Im working on my own texture pack nothing big, but I keep running into one problem... Transparency. I've tried Gimp2 went on YouTube and watched multiple tutorials. I keep trying and trying but I can't seem to get the alpha channel the way I want. At this point I'm looking for someone who will help/work with me for this project and preferably for future ones, for free and (I guess) as a new friend. I might have made it sound a bit creepy there but I need some help. Thank you to anyone who offers to help.
The alpha channel for minecraft for all blocks except ice (and water*) is either all or none.
If you have anything but a 0 in the alpha value for a pixel then the game will treat it as 100% opaque.
*You have to mod the game to properly edit water. You can change it without modding if you go to 32x but it will be static and there will be other graphical glitches.

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
If you are trying to figure out how to add an alpha channel to an image that doesn't have one to make it transparent:
Right click on the layer, in the layers dialog (Ctrl + L) and there is an option to add an alpha channel.
If it is something else, you will have to be more specific on what you are trying to do.

I usually use Paint.net for any image editing. Choose your color in the color window, set the pencil or paint tool to "override" instead of "blend" and viola.
