noob question, is the default texture 8x8 or 16x16? if i want to use a 16x16 can i just put it in the texture packs folder and select it, or do i need that hd texture patch?

It would be nice to have it 8*8 for the people with crap computers like I. Most mob's faces (other than ghast [and slime?]) are 8*8. Blocks are, unmodded, 16*16.
is the default 8x8 or 16x16?
