sup, i was wondering if anyone has made a program that allows u to open it, and it shows you pictures, or tabs of each item in the game, then u can edit them with colors and stuff, then save it, and it will create you a texture pack. tbh, id think this is like one of the first programs i would make if i had any clue how to do that. it took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to download texture packs into the texture pack folder >.< if this hasent been created, i think it would be epic if someone created this and i would definatly love them forever!
haha i have photoshop, gimp, and MA paint.... but idk where to put the files once ive edited them. it would be nice if there was a program that would open the files for u to edit then save it into the right folder. and yes, im computer retarded i understand
I would like something like that. It would make it easier to start it and the more advanced people could export then edit in paint or whatever. Or, you know, just leave it to us not-great-at-skinning-and-stuff guys.

I beat Minecraft once. Turns out I had to pay for a new screen.

Called MS paint. Pixel over your desired pixels in your desired colors and click the left mouse button. Not that hard.

Its A whole lot more difficult when you want to see your textures without repeatedly opening Minecraft.
I don't really care how much effort it is, because some of the texture spots don't make sense. Why are there 2spots for pumpkins and jack'o'lanterns individually amd 8 different cobblestone textures in lucid pack?
Also, I despise paint with a firey passion. Other programs, meh, but not paint...

Extract the files from minecraft.jar and then delete all the class files, leaving you with everything you need for a texture pack.
Then just right click and open each picture with your image editing program and save it so it overwrites the existing file. That way you know you're saving in the right folder each time.
Put all the files and folders in a zip file and put it in the texturepacks folder.
Done.
I don't really see a need for a program since it's already so easy to do.

Learn to live with pixels. It's Minecraft, bro, not Idontwantanypixelsbecauseiwontworkhard. Anyway.

Are you really complaining about having to open Minecraft to preview your textures?
Christ it's not hard and it takes a whole 5 seconds.
Not on my crappy computer where minecraft still runs slowly when I limit the frame rate and have the render distance on tiny.
Al I am saying is that, despite the simplicity, I would support the program because I am daunted by the normal process. Perhaps it's irrational, but whatever.

You can't use paint, you'll **** up the transparency.

Look, if you wanna be snippy with people, that's great. That's how some people get their kicks, but at least try to stick to topics you have some knowledge about cause then it just makes you look like an ass, twice!
Regardless what they say, in this case, 2 is not better than 1.
OP, use GIMP or something or try one of these tools if any still work.

It looks like you just filled any of the transparency area with white, find out what the transparency colour is(I think it's a magenta colour) and use that. You can use MS Paint for everything for texture packs.

I didn't fill anything with anything, I opened terrain.png in paint and resaved without even touching a brush. Would you like my files as a reference so you can observe no visual differences but transparency differences when you load either in game?
Everyone is being so snippy! I dont understand the big deal.
I actually think this would be a cool idea/thing to have. If anything, It would be nice to just have something that differentiates the different parts of the mob and such. Being able to test it without having to constantly keep going in-game would be nice too.

That's what I said, and they criticized me for not wanting to open minecraft on my slow computer... Why was this such a big deal to those guys?
BTW Thanks for bringing in reason. You too MDR.

I use photoshop to edit my textures but I still would like something like this. Even just something that loaded a texture file and gave me a preview of all the blocks would be awesome so I don't have to load up minecraft over and over as I fix little mistakes here and there.
I had this Idea as well, I was going to post it in its own thread but found this one and figure I will post it here.
What I am looking for is not quite a texture creation program. Like many have posted that can be done with any simple editor. but after spending 40 minutes moving the bed from original to my custom pack and grabbing the portal cake from one pack and bricks from another what I though might be really useful is a texture selection and creation program.
Basically what it would do its have a UI that allows you to load multiple texture packs, select a texture for each block, and generate a texture pack from your selections. This would make mixing multiple texture packs much easier and faster and would allow more creative freedom for those who do lack the skills to create their own.
A possible shortcut would be to select a default texture pack, and then modify it using one or more texture packs loaded in to the program after that way you would need to select every block, just the ones you want to update from other packs.
I would make this myself but I know very little about coding and nothing about how to output a PNG file, let alone multiple files in the correct structure.

Well, it's not exactly a program, but this kith help things a bit.
