Well actually I saw a post somewhere awhile back where it was the pink grid 32x32 with the right size squares that tells you exactly what block should go there. It just makes making texture packs easier, but now I've also figured out how to add a 32x32 grid on GIMP. Anyway, my problem's solved so you can discredit my question.
Okay, which files do I zip up? I'm fairly certain I don't zip up the whole minecraft.jar, and I have edited textures other than the texture file. If I edit a mob, do I take the files out of the mob folder?

NO. Don't click New Thread. Read the rules. I don't give a damn how long or boring they are. If you do not, you will be subject to massive flaming and criticism by yours truly.
i know its a bit offtopic but when you post texture packs and then you update them, how do you make them appear at the front page again?
I assume you mean the first page on the tex pack forums. When you update, the exact millisecond you do the update, the appear on the first page. Then, the next millisecond, they get spammed to death and appear on page 237.

Could a mod please add the specific guidelines for remix packs to the front post and explain all the rules (title formating, permission before posting, no profit unless author allows it, etc.)
The formatting is nice, however it isn't as easy as it should be to browse through texture packs. When I search for [16x], I still get results for other resolutions. I think it would be great if each resolution had its own subforum where it would be so much easier to just browse through texture packs in the resolution you want. I hate having to go through all of them, when I only want 16x.
Excuse me but what do you mean it will be locked if you don't add a screenshot? because I just added two pictures to my thread today but made the thread a little while before that would it still be locked?
I understand the difference between SD and HD packs, however do larger resolutions compromise performance at all? And what is the standard resolution for the default texture (so I can gauge if it's worth upgrading to a higher res)?

Default is 16x16. Not really a resolution, but measured in pixels. Then 32x, 64x and so on.This is the size per block, not total size of the terrain file. I posted a link earlier for the terrains re-sized.

I have absolutely no idea what your first question means, but WIP stands for work in progress.

Pfft, why didn't I just add that stuff to my tutorial? That's brilliant, I hope you don't mind if I link to it.

There is no best texture pack. Art is largely subjective, so it's mostly a personal opinion on what the "best" texture pack is.
