Bah, that isn't too much. At least most of that stuff isn't particularly difficult anyway like the logo, 'splosion, splash screen and blur.
The paintings will probably take quite a while but they're fun to do anyways. Just normal pixel art or brush painting if you're doing them by hand, pretty relaxing after doing tiles and mob skins for so long!
Are you kidding? These are some of the hardest parts!
At least with what I hope to be able to pull off.
In other news, I turned 32 today. I'm now in a proper texture format!
I'm glad that it will take a while before the next texture format. I'm sure the added resolution would mainly be used for drawing detailed wrinkles on my RL avatar!
The amount of detail you can get from just 16 pixels is mind blowing. This pack puts mojang to shame.
no. what wayuki does is amazing, but it doesn't put mojang to shame. when you're a company that spends 90% of your time coding games, new and old, with the rest spent on basic functions for living, textures aren't going to be a priority. that's why they made custom textures a part of the game. to make it personal, to make people enjoy the game more, and most importantly, to offload a little of their staggering workload. mojang don't have the time required to put in the work wayuki does on textures. wayuki is amazing, but that's no reason to insult mojang. and i doubt wayuki would want her work to be used as an insult to them. i certainly wouldn't.

I'm going to try not to steer Wayuki's thread off-topic, but just because their game uses programmer art doesn't make it more valuable than it really is. Wayuki's art does put Vanilla to shame. They know it's programmers art, we know it's programmers art. I wouldn't consider it an insult, and besides... the fact Minecraft has gotten as far as it has with programmer art is pretty astounding. It's nothing they should be ashamed of.
Also, Minecraft is insanely profitable, they could have afforded to pay for some artists to rehaul Minecraft. In fact, they did hire an artist(multiple artists now, I think)... and then put him on every project other than Minecraft. I think I can safely say a lot of us were disappointed when Junkboy was hired only to see the next update still use programmer art.

I think Mojang might be hesitant to do a massive overhaul of their ingame art, and rightfully so. The game became successful despite the quirky programmer art, or perhaps even because of it! Why touch the success formula and potentially alienate a large section of the player base?
C418 basically made soundtrack around the idea to make the user think of the environment around them in "Minecraft's block-ish world, which at first glance might seem ugly and pixelated, might actually be full of beauty and life." (C418.org read the whole statement there. :P)
Wayuki has taken enough time just trying to get the basics completed while also trying to keep up with updates (and even then, there are still a few default things like the Blaze)
She doesn't always have enough time to work on this pack as it is.
Adding a x64 version on top of that is just madness.
To be honest, I don't like the way people make simple posts like "make a *resolution* version".
It makes them sound like they have no idea how much work goes into packs like this (or they don't care)
It's also not as simple as raising/lowering the resolution.
When making a pack, you need to know what resolution to work with and to keep consistent with it because not all designs work with every resolution.
For example, Sphax's pack has multiple resolutions. But the design works best at x128 (hence why he calls it the "recommended version")
exactly. i'm pretty sure we all really want a HD version of this pack, but we all know the demands the pack already puts on wayuki's time. IF wayuki ever decides to make a HD version (and i doubt it) she will do it after she's got all the vanilla content down and the next expected update for MC is after quite some time

This is why I wish they did something when Junkboy was hired. Minecraft was pretty big back then, but it wasn't nearly as big as it is now(Xbox version has really opened the doors to a much wider audience). It could have probably afforded to make the change without annoying too many fans/players. Now it's definitely way too late to do it.

I'm glad at least they have made some improvements to the support of custom stuff. To me, community content is at least half of the fun!
Indeed. I really, really like what they have done with Resource packs, especially being able to prioritize them.
yeah, i love that. i only ever use 2 resource packs, wayukian pack and a private edited version of wayukian pack for a server where some items need different textures. the fact that i can prioritize them is great, because i can switch between the two with far less difficulty than before.
It also means that you only have to have your edited textures in your private edited version and thus do not have to duplicate all the textures from Wayuki's pack that don't need to edit yourself. This should make your private edition both smaller and easier to maintain - and easier to tell exactly what is being overridden and what is not.
