Any ideas? It's a fresh download of Minecraft, on a brand spanking new system. I've opened Minecraft to create all the files etc, and everything seems to be there.
I've had a problem....
I'm running 1.3.1 with the Patcher and TMI, all options are enabled apart from better grass....
Minecraft has crashed!

So, my issue seems to be different from everyone else's here: MC wont even let me select the texture pack that I use, it just reverts to the default. I can force it to load my pack by editing the options, but it doesn't get past the splash screen before it gives me this error:

I require assistance!
I cannot seem to locate the 1.3 patcher. I just downloaded the patcher that is at the top of the thread. follwed all the steps and my pumpkins are lava, netherrack is water and fire is yelling at me to "google it"
any assistance?
Edit: I am using the John Smith V9.4 and/ or Steelfeathers enchanted 1.4
I'm really sorry but i'm not downloading anything my computer says is malicious. (common sense)
I loved your last patcher, it was amazing, and I can't wait until this problem is fixed, and I can use my texture pack (sphax pure BDcraft)
But until then I suppose I'll just have to live with the default or put up with weird grass and fire calling me a noob.
>>> <<< for your last one though.
Not even doing this to pimp my own question about a problem I encountered but, to all those people that are not smart enough to NOT use Norton or any other Symantec product: Download the .jar instead of the .exe. I'm on Windows and I never download the .exe(I did when I encountered my problem just to see if it would fix it, it did not.). Not only that but, stop using Norton! Are we living in 1996?

I really do hate to be THAT kind of a douche, but I manage the texture pack and mod assets for my group of nine people and I use the patcher as my all-in-one for all of it. I even use it to install Optifine but I leave out the conflicting stuff from Optifine because I prefer the patcher's way of doing things.
For the record: The problem occurs on a completely clean install of 1.3.1. Nothing but the options included in the patcher. Even when I deselect everything except the HD Textures I can't access my packs. Packs that I download, I can. The ones I zip myself, I can't. I already tried different compression programs and everything. I figured that with all the Java coding knowledge on this forum someone would know what the hell that error means.
It doesn't sound like you downloaded it from the forum page here. I'm on Win7 x64 and I use the .jar, not the .exe. Go to the front page here and get the 'All other platforms' .jar file and use it.
@sobek999: I know these sound like dumb questions, but starting with the easiest solution first seems best.
Are you zipping your pack in a folder?
Do you have something in the root folder named improperly?
Is one of your files sized improperly? (as in not divisible by 4)
I appreciate your response, Grugsy, and understand the need to ask them(I've worked tech support too). To answer your questions let me say that I've been doing this since Beta 1.3; everything is properly named and sized and I always select the PNGs and folders inside my work directory and make a completely new zip for every change I make, even if it's only pixel clean up on an icon in the items.png.
That's why this problem is so damn vexing... The TP works perfectly in 1.2.5(It's got the 1.3 additions) but once I move that same file into the 1.3.1 TP directory it doesn't work...
Okay so I am using Misa's Texture Pack. It shows everything fine, BUT when it comes to GRASS and WATER, it shows some weird things. Someone please help me by PM me or replying! Thanks!
I cannot seem to locate the 1.3 patcher. I just downloaded the patcher that is at the top of the thread. follwed all the steps and my pumpkins are lava, netherrack is water and fire is yelling at me to "google it"

I am using the same texture pack and I have the same issue. Anybody have a solution to this?
For some reason my water, lava, and some other blocks are messed up, and replaces them with "use the mcpatcher" but i've tried patching it many times with the newest patcher. I'm using the 1.3.1 of dokucraft, and i've tried 1.3.1 of misa's. I've also started with a fresh new minecraft bin.. not sure if i'm doing something wrong or what :/
Could you please give the the Better Skies config and images you're using? I'm not smart enough to understand how it works and get it to look good.
For the better skies, you need to make a new folder inside your terrain folder, and name this new folder sky0 for your default world (other worlds like the aether would get different names, those of which you would have to get from the mod creator). Inside you need a file called skybox. Make the sky pattern you want on the skybox.png remembering that light blue is the daytime sky and dark blue is the night time sky. Once you are done, you need to make a properties file for it (I'm assuming this is where the trouble starts for you). The properties needs:
A source specified as: source=/terrain/sky0/skybox.png (the skybox name should be what ever you named your file as)
A start fade in time (the time that the image from the file starts to become visible) this uses the in game millitary time. A start fade in time of 16:00 would be an in game time of 6:00 PM (a bit early for the sun to go down. You can use single player commands to get a better idea of when you want the image to fade in. startFadeIn= 16:00
An end fade in time (the time at which the skybox image stops fading in, this should be after the sun has completely set) This time between this setting and the fade in setting will determine the realism of your sky. If the time difference is only one minute, then the sky will suddenly appear and look very unrealistic. endFadeIn= 19:00
A end fade out time (this is just like the end fade in time, but does the exact oposite graphicaly and should be specified to start at or shortly after sunrise) endFadeOut= 4:30
A blend method, when you make the sky box texture you should play around with these different settings to see what works best (add seems to give the best resulf for me) See the OP for all of the methods. blend= add
And a rotate indicator, this will determine if the image rotates with the rest of the sky. If it's true then it will rotate, if it's false, then it won't. rotate=true rotate=false
hey guys,
i ran i a problem with the new type of stairs. My birch wooden planks are using a ctm, but this ctm looks horrible for the stairs so i just applied it to the wooden planks. Now, whenever i place a block of wooden planks next to a stair block, they start connecting to each other. I know that there is the connect command but for 'block' the birch wooden planks start connecting to all three other types and for 'tile' its connecting to birch stairs and halfsteps again...any way to stop this? That birch planks JUST connect to birch planks?
The method that you want is pattern in the block file with the ID for the stairs. You also have to specify the meteadata for the slabs (birtch is 126:2) other wise the patcher may think that you mean for all stairs. And be sure to only apply the texture to the faces of the stairs block that you want.
For everyone who is having graphics issues, this sounds like a bug (expect many with 1.3). Either use the default untill they are fixed or revert to 1.2.5 (I haven't even upgraded yet).
@Drake_Lazarus:
forge does not work with MC patcher, that was stated not too long ago in the thread. Try optofine, I belive that works just fine (sphax doesn't need too much from MC patcher anyway, it's a very basic TP).
I'm having a problem with the animating anything thing. I pretty much copied the example text and set up an animation for the first painting, and it's not working? I named everything right, and did everything as said in the example. Help?

So here's a simple fix! Do it! The Minecraft gods will thank you! Just call this before creating the frames.
This will make everything look all pretty. And the JFileChooser will be 1,000,000 times better.
try { UIManager.setLookAndFeel( UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName()); } catch(Exception e){ e.printStackTrace(); }EDIT: This will only work when building against Java 6 or higher, though.
