The short answer is: I'm not really sure how to solve it. My water is rather....different than most animated water in that by some blessed accident it has alot of **** moving at once on it's surface. Lots of little dark waves and the one bright "wiggly" wave that gives the water it's striped look. It's a nice effect that happened pretty much by mistake.
I have thought about ways to solve this issue without completely breaking water and the solutions I have come up with but haven't tried yet (i dont want to lose my trophy its good for holding soup) are as thus:
a.) I completely redo water and do two versions (never gonna happen)
b.) I rotate each frame of flowing water 90 degrees to the left or right. Making it so the "stripes" now flow/wiggle in the direction that the water is flowing. This will however also make flowing water look completely perpendicular to still water. (depending on how it looks this is likely what I will end up using if its not hideous).
c.) I remove every other frame of flowing water, making it animate twice as fast. Allowing it to subtly look different to still water. However it might be so subtle that it's unnoticeable. (something else I need to test eventually. also a likely solution.)
d.) I take the current still water animation frames and make them wiggle around EVEN HARDER, I'm talking EXTREME WIGGLING, so they look different when water flows but also doesn't break the art style water has. (not as much anyway. this would be the first and easiest thing to try but also the least likely to work properly)
e.) I attempt to add more little waves that flow over the 16px tiles. However this will require me adding lots of frame-by-frame animation which would be way too much work and most likely wouldn't loop right.
Oddly, much like water, still and flowing lava also have the same animation but I don't think it's as noticeable with lava because it moves alot faster than water due to having less frames of animation.

Don't even get me started. Pyro and spy are the easiest classes to kill in the game, in comp AND in pubs, and they keep nerfing the pyro for some reason. Both classes need a buff to their mobility. Backburner + airblast + critflares =/= fixing the class. Spy needs to have quieter default cloak. If I have headphones on I can hear a spy decloak from halfway across the map, no matter what watch he has on. That's ********.

Basically, earlier on this thread he posted his old alpha texture pack because it was similar to mine and we were comparing them. I noticed in his pack large chunks of his grass were orange and red and I wanted in on that.
He generously posted his biome triangle and I saw how he got the effect. So I did something similar to my grass, though not quite as colorful.
I decided to add alot of small gradients with a 'render clouds' sort of pattern to my grass biome.
Trees don't have to worry as much about 'fitting in' next to each other so I simply took the paintbrush tool in my art software and dabbed on some blobs of color. If you look at the tree biome triangle in my zip it actually sort of looks like a splatter painting. Red, orange, yellow, and blue and teal trees.
The effect with editing the grass biome colors looks even nicer if you use the BetterGrass mod.
So do you agree with any of my suggestions? Also, you made me feel really self-conscious when you showed my picture like that... I took another picture of myself hopefully I look more attractive.
I must say, I look devilishly attractive when you view the image in full size. I just wanna plow that dirt if you know what I mean.

When i discovered that water glitch, at first , i thought it was from my jack-ass-ery installing a mod or the mcpatcher. So i looked at Jolicraft to see how he has his water set up. There is only custom_water_still.png. So i rename/deleted custom_water_flowing.png from Zekocraft and even eventually deleted the other custom water. And amazingly enough that fixed it!!

EDIT - I was hoping you would have notice the never-used quiver icon in the screen shots. Zekocraft quiver looks too good to not be used for something.
If you don't, do something about it. The blocks in this game are literally only 16 pixels wide. They are quite easy to edit. I used to combine bits of Frenden's/Painterly/Splixel with other packs back when I wanted something a bit more custom. Then got tired of that and made my own. Nobody said you aren't allowed to edit packs. I'm not going to completely redo half of it because one person doesn't like it. Plus theres now lots of alternate flower designs in the TERRAIN.PNG if you were to take a look.
If a whole bunch of people simultaneously disliked something, or if I hated something myself, then I'd probably change it.
Other than that...
As much as I would like to replace the in-game paintings with some of my own or with bits of art from artiststhatIreallylike the problem with that is that it changes how to people see the same image.
Say my friend on an smp server goes "put the big blue skull painting in this room" but that painting is now a butt because I edited it. Each time I go in the room, that butt will be there. Staring at me with its one filthy eye. My god, it would be horrible. In short, since paintings are things multiple people need to see, it's important that they are synced.
If Notch ever adds an option to let us upload paintings like how we upload player skins, then I shall spam gigabytes worth of images in and promptly get myself banned.

