Something I thought of, and could use myself, but decided that other people might be able to make use of it too, is a texture pack customiser.
You see, I use The Painterly Pack, and while it's great that I can pick and choose what I want out of their selection, I also modify their trees, use my own redstone stuff and change the grass to still be biome compliant. In short, I spend a fair amount of time in Photoshop rearranging all those damned tiles.
So I thought I might make a program that you load texture packs into, it automatically (for the most common mods) finds the relevant tiles, extracts them, places them into a database, and then you can create your own custom pack from anything you've already fed into the program.
So you might pick "Dirt and Grass" then find the side block you want, the top block you want, the dirt block you want, and then the program puts those 3 tiles into a terrain.png (along with anything else you select different, such as mobs, items, etc) and packs it into a zip, puts it into the texture pack folder and boots up Minecraft.
Then I thought that I could make it more userfriendly, and make it available to the public.
Would you find this useful? Do you think it's worth making?
Optional extras would be a tiling preview of a given tile, a 3d preview of a given block (or assortment of blocks)...

Well, seems like there's at least some interest in this. To top it off, it's not really exclusive to minecraft but I'm going to definitely target it that way, at least it first.
I know I would deeply appreciate a user friendly UI for this. I love Misa's pack but I have issues with some of her tiles that Albion's pack solves :smile.gif: Let me know if you ever get it off the ground.
PS I would love if you could PM and I would love to help you out on some aspects of this, Maybe talking to a ton of different texture pack authors and see if we can use their texture packs to mix and match with others?

I am going to start working on a texture pack splicer, but it will probably be mac only, and knowing me I might not ever get it into release worthy condition... We'll see.
If this was youtube i'd:

Hey guys. A friend and I have been working on a website (publicly available!) for the last couple of months that does the exact same thing mrbaggins was talking about. We just found this thread and thought we'd let you guys know since you seem so crazed about the idea! :smile.gif:
We've been assisted by andrejolicoeur (creator of Jolicraft) and have also included Skincraft, the character customizer by Swain, into the site amongst many other cool features.
It is about 97% complete at least to the point of where we feel comfortable letting it loose into the world. We plan to have it ready by Wednesday hopefully after making some last minute changes and tweaking the UI with andre's help.
For now, you can PM me or Kaiassc for details or any questions you have. We can send out messages once the site is up or you can just wait a few more days.
Also, check us out on Twitter if you wan't to know the moment it becomes public. ( Bramamine or Kaiassc )
We will be releasing our site tonight. I'll tweet tweet on Twitter when its ready for you guys. All we need to do is transfer over to our hosting server and do some testing.
