A while ago I decided to make an "Alien World" texture pack, as those that I've seen aren't very alien and are more just regular worlds with strange colors. With this pack I tried to create something very different without altering the basic type of things. For instance, the bow is still a bow and not a laser pistol or anything like that.
With that being said, I altered just about everything in the game. From the GUI right on through the water and lava animations, nothing was spared. I even made my own modified pixel font, but since in Minecraft the font is rendered on screen with reverse backwards insane-o logic, only the default font displays right.
Chickens are adorable insect-things! (Also, stone, cobble & half-step, torches, wood door etc.)
Pigs look like pillbugs! (Some alien flowers, iron door, tree trunks in the bg)
Sheep...kinda still look like sheep. Kept the wool white for dying purposes, and well, still sheepish. (Sugarcane, some water, more trees)
Cows have defensive coloration like big mooing butterflies and water is some kind of strange electroluminescent stuff!
The Nether is actually kind of difficult and scary to traverse! Lava pulsates with alien energy!
(the glow fades in and out, the on/off is just for this gif)
All new mob skins, armor, items, etc. etc. etc. and even more info on the...
I don't want to give too much away, half the fun is running into new stuff and discovering how things look. Don't worry, everything is just similar enough that you should be able to adapt and still have fun with it.
THE CUSTOM LAVA, WATER, FIRE & PORTAL ANIMATIONS NEED YOUR MINECRAFT TO BE PATCHED WITH MCPATCHER OR OPTIFINE!
I'm REALLY enjoying this pack!
It's changed my play style a bit, because now it feels like I've crash landed on an alien world, instead of washing up on a beach. I love it.
This is great, and I LOVE the Nether. But the eyeball trees don't seem to look so good, maybe make the leaves a bit more like leaves? Also, the space between each letter in the font can be reduced. I love the zombie skin through!

Glad you're digging it! For the trees, I was thinking more "frog eggs" than eyeballs, but I definitely want them to not be leaf-like. That's kind of the point, alien world and all. They're more like animals like a coral or something I dunno.
The font spacing issue is actually with how Minecraft deals with fonts, and unfortunately can't be changed without some modding of the actual minecraft.jar. Due to the way font-handling is hard coded, anything other than the default font just doesn't display right. I originally had the font in the electric green I used for fire etc, but when it's not white, Minecraft treats every letter like it's only one pixel wide, and it's a huge mess.
Nice of Mojang to not place new textures where the old redstone wire textures used to be. The new pack is therefor still 100% compatible with Minecraft 1.2_x too.

Do you have an estimate on when it will be ready for 1.4?
I'm really happy with this pack. I made some placeholder graphics for tall grass for 1.6.6. They were invisible using the 1.5 pack so I was confused and checked it out. Lava and water really surprised me, they're fun. This weird world is like a comfortable home for me!
Now that I have your attention...

Now for some more eye candy.

I hope I've made that clear...
Enjoy, and let me know what you think
But looks creepy...

This pack is so good, but it'll never update. ;_;
This so hard.
I actually wanted to build with it in SMP.
NOW 1.5_x COMPATIBLE!!!
I was worried the achievements would be impossible to read in the pack's style, but it's not an issue at all, hooray!
Also, since MCPatcher supports it now, I'm planning on custom (green) fire in the next update. Should be a hoot.
I guess ill download the new version,
You see that green button with the plus? You dont have to click it, and I am not gonna force you to do it.
I wonder what it smells like on aleph setei..! The new rain graphic is something I like particularly.
