half my ram) it's constantly spamming the console with "could not keep up" messages. That didn't happen very often except during initial game loading prior to 1.4.
I first thought this was an issue with a mod since they are extreme resource hogs, (better world gen 3 and big trees) but I tried it with just the patcher installed to the same results. Hopefully it's a small conflict that's bogging it down and an easy fix.../fingers crossed
edit: also, the wiki says 1.5 is supposed to add HD texture support.... wonder if they are serious.

@Kahr Hey! Thanks for updating this to 1.4.2. I am having a small hiccup with the connected textures/Better Glass.
I tried this with ModLoader and Rei's Minimap (loaded both via MCPatcher and manually patching) and glass was still individual blocks with no transparency, even on default textures. I then tried just patching with MCPatcher by itself and it still doesn't work. I don't want to say that the installer is goofed but I have never had a problem before this update. Any hints?
Might a make a suggestion for this amazing program if you have time to try and add this?
The ability to have custom version of the parts of a mob that are derivative: Blaze fire, Skeleton bows, Zombie pigman swords, etc.
So like my bow could be a magic staff but the skeletons would have actual bows, in case you didn't get what I meant.

I am attempting to install minecraftforge-universal-6.0.1.350 along with some default stuff.
EVERYTHING I have checked is:

Any idea what's causing this? (Sorry if it's something really obvious. For extra information, I removed the META-INF folder from minecraftforge since all guides say to remove it after copying over files. Forge works PERFECTLY fine when I do it without MCPatcher, but I was hoping to use HD Textures with the Portal Gun Mod. I've been using the mod (1.4.2) for a while, but on Default. I've tried both WITH and WITHOUT the META-INF folder, so I have absolutely no idea if that had anything to do with it)More information: I tried unchecking everything and adding them one at a time.
I have everything except Custom Colors checked. When I add Custom Colors, I"m not sure if it's either too much data, or if there's a conflict between Custom Colors and Forge.
Since this one doesn't have any height restrictions, it will spawn 1-4 anywhere in any of these biomes. Rules 3 and 4 will never be checked except in biomes not listed in rule 1.
@Kahr: this version of the patcher seems to be using a lot more resources when starting up and changing packs than previous builds prior to 1.4. Also, it's a lot more demanding on ram usage when in game.
I really haven't changed anything recently that would significantly affect the resource usage. All I can recommend is to use 64-bit Java wherever possible.
edit: also, the wiki says 1.5 is supposed to add HD texture support.... wonder if they are serious.
Long overdue, but I'll believe it when I see it. Not looking forward to reverse engineering their changes to make the other patcher features work again though.
I tried this with ModLoader and Rei's Minimap (loaded both via MCPatcher and manually patching) and glass was still individual blocks with no transparency, even on default textures.
MCPatcher doesn't include any textures, that's the job of the texture pack author. Unless you use a texture pack that takes advantage of the additional features, you won't see any difference. Think of MCPatcher as a Mod API for texture packs.
Same problem as with all the 1.4-snapshots: After patching the game the first time and launching it, the screen goes black and nothing happens. After replacing the minecraft.jar with a new one and patching it again, it works. That's crazy !
I still can't reproduce this problem at all on any OS with any version of Java. I would need to see both patcher logs and probably the minecraft.jars produced by both runs and go through them byte by byte to make any headway.
My virus scan deletes this before the download finishes, claiming its a Trojan. solutions?
I forgot to submit 2.4.3_03 to Symantec for whitelisting, but I did submit 2.4.3_02. Would you mind downloading " target="" data-ensure-absolute>that version as a test and seeing if it gets deleted too? If I had confirmation that the whitelisting did any good, I'd be more inclined to keep up with it.

Get the latest patcher version, which fixes this exact error.
Don't use MCPatcher's Random Mobs with Optifine. It won't make the mobs twice as random. Uncheck everything but Better Skies if you want to use Optifine + MCPatcher.
Trying to use CTM's features on Mod blocks seems to be leading to a dead end, and that sucks. I managed to use the patcher to animate some of the mod items with minimal trouble, and I'm pretty sure I know what let me accomplish it.
Making the items, I had to have a source texture (same as CTM + Blocks), and I also had to designate a destination .png and coordinates. (which I couldn't find for CTM). How would I fix my properties file so it works? Right now it's not doing anything ingame...
I switched to a new texture pack, and every time I try to use it, my game crashes. The maker of the texture pack says it cant be the texture pack that is crashing it, because they dont change any code, but that is the only thing that has changed, so I dont know. Your connected textures is conflicting with a block from one of your mods. Repatch it without connected textures and you shouldn't have a problem. You cannot have HD textures with buildcraft, FYI (just incase you ever get buildcraft).
A pixel is a pixel. You can't go smaller than that. In order to get an HD pack you'd have to download a new one that's 32x. You can't make a 32x out of a 16x without going through each part of the pack by hand and re-creating the textures.

