To be honest, I'm not sure . . . something about the grass is off. Its not "vibrant" enough. I think its a good deal brighter in the game, and thats the biggest detractor. I also think maybe the leaves could be denser?
Also, if you make painting, you HAVE to make a General Kelbesque painting. I just see no alternative!
Well, I thought about making the grass brighter but its a key balance. Crystalis uses what looks like CGA graphics so I had to recolor many things so that they didnt blind people who might not be entirely familiar with Crystalis. The grass in particular uses default grass colors from Minecraft. Ultimately, this has to be a marriage between Crystalis and Minecraft to appease Crystalis fans but not alienate the majority of fans from Minecraft. That being said, I am not entirely opposed to lightening the grass.
Also, the colors of Crystalis look wonderful in a 2 dimensional environment and with all like colors surrounding it. In 3D, such stark colors can be overbearing and at times nauseating from their saturation.
Now about the leaves, when you say denser do you mean not see through at all? or just more black lines? or just a bit more bolstered? I tried to get as close to the shape and feel of the leaves of the Crystalis trees but its hard with the tree model that minecraft has. Thoughts?
The General Kelbesque painting is a definite yes and has been added to the future revisions list. YAY! Thanks!
What I mean by denser . . . is that I see TOO much wood when I looked at the trees. More leafy bulk, be it in the form of extra black lines or whatever, would make that more reasonable. I'm sure you got that pattern somewhere, but its a little sparse, I think. So, less see through (though I am not saying that they be completely opaque, although I think that they would appear to be so in a Crystalis-like world.)
I certainly understand your goal of appealing to non-players of Crystalis first, but being that grass is the most commonly seen block when on the surface . . . it often comprises as much as 80% of the non-sky screen, and in that sense, detracts 80% of the world's Crystalis-y feel! But I digress . . .
One other suggestion I have is to increase how far the grass goes on the sides of dirt blocks. I realized part of what was throwing me was how MUCH dirt I was seeing in your grass pictures. It goes actually much less than the vanilla pack goes, and in this context, I think it would be safe to have it go down at least double what vanilla does.
What about trying to make "growing wheat" look like the tall grassy patches from the game (think the one where you find the statue outside the second town)? There are even patches of brownish grass, for completely grown wheat! Actually, I haven't seen this in game myself, I'm just referring to your pictures here.
I will keep checking back if I think of anything else.

Alright.
I can agree with the denser foliage as you describe. I see where you are coming from on that. I took the pattern from the trees around Crystalis as a guide and made up the pattern for minecraft. Ill experiment a bit more with the tree leaves and see what I get.
As for the grass on the side of the dirt, I opted for less hanging over on the sides for several reasons. Chief among these is the fact that the grass doesnt change with biomes. I put less there to trick the eye into not noticing that it didnt change and just realize that there was green. Also, I dont particularly like as a personal preference a lot of grass hanging over. I feel that it looks a bit messy and that less looks sharper and cleaner. However, I can agree with you that adding some more could be helpful. Ill try out adding some more and see what happens.
The wheat currently uses the Antidote herb and I have no plans to change that. The growing wheat is the Antidote herb that I slowly turned from brown to green and reverse engineered into a growing plant. I also have no plans to change that. Thanks for your feedback on it though!
I look forward to hearing more suggestions! :smile.gif:

Ahh, this makes sense . . . I didn't pick up on this for some reason.
Never fear for the update. I will have the texture pack updated for 1.4 by the end of the day (midnight). Thanks for your patience! Maybe I will include some updates from the planned future stuff. Thanks!
Suggestion for the pigs: The colors will be a little off, but use the boar men outside of the town Brynmaer (second town) as a base. It's the closest to pigs in the game. I'm not sure about cows.
My brother and I have been playing Crystailis for years, and I love the texture pack! To give you an idea see the link below on Pyropunchers server for builds. At 2:40 you will see my brother's (MastaChudd) re-creation of the hero. We are building our own server with several, if not all, of the towns from Crystalis. It will be built with this texture pack. I'll get you pics as we build. Great work so far!!

This is totally awesome! I am so happy that you are creating a server with Crystalis towns! And I'm honored that you want to use my pack! Thanks so much!
This pack tries to marry Crystalis and Minecraft so its not a 100% faithful recreation which makes me sad since the buildings in Crystalis are a specific texture that I haven't included :sad.gif:
As far as the pigs go, the pigmen from the abyss are exactly the pig men from outside Brynmaer and the pigs in the game are actually those pigmen too just adapted to actual pigs as far as I could tell would make sense. I guess I could work on making them more faithful recreations of those pigmen outside Brynmaer.
I haven't played Crystalis, but this is... BITCHIN' EPIC!
10/10 filled with 64 stacks of .
I've played various other NES games. (Spy VS Spy, Kirby's Adventure, M.U.L.E. etc.), and I always love how old-fashioned they look.

Thanks so much for your feedback! I really appreciate your enthusiasm :smile.gif: I havent been updating the pack at all for the past few weeks and Im sorry for that. School snuck up on me and im graduating in 2 weeks. I ts totally crunch time and im stressed to the max trying to get all of my life in order before school ends. I promise that once all this real life stuff blows over, Ill be back to updating this pack.
Thanks for all the support! The website, btw, is still in the works. Ill have a link posted one day.
1.5_02 compatible! Enjoy everybody. Sorry for the slow updates :sad.gif: School is still kicking my ass. Hope to be able to play minecraft and update regularly after this next week here.
I'm waiting for the next update cause im on 1.5 already but i will definatly download this.
One question/point: Right now the interface looks like a plain blue surface, maybe add some darker blue to the sides or so to give it a bit more depth?
Thanks so much for your support! The interfaces are made to reflect the interface within Crystalis as close as possible. I will consider what you say but it is unlikely that I will change it.