You mean to tell me that if I were to remove custom_water_flowing.png that the mod would automatically cascade the animation frames? Because if so, then hot diggity damn! That solves that issue! In fact I'm going to go try it out right now.

If I delete custom_water_flowing.png, the patcher automatically uses the water from terrain.png for the custom water but ONLY when it's flowing!.
Meaning if I put the frames from the custom still water into terrain.png the patcher automatically cascades them downward as new animation.
this is my face as I tested this just now:
Okay and I just spent a few minutes pasting animation frames into the terrain png to see if it looked nice.
AND IT DOES! YES!

It looks glorious. I'd record a video but I'm not exactly hankering to upload a 10-second video of minecraft water to my youtube account.
It looks great though. And due to the fact my water has a wiggly stripe that is brighter and more opaque than the rest of itself, when it flows over hills and rocks it gives it a really trippy "shimmering" look.
I also tested it with lava. Looked like ass.
Looks great with water though so now I am prompting a 4/17 6:42 am in the morning update to the pack. (along with darkening and yellowing the stem of that one rose that was irking me).

But i would like to ask a question about the server/paintings thing. I don't play on a server atm, so forgive my ignorance. But wouldn't the paintings fall in the catagory as textures. Does the server admin have the option to NOT use custom paintings on the server just in the same way an SSP has the option to not install custom paintings with the texture pack? Anywho...
Even if you can or can not. I personaly am always going to be for more Zekey content.Whether it be paintings, weather, custom mod textures, or what ever twisted concoction HE wants to put out.

Check this out. This is CJBs thread for his kick ass mods, which look updated today (V2.1.6). Used in the Zeky Wildgrass HUD shot from a few posts ago. I highly recommend trying them all out. I just used some diff textures in the menu.png, easily found.

PS: Doesn't Zekofcraft vines look like spidey webs like in the Todd Mcfarlane days? Just color them white/gray. Custom spidey webs to climb.

I know laziness spreads like the plague through this thread. So, here are the wildgrass compatible textures form Zekocraft. These textures are needed for the wildGrass modLoader version. They are just the new wildgrass textures from the terrain.png cut into individual 'bite size' .png files and put in a wildGrass folder. Enjoy.
Zeke, maybe you can paint your own interpretation of the paintings. Like your own skull painting etc. The default painting look very silly with this texture pack. :tongue.gif:

Whenever I patch my texture pack in, if I use the workbench or try to look at statistics, the game freezes and closes. Also happened when I picked up one of the new saplings.
Am I the only person this happening to?

I can't believe i forgot to comment on the new Achievement UI. I was hoping for a retro-fitted old style with the skull, but seeing as how the new bg.png has a new shape and placement, a new approach was needed. And a superb approach it is. I miss the 'UI that never was' but this one kicks major amounts of diamond-plated ass.
- added new grass biome color triangle. grass now comes in teal, ice blue, dark green, green, green yellow, yellow, hazel, orange, red, brown, and pink.
- Added power rails and pressure pad rails graphics.
- redrew the new saplings
- moved the saplings down in the png because I am worlds biggest moron and put them in the wrong spot
- Added a little more detail to the wood door
- made it so the zombies eyes and ears are actually sunk into its head
- redid the GUI for achievements (for the 3rd time today) into a piratey-looking map parchment
- redid the icons for the statistics menu
- redrew the wooden pick FOR NO RAISIN
And as a special update thing for those who've been wanting it, I made an alternate paintings file. In the latest zip, in the art folder, is a file called art_alt.png
It gots a few art from me, a few art from artists I like, and a few portraits of things I like. Theres also a hetzer tank destroyer and an AKM gun in there somewhere.
I have to say, this is probably the nicest looking texture pack I've seen. I've been searching for a decent one for quite some time, but none were as fitting for me as yours. Thanks!
This is a very awesome texture pack! In fact, it's he only one I like other than the default :iapprove:. Also, can I use the signature thing in my signature?
Hey man, love the texture pack! It's the only one I use now. But I was wondering how I could "patch" it into minecraft. I want to be able to see the colored trees and custom water/lava. Thanks for making an awesome texture pack
I'm liking the update thus far. I've only seen one color of grass so far, but the screenshots look great. I love the GUI as always, and the added detail on the wooden door looks great (although the bottom half doesn't seem to quite look right with the top half). The wooden pickaxe confuses me though. I think you were trying to make sort of a lighting effect (I could be wrong), but it makes the wooden handle of the pickaxe look like its made out of a copper or bronze metal (intentional?). I like the gradient effect on the end though.
The paintings are nice and I'm happy you put an effort into making an alternative set, but to be honest I'm a little disappointed. The reason I didn't like the default painting set was because it didn't suit the texture pack. The paintings you picked out are nice, but they don't fit the feel of the texture pack anymore than the default ones do. Ideally, I would like it if you created the painting specifically for Minecraft just like you did the GUI.
My complaints are minor compared to what I like about the texture pack, so don't take what I'm saying as an insult. If I didn't like the texture pack in the first place, I wouldn't waste my time giving feedback.
Off-topic: Your music playlist on your website is excellent. I listen to it often when I'm playing Minecraft. (the music oddly suits the texture pack very well) Have you ever considered making your own music? You have a great taste for it, and making music can be a form of art too.

