The idea behind AlchemyCraft was simple: what if instead of "breaking" items to collect them, you drew transmutation circles on them? From this simple idea grew a desire to make a highly Alchemy-themed minecraft texture pack. As I got more into the idea, I decided to not just retexture some of the items, but rather to do a full texture pack that suited my aesthetic preferences as well, thus leading to where we are now. This pack is currently a work in progress, but rather than do all the development for this new pack behind the scenes, I thought it'd be fun to have the community give input on the pack's development.
(v0.1)
Pickaxes changed to charcoal (wood), chalk (stone), and chisels for iron, diamond and gold.
Axes changed to carving knives of the appropriate material.
Stone re-textured to a light, low-contrast texture.
All ores textured with (semi-) appropriate symbols for each ore. For elements with no direct alchemical symbol, the "next best thing" was chosen.
v0.3 Screenshots:
Smooth, low-contrast landscapes.
Sandstone that looks like sandstone!
Redesigned interiors, with loads alchemical symbolism.
0.2 to come shortly, for now I'll be focusing on terrain, but my big question for the community is, when I go back to items, got any clever ideas for the shovels?
Looks like you're off to a great start! You have a very creative idea and I can't wait to see what comes of this as time goes on.
Shovels, maybe a mortar and pestle since the idea seems to be taking the essence of the item rather then the object itself. That or keep tools but give them a more mystic/astrological significance maybe?
Thanks! I'm happy to say that it's coming a long very nicely! I expect to be able to call this done before too terribly long at this pace.
Also, I'm taking into consideration your thoughts on the tools...I'm still not totally decided on the shovels but I want to keep working on the terrain right now, so I'll give it some more thought.
EPIC! looking forwards to completion, the transmutation circle is a great idea too... surprised no-one came up with it before now (FMA is awesome!)
for you when you finish...
v0.3 is out! Mostly it was cleanups and touchups of things I'd already started in v0.2. A few of the big updates are crafting tables, furnaces, dispensers and sandstone.
One of my biggest pet peeves in the default, and many other texture packs, is that sandstone doesn't look like sandstone. Real sandstone is full of color, and so is my new sandstone. I'm very happy about this.
I really enjoy this texture pack, especially the concept behind it!
:smile.gif: Perhaps someday you should team up with a modder and work on some classic alchemical recipes. A hard-to craft Philosopher's Stone would be great, and useful for fun things like turning iron blocks (Since MC doesn't have lead..) into gold, regaining health, and stuff.
But I'm probably getting waay ahead of things hre, eh? Heheh.
Still, I do enjoy all the symbols everywhere and whatnot. very good stuff. Keep at it!

Even though it's 16x, it still requires MCPatcher according to reports I've heard.

I've added a lot of retexturing. I'm into a pretty low contrast appearance, so that's reflected here.
Link, new screenshots, and a changelog will be added to the first post shortly.