Curse PremiumYour image editor should have a resize option. If you want to go from 16x16 to 32x32, just resize the image file by 200%. Resize by 200% for each step up (64x, 128x, etc).
Oh, so the game just scales it down to fit then? Is it possible to go beyong 256x? Don't plan on it if I can.. haha.

What MCPatcher version are you using? I had this problem when I used 2.4.3_02, but then I repatched with random mobs disabled and it worked. When 2.4.3_03 came out, I repatched with random mobs enabled again, and it worked!

Yeah I'm using 2.4.3_03. I went to a Desert biome and attempted to try it out using just one of the biome settings to see if it'd work, but it's still just using the default zombie texture for everything. I'm trying this on a .jar with just Randomobs installed, and it seems to work for mobs without a .properties file.

You need to add the rule if nothing else matches. Try this zombie.properties:

This worked. However it's worrying that it didn't work with HD Textures/Font/BetterSkies/BetterGlass and CTM on. Might want to investigate this Kahr.
e2: It also crashes MC whenever I try to change texture packs.
e3: My .properties file is still a little wonky though. I'm having trouble with the # Goblins, it seems I can't get the height rules to work. Is there any conflicts in having two seperate height based rules?
e4: The biome based goblin rule works though, except it seems to randomly spawn a default zombie skin every once in a while.
I went down to 35 in a cave and spawned zombies, but they were all using the 1-4 variations, same for going above 85. Tried it in a forest biome.
If anyone wants to test my stuff out, here's a link. I would be forever grateful to whoever can help fix this height issue.

Curse PremiumI first thought this was an issue with a mod since they are extreme resource hogs, (better world gen 3 and big trees) but I tried it with just the patcher installed to the same results. Hopefully it's a small conflict that's bogging it down and an easy fix.../fingers crossed
edit: also, the wiki says 1.5 is supposed to add HD texture support.... wonder if they are serious.
I tried this with ModLoader and Rei's Minimap (loaded both via MCPatcher and manually patching) and glass was still individual blocks with no transparency, even on default textures. I then tried just patching with MCPatcher by itself and it still doesn't work. I don't want to say that the installer is goofed but I have never had a problem before this update. Any hints?

So it looks like if there are two rules using height options, neither will work.
The ability to have custom version of the parts of a mob that are derivative: Blaze fire, Skeleton bows, Zombie pigman swords, etc.
So like my bow could be a magic staff but the skeletons would have actual bows, in case you didn't get what I meant.
I am attempting to install minecraftforge-universal-6.0.1.350 along with some default stuff.
EVERYTHING I have checked is:
- minecraftforge-universal-6.0.1.350
- HD Textures
- HD Font
- Random Mobs
- Custom Colors
- Connected Textures
- Better Skies
- Better Glass
Any idea what's causing this? (Sorry if it's something really obvious. For extra information, I removed the META-INF folder from minecraftforge since all guides say to remove it after copying over files. Forge works PERFECTLY fine when I do it without MCPatcher, but I was hoping to use HD Textures with the Portal Gun Mod. I've been using the mod (1.4.2) for a while, but on Default. I've tried both WITH and WITHOUT the META-INF folder, so I have absolutely no idea if that had anything to do with it)More information: I tried unchecking everything and adding them one at a time.I have everything except Custom Colors checked. When I add Custom Colors, I"m not sure if it's either too much data, or if there's a conflict between Custom Colors and Forge.
Remember that it's the first matching rule that wins.
Since this one doesn't have any height restrictions, it will spawn 1-4 anywhere in any of these biomes. Rules 3 and 4 will never be checked except in biomes not listed in rule 1.
I really haven't changed anything recently that would significantly affect the resource usage. All I can recommend is to use 64-bit Java wherever possible.
Long overdue, but I'll believe it when I see it. Not looking forward to reverse engineering their changes to make the other patcher features work again though.
MCPatcher doesn't include any textures, that's the job of the texture pack author. Unless you use a texture pack that takes advantage of the additional features, you won't see any difference. Think of MCPatcher as a Mod API for texture packs.
I still can't reproduce this problem at all on any OS with any version of Java. I would need to see both patcher logs and probably the minecraft.jars produced by both runs and go through them byte by byte to make any headway.
I forgot to submit 2.4.3_03 to Symantec for whitelisting, but I did submit 2.4.3_02. Would you mind downloading " target="" data-ensure-absolute>that version as a test and seeing if it gets deleted too? If I had confirmation that the whitelisting did any good, I'd be more inclined to keep up with it.
Please post the patcher log (use spoiler tags), and, if you could, confirm using Winzip or something similar whether minecraft.jar contains the file com/pclewis/mcpatcher/TexturePackAPI$ChangeHandler.class.
Get the latest patcher version, which fixes this exact error.
Don't use MCPatcher's Random Mobs with Optifine. It won't make the mobs twice as random. Uncheck everything but Better Skies if you want to use Optifine + MCPatcher.

Curse PremiumMaking the items, I had to have a source texture (same as CTM + Blocks), and I also had to designate a destination .png and coordinates. (which I couldn't find for CTM). How would I fix my properties file so it works? Right now it's not doing anything ingame...
