Hey guys, as well as making my own original texture pack, I'm also looking into mixing Misa's with a few other packs to make my own mix pack. I know there are programs that do it, but I don't know the names, and couldn't find anything on google.
Will someone please tell me where to find a program like that?
Also, Is there one where I can mix tilesize? What I mean is that I want the actual ingame blocks to be 64x64, but maybe I want the tools to be 128x128. Would that be possible?
Yeah, but I also heard there is a fully dedicated program that actually makes a .zip or RAR file readable by Minecraft. Anything like that?
I just use 7zip to open/copy into .jar files, though Windows can extract and compress .zip files inherently. Here's what I did:
1) I extracted Misa's 64x pack, as well as the other packs that had textures I liked.
2) I opened the terrain.png of those packs in paint.net, and cut/pasted the tiles I liked into my own terrain.png file.
3) I saved that terrain.png in the extracted folder, zipped it back up with Windows and used the MCpatcher to enable my new custom pack.
It's fairly simple once you've done it.

Does sound simple, I guess I can get started on my own texture pack as well for UTD. One question I have is will I be able to simply resize large images to 32x32? This will be a 32x32 custom pack for my Union, so will I be able to do that? Also, I used HD Texture Fix to patch standard textures to 32x32. Will that PNG work?
UTD was until now, a lobbying thread supporting more modern innovation in minecraft, but I have decided to release my own product line, so a texture pack is my responsibility to the project.
Actually, I had a go at this, I don't really understand, the PNG is just an image, so I cant select individual block or something, so its giving me issues. I don't know if I want to continue on my own as I really don't know much about image creation. Thinking about looking for someone who can do this for UTD.

You can, but some detail is obviously lost in reducing an image size. Depending on the texture, it may be an insignificnat change or it may make it hard to distinguish. You'll have to see.

Good question - I'm not sure if that actually changes the texture sizes on the terrain.png or not. If not, you can use an existing 32x texture pack as a template. In fact, somewhere on this forum is a 32x template with the name of each tile on it.

Paint.net allows you to select a portion of an image and copy or cut and paste it to another. In fact, if both images are the same size, the portion that you copied or cut will be pasted in the same location. This makes it easier to copy textures from one terrain.png to another.
I guess how easy or hard this would be depends on your familiarity with paint.net or Photoshop and image editing and manipulation. I have only the most basic experience with it - not enough to create textures, just enough to collect the ones I like into a pack for my own use. Best of luck with your project.

heres what i suggest you to do (im going to be talking bout photoshop because thats the best and easiest your gonna get).
open up photoshop create a new image make sure its set to 8 bit ( could work in 16 bit and convert it to 8 bit later but thats be a waste of effort)
next you set the resolution to 72 and for 32x 32 you will set the size to 512px time 512px (px = pixels) that will then give you 32 by 32 squares.
now make another new image do all the same but make it 32 by 32 px. this is where you will do all the work after making your textures (1 block at a time either by manually creating it via painting or manipulation of the editing of realistic/real life textures (you can easily go only and type into google stone texture and get many different textures)
after you finish making a texture for a block (lets say stone) you then copy past from the 32 by 32 to the 512 by 512 image (which will be the terrain.png) and you place it in the spot where stone goes. this should be easy if you have snap to grid on under the view drop down.
now youll pretty much use this same idea for everything else that youll create. except i suggest that if your eddting the GUI mobs or armor that you open and resize those to the size you want (i'll explain how to do that if you would like) and use the old image as a reference makes it kinda easy. also you can make each image a different size the terrain.png just sets how big the hd texture patcher sets the images as so technically you could have a 32x32 terrain image and a 16 by 16 items image. while this is true i do know that itll set the items image to 32 x 32 idk if it actually changes it or not tho if it does theres a chance that itll display them kinda blurry but im not sure all depends on exactly what the patcher does to the image when it resizes. also im not sure if it can use a items image that is larger then the terrain. that is something youll have to mess with...
if i missed something or you have other questions feel free to ask me. you can also PM if youd like and i can give you more directions. hope this helps. heres a for trying

btw what is it your doing for UTD? i get that its a texture pack but what exactly are you trying to make?

Products. Products to show people we aren't playing around.... I guess I dropped the ball on that one, however I am looking for 32x32 artists.
products? you DO realize you can't sell Minecraft texture packs yes? if you want to make mods for a game you CAN sell I suggest you take a look at Second Life >.>

did my explanantion help at all? and when im done with the texture pack im heavily working on at the moment i may be able to help you out, but your gonna have to fill me in on stuff a bit. and as to the above comment its your own art work mojang has no copyright over your art work so yes yes you can sell the art work all you want you can not although sell mojangs or anyone else art work.

I'm not going to sell them, its going to be free, its just for people to use. Thats it. I am currently looking for an artist to create one.

Same tool you'd likely use if you were making your own texture pack from scratch.
