Ack! Now I don't know anymore whether I should go for the light or the dark legs!
I agree with him. The transition looks fine with Mr. Thong but completely dissolves and loses its readability when he actually wears clothes and most of it is obscured.
Well, the new mobs look awesome, if slightly disturbing.
Think I may stay away from beaches while using this pack.
Fret not! Even on the beach there will be 6 completely normal and modest zombies wearing partially to mostly civilized clothes. Mr. Thong shouldn't show up too often...
Unless ofcourse you do what I did and spam zombie eggs on the beach in creative mode!
You know you can set the thong zombie skin to only appear in certain biomes, if you desire, using CTM? Maybe he would be more suited to certain biomes rather than others
Yes, yes, that's exactly what I did! He only shows up on the beach. Occasionally.
Honestly, I'd say leave the villager zombies for now until the methods for them are finalised.
You don't want to have to keep messing around with the same texture over and over.
I don't expect them to further improve the way the zombie villagers are implemented.
Anyway, I just want to get them out of the way, since indeed, they would be a simple enough edit.
@ Ur-Quan: I definitely designed the different stone types to go together well, but at the same time contrast with one and other. I also like to make my buildings with contrasting trims!
Anyway, nice work on the castle! Thanks for sharing.
@ Deepblue686: Yeah, I was hoping they would update that. They also haven't fixed the paintings yet, even though they did add a new painting! Clearly, they didn't even test it ingame.
I've been working on this pack for a year and a half, and during that time I put in most of my spare time! I'm not gonna let all that work go down the drain because they messed up on one part!
Wayuki, I know that you are a professional texture artist, and I know you may want to keep your voodoo powers secret, but for 250k dl's could you do a video of yourself texturing a block or mob or anything at all, I would love to see a pro work.
It's not that I mean to keep secrets, but I haven't gotten around to it! I've written tutorials (ages ago) but it takes more time than I have now. Videos are a bit tricky, because it easily takes me 16 hours to do a mob skin.
I was wondering, wayuki, where did you learn your mystical skill with colours?
Not because of texturing work, actually! I actually learned everything I know about color from visiting the Pixel Joint and Pixelation forums, if you can believe that.
Your mobs look amazing, on par (and above) with what we were seeing in commercial game during the golden age of DOS games. But it seems some of your file (the golem for example) are not the default 16x resolution? Does that work even if you don't have MCpatcher installed?
edit: I just tested it and it does! very interesting
I'd say keeping it 16x16 is a much better idea. For me, it has some sort of retro charm that keeps me from using a 32x32 pack or higher, even though some look pretty nice. And sometimes, less detail in the actual texture might mean more detail in the mind, which is what retro games are actually aiming for.
Totally agree, that is the reason why I made a 256x that accentuate the retro pixel look
Oh and... I just HAD to try it:

I already made the zombie using the new format!
Old zombies are easy enough to fix, too. Just expand the texture downwards from 64x32 pixels to 64x64 pixels.

On that note, here's a preview for the zombie villager. This guy wouldn't be caught dead in a thong, and I think we can all be thankful for that.

Retired StaffLooks good-- you've successfully transposed the zombie look onto the villagers.
And thank you for reminding me of Halloween. I'm off to do spooky mobs! *flees the scene of the crime*

However, since double res mobs have always worked fine even in vanilla Minecraft, I decided to do those bigger, to give more more room for detail.
Back when I started, I didn't realize MCPatcher would become as big as it is today. I would have made the entire pack 32x32, had I known that.
Oh well, too late to change now! I only barely have enough time to keep up with this pack, let alone start another one.
Ah see, I wasn't aware of that. Clever move
