Just a quick question. Is there a texture mixing and matching / swaping program out there? I know how to make my own custom textures, the issue is that it takes a good bit of time to do so. So I was wondering if there was a program out there to make it easier. No, not one to change packs, but one to change parts of them; terrain.pngs/armor/items/ect.

Well, it looks like minecraft decided

It is easy to mix and match .pngs from different files. Just unzip the texture packs you want, combine them how you like (ie, taking the terrain.png from one pack, the armor .pngs from another pack and the gui from another pack. Just used which .pngs you want, place them in the correct folders and zip it up again, then drop your custom one into the texture folder.
The hard part comes if you want to say, take some of the textures from one pack, combine them with textures from another pack and use that. Like the the ores from one pack, but the workbench and furnace from another pack. If that is what you are asking, no there isn't an easy way to do that. The closest I've seen is the Painterly custom packs, but that doesn't let you use your own, you just get to pick from a list of options. The only way to combine your own stuff is to do it the hard way. Open up the terrain.pngs in your favorite graphics editor and start carefully copy/pasting.
if you do it in photo shop, and then set your options to display a grid that is 16px (or whatever the size of the textpacks) then turn snap to on, it would be reaaallly reallly easy to change individual textures for a mix'n'match pack.