But i would like to ask a question about the server/paintings thing. I don't play on a server atm, so forgive my ignorance. But wouldn't the paintings fall in the catagory as textures. Does the server admin have the option to NOT use custom paintings on the server just in the same way an SSP has the option to not install custom paintings with the texture pack? Anywho...
Even if you can or can not. I personaly am always going to be for more Zekey content.Whether it be paintings, weather, custom mod textures, or what ever twisted concoction HE wants to put out.

On a side note, i have been a fan of music longer than that of visual expression. Cheesey way i see art is the sound and rhythm of colors. I am really liking Preisner. The mood he sets on Beksinki's page is captivating. LOL, been listening to it for an hour now.

Check this out. This is CJBs thread for his kick ass mods, which look updated today (V2.1.6). Used in the Zeky Wildgrass HUD shot from a few posts ago. I highly recommend trying them all out. I just used some diff textures in the menu.png, easily found.

PS: Doesn't Zekofcraft vines look like spidey webs like in the Todd Mcfarlane days? Just color them white/gray. Custom spidey webs to climb.
I know laziness spreads like the plague through this thread. So, here are the wildgrass compatible textures form Zekocraft. These textures are needed for the wildGrass modLoader version. They are just the new wildgrass textures from the terrain.png cut into individual 'bite size' .png files and put in a wildGrass folder. Enjoy.

In other news, today was an update. But minecraft is so buggered up right now it barely works for me.
But we now have biome sidegrass! I'm so happy yet confused all at once!

Whenever I patch my texture pack in, if I use the workbench or try to look at statistics, the game freezes and closes. Also happened when I picked up one of the new saplings.
Am I the only person this happening to?

New saplings and rails look tasty. As good as candy. I'm telling you guys, this pack gets to my sweet tooth for some reason. Great news about the alt art. If you hadnt posted that, im sure the requests would keep coming in. I know i would keep pestering you about it. Oh yea 1.5_01 is out, might have fixed your crashes.

April 20th + 21st Update
What I done did:
- added new grass biome color triangle. grass now comes in teal, ice blue, dark green, green, green yellow, yellow, hazel, orange, red, brown, and pink.
- Added power rails and pressure pad rails graphics.
- redrew the new saplings
- moved the saplings down in the png because I am worlds biggest moron and put them in the wrong spot
- Added a little more detail to the wood door
- made it so the zombies eyes and ears are actually sunk into its head
- redid the GUI for achievements (for the 3rd time today) into a piratey-looking map parchment
- redid the icons for the statistics menu
- redrew the wooden pick FOR NO RAISIN
And as a special update thing for those who've been wanting it, I made an alternate paintings file. In the latest zip, in the art folder, is a file called art_alt.png
It gots a few art from me, a few art from artists I like, and a few portraits of things I like. Theres also a hetzer tank destroyer and an AKM gun in there somewhere.
And now I'm going to finish Portal 2.

Curse PremiumThe paintings are nice and I'm happy you put an effort into making an alternative set, but to be honest I'm a little disappointed. The reason I didn't like the default painting set was because it didn't suit the texture pack. The paintings you picked out are nice, but they don't fit the feel of the texture pack anymore than the default ones do. Ideally, I would like it if you created the painting specifically for Minecraft just like you did the GUI.
My complaints are minor compared to what I like about the texture pack, so don't take what I'm saying as an insult. If I didn't like the texture pack in the first place, I wouldn't waste my time giving feedback.
Off-topic: Your music playlist on your website is excellent. I listen to it often when I'm playing Minecraft. (the music oddly suits the texture pack very well) Have you ever considered making your own music? You have a great taste for it, and making music can be a form of art too.
