The title pretty much says it all, yet I shall still provide more info here. =D
I already understand about the whole HD-texture-fix thing for getting custom water/lava to work. And I have installed texture packs with custom water/lava successfully this way. I also know most of what I need to about creating the custom water/lava image files.
However, I don't know how many frames long these custom animations are allowed to be. From looking at a couple other texture packs, I've seen a couple acceptable lengths (for example, Misa's HD overhaul has 60-frame-long custom lava). Is any length acceptable? Does it need to be a multiple of some number? Could I, if I wished, make a ridiculously long (read: in the thousands) frame long custom liquid animation?
I realize that last one is a bit absurd-sounding, but I just want to know what sort of restrictions there are, so that I can obsessively micromanage things to my heart's content.
Thanks in advance!

Sanity is a carrot. You find it green and easy to find, but the deeper you go, it turns funny colors and narrows down to nothing.
You can use as many frames as you want, odd or even amount. No restrictions as far as I know. The vertical resolution just obviously has to be a multiple of the horizontal and must match the resolution of the rest of the texture pack. As far as thousands go... Opening the image file for that alone in MS Paint might be a memory hog on most systems.
