Any ideas of how to install this thing to a pre moded minecraft jar... That took me forever to make so I don't want to put all of the mods onto the patcher thingy.... I just want to patch it without it deleting all of my mods! Can anyone help?
Rather than installing Mods after McPatcher, install them with it, try taking a look at the installing other mods section
Already tried that, no good.
I got up to adding player api, but then while trying to add SPC Commands and the Player Api SPC Patch, it detected the conflict between the three (of which the conflict was suppose to happen so it would overwrite the files) and refused to patch with those two together, and while trying to manually add SPC and Player API Patch for it through the minecraft, it just gets messed up.
I tried animating some of the textures from railcraft (on MC 1.1, if that matters), namely the high speed booster rails. The animation doesn't happen, it just goes to the default static image. Here's the contents of the properties file I made to go with the texture, which I named custom_hsbr.png. Tried it in anim folder, root folder, even textures (where the railcraft.png is), no dice.
Hmm...Is there anyway to change the default color of sign text? The font I've added to my texture pack has a black border, and I was hoping it'd be possible to change black text to white. I've tinkered with all the color codes, but so far, I can't find anything...
This is weird. I downloaded MCPatcher, Modloader, and Control Pack and attempted to use MCPatcher to patch the two mods into minecraft but... it doesn't patch in Control Pack. :S

What use is an ear that does not hear, or a mouth that does not speak?
Not compatible with optifine? i get this error when with optifine , tmi and sphax as hd texture pack.

---------------------------------EDIT
when i take off optifine it works fine. tmi works fine and sphax too.
MCPatcher is NOT needed for HD textures, HD fonts and BetterGrass, they are included in OptiFine.
Install OptiFine without MCPatcher HD features for best performance.

Are those x and y coordinates correct? They are pixels not tiles. Assuming the tiles are 32x32, try x=128 y=448. Also the .properties file is what needs to be in /anim. The png location doesn't actually matter.
If that doesn't fix it, then the problem may be with how railcraft accesses its textures in the game. If it bypasses the RenderEngine class, then MCPatcher won't know about it and the animation won't work.
The same patcher works with all versions of Minecraft. I try to support older versions of the game -- major releases, not older snapshots that is -- as long as possible, but no guarantees.

When you add Control Pack, be sure to select the CLASSES folder in the window that pops up.

Optifine is not compatible with MCPatcher. They modify the same parts of the game and they'll step on each other no matter what order you do things in.
About the next update. The 12w15a snapshot changed the texture pack-related classes around significantly, so it's taken a while to get something that will work with both the snapshot and the official releases. Almost got it though.
Since you're adding the connected textures, would it be possible to have that work or ores as well? I have a dream of shimmering streams of diamonds across cave walls, and legitimate gold and iron veins!
Been away from the forums for a while. Way too many posts for me to reply to, but I'll try to answer some recent ones.

Thanks Kahr, they were off by a good deal! Now I've got spinning gears to match the ones on Glimmar's vanilla powered rails!

Yell "FALCON CLICK!" as you uninstall Norton and find a less hyperactive security software.
Any idea what's going on? Am I doing something wrong with this or does this feature only work for 1.2.x?

Install forge using the patcher and a clean minecraft.jar.
