When I delete the backup and patch, it patches the game to use water, lava and fire correctly, but a lot of textures are downsized to 16p. I tried various high rez packs, and they all get downsized. The textures I'm concerned with are dry shrub, tall grass, saplings and pumpkin stalks.
This is normal. This is the "native", "vanilla" support Minecraft has with HD texture packs. The patch is solely to address these issues:
- Remove fire animation from brick and gold blocks
- Remove portal animation from pumpkin blocks
- Support for custom water and lava from terrain.pong (Minecraft will normally add in the default water and lava and not load it from terrain.png, strangely -- MCPatcher fixes this)
- Support for custom water, lava, fire and portal animations.
And probably some more... But that's the gist of it.
OK what about the fact that Minecraft 1.8pre will not load when using this Patcher on it. It just sits on a blankscreen
I couldn't get this to work with 1.8 pre-release V2 until i unchecked better grass mod. Something with that mod caused MC to black screen indefinitely after showing the mojang logo for 1 split second. After unchecking better grass and trying again i got in game just fine. So if anyone has that problem try what i did.
wow it looks like HDPatcher isn't needed to support the larger texture packs. in official MC 1.8beta , I didn't need to apply the hdpatcher , I can select ALL the texture packs i used to need hdpatcher to use. ie: 32*32, 64*64,128*128.. Hdpatchewr might still be needed for the custom anbimations and better grass. still have to check that out :wink.gif:
Darn it does display the higher packs but with corruption of the grass blocks, oh well.. re-patched
I believe it does the same effect downgrading your back to pre-release 2 from Full 1.8 I tihnk
It do. I get the message "Outdated Client" when I try to connect to my Official 1.8 beta server. Worked fine on pre-2 yesterday, but sorry... not today :wink.gif:

Yes, it's downgrading to the 1.8 preview. This is because Mojang used the same version number for both preview and final. It's easy enough to fix, see the instructions in blue at the top of the OP.
my original minecraft 1.8 is little bigger and mcpatcher mean it was modded or seomthing ?
i have a fresh install, what is wrong ?
Hey, I hade the same problem :smile.gif: and then I found out the first thing that was said on this topic would fix my problem and it did. Here are the steps:
For those who have been using either of the 1.8 previews: Both previews and the final are version 1.8 as far as the patcher is concerned, so there's a extra step you need to do. If you don't do these steps the furnace crash or other bugs may mysteriously reappear.
Open the .minecraft/bin folder.
Delete or rename minecraft-1.8.jar.
Update the game using the launcher. Use Force Update if you have to in order to be sure you get a clean copy of minecraft.jar. Double-check that it is 1994742 bytes.
Run the patcher. A new minecraft-1.8.jar will be created.
Patch and start the game. Confirm that the title screen says simply "Minecraft 1.8" and not "Minecraft 1.8 Preview" or "Minecraft 1.8 Preview 2 ; )".
Using mcpatcher to install modloader and better grass makes the grass grey?
Will an update /patch be released?

You'll usually find me in the General Off Topic section. Also quote when you reply so I can see!
So it works with the full 1.8? AWESOME NO NEED TO WAIT!

But nobody uses BukkitContrib anymore! It's dead! It causes server errors! And probably incompatible with 1.8 at least. Spout for the win.
