I have plenty of memory 6GB (tho I use 32bit SO, linux kernel with PAE),
I was playing fine for some hours... (it was raining and 2 ocelots show up, I tamed them, not sure if any relation ...) anyway, now I am getting this error after a few seconds of gameplay:
org.lwjgl.opengl.OpenGLException: Out of memory (1285)

I am using Misa texture pack
a geforce 250 gts 512mb
and launch minecraft with these params (I think the ones that matter are xmx and xms):
If you absolutely want MCPatcher:: For HD Textures or RandomMobs install OptiFine without the "aaw.class" (the mipmaps and fog distance will not be active). For HD fonts install without the "nl.class". For BetterGrass install without "vl.class".
When I do that the ENTIRE game turns into nothing but blocky poop.
On top of that I have been trying to get ModLoader to work with this, I followed the instructions, but the game just crashes straight away still
Also using MC Patcher gives me this:
Which is why I stopped using it compared to Optifine that does not...
edit: if you dont see what I mean, it's a bunch of lines between each block
Mcpatcher messed up my minecraft textures! I had a portal texture pack installed, and on mcpatcher, I pressed "Unpatch" and when I opened minecraft, everything looked messed up! (And it even effects other texture packs!). Please give me some advice, it annoys the heck out of me, and it even effects mods!

Your not supposed to press unpatch unless you want to uninstall McPatcher and everything you patched with it, just click Patch and it should be fine
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Number of remaining buffer elements is 1024, must be at least 16384. Because at most 16384 elements can be returned, a buffer with at least 16384 elements is required, regardless of actual returned element count
I was able to remove all lighting, except these shades that are given to the sides of blocks. I'm just wondering if there's a way for me to remove these shades. The result should be that this entire room is white, excluding the green outline of the box I've made. If this isn't possible currently, I'd recommend making a way to control these shades in future versions.
Also, is it possible to remove the black fade that encircles your view that is removed upon hitting F1?
Note that smooth lighting is turned off in this screenshot

Yes, no MCpatcher needed to remove that.
Change \misc\vignette.png to be fully black.
Downscale it to 1x1 so it's just a black pixel if you want a very very very slight increase in Minecraft performance (especially on bad computers).

Alright you solved one of my issues, so thank you, but to make you aware, I'm not aiming for a performance boost here. Only going for a very particular style here, which requires me to remove as much lighting as possible. Though, looking at things now, I might need these shading effects.

Your best bet would probably be a fullbright hack actually, not a program like this. I would recommend CJB's modpack.
I have an issue..I am using misa's texture pack, and with optifine it all works, but disables a mod or two of mine. I switched to mcpatcher, and now the mycelium is no longer animated. I know the animation file is in the correct place, but the block is only one color, instead of changing colors.
Pistons, torches, xp bottles and whatnot are still animated, but mycelium isn't.
Is this a mcpatcher issue?

Still having a problem.
Everytime I try to install the connected textures mod with this is does not seem to effect my file at all.
Anyone else having this problem?

any tips? (I am considering reviewing/editing/resizing some textures that may be too big?)
thx!

I thought ad.fly was against the rules unless you are releasing your own made mod, not copied, on your own topic....I refuse to click that.
