Hey lately ive been having problems with texture packs. I only have one installed -gerudoku. But if i try to add any other texture pack it just goes to a black screen. If i try to re-open minecraft once i click mods& texture packs it goes to a black screen aswell. I have Mo' Creature installed but ive had this problem before it was installed. Also i havent had this problem untill recently. Help is much appreciated
try getting rid of gerudoku (delete it from texture packs in .minecraft folder in %appdata%)
then install other wanted texture pack if it works and you want gerudoku still re-install gerudoku aswell
if it still crashes maybe its because it's not completed or there just a bad download (not virus bad) ;
Ive tried to download a texture pack tried to save it and would'nt show up because it was only 54KB not finished at all if there are than the 100-200KB range there probably fine to use. OR!
you didn't install xau's HD patcherif thats the case
heres the download:
I'd advise getting rid of mods, just temporarily to see if they were the problem. Check for black screen. If that doesn't fix it, take gerodoku out of the texture pack folder. Check again. If that doesn't fix it, delete your .bin folder in your .minecraft folder. This won't delete your saves. Run Minecraft and check again. It should be fixed by now. If you want a 16x texture pack to check compatibility with, theres a link to one in my sig and you can find dozens in the forum.
You're using Xau's to install Gerudoku right?

What do you need to back up? The bin folder can just be re-downloaded by playing Minecraft.

sometimes it fails like what happened to me,
it failed then said cant launch from mainframe.exe so i downloaded it again and it worked:
might not happen to others since my computers weird
I don't know about this 'maineframe.exe'. I've personally deleted my bin folder a few times and I know people who have done the same. There's never been a problem. So don't worry OP

Well i cant Delete gerudoku because its says its being used by another person/program and I dont have minecraft open or any other processes, i even stopped all process except the system one and it still says it is being used...
Edit: i didnt not use the patcher for gerudoku when i installed it i just moved the zip to the folder. could this be the problem?

Alright i was able to delete gerudoku by deleting my bin and replaying but now If i install other texture packs once i drag the file into the folder i get a black screen and the texture pack i tried was NorseCraft (no patcher needed).

Use Xau's patcher to install anything bigger then 16x. If you're switching texture packs use the patcher to "unpatch", and then you can change texture packs.
16x packs = put .zip file in texturepacks folder. Only switch while on default or another 16x
32x and up = Use Xau's patcher. Unpatch before switching

Not -quite- true. 32x packs won't crash minecraft but they will have some animation issues. I run glimmer's steampunk without the patcher all the time. (Along with my own 32x pack that I'm working on.)
Anything larger than 32x will crash minecraft without the patcher.

exactly i used to run 32x32 packs all the time. but for some reason i cant now.
also the mcpatcher worked :biggrin.gif: so thanks for your help guys
I know you solved your problem...but I want to make others perfectly clear....while I don't want to argue with TheFool at all, I will always argue with the point of not using Xau's patcher for every pack. I have been a pack tester and maker for a bit now. Tried, tested, and tested again many times a day.
Here's two screens, both from fresh installs of MC to prove the point of why to use it every time:
First is the 32x32 Glimmar's pack I use on PipeWorld daily (without the patcher..notice the fire and portal?):
Then the 16x16 pack I am converting from Glimm's (notice no custom water or lava):
In both...you see why to use Xau's every time for every new pack you wish to switch to. And to keep posting to people that they shouldn't or don't need to use Xau's every time they switch or use a pack from a fresh install, only furthers the amount of "Why does it crash?" or "Why can't I see?" or "Why is there fire/water/portal textures?"
It only makes since to tell them to use the patcher with every custom pack. Because the only things that really doesn't take the patcher to use correctly, are things like mobs (which don't need sizing and are used directly). Anything and everything done in 32x or above will not look like they are intended to look. Even if you get it to work, it's not supposed to. And won't always work, just cause problems.
I know I'm forgetting stuff, and don't know everything...yet :biggrin.gif: But I do know a fresh download with my crappy connection takes less than 30 seconds, Xau's takes less than ten seconds to use, and making sure that the pack is then selected in the in game mod/pack menu only takes a second. So in less than a minute, why NOT use it every time just to make sure you are seeing the pack as intended?
Or play vanilla with (almost) no worries....
