Hello. I seem to be having a bit of trouble with the Jolicraft ( / Joliween ) texture pack. I'm a casual Minecrafter, but as of late I've gotten more interested in it. The biggest hook for me at the moment is your Joliween texture pack. I absolutely adore it. October / Halloween is my favorite time of year. Anyway, it would seem that I can't get the "pictures" to work correctly. They are incredibly dark. . . it looks to me as if I am missing a shader file, or something. I don't know much about the technical inner workings of Minecraft, however, so I'm not quite sure. I first noticed the problem while using Joliween, so I switched over to Jolicraft thinking that it might be a bug in the Joliween texture file. However, the problem persisted. Next, I thought perhaps it was a conflict with another mod / texture pack, so I wiped out Minecraft and started with a clean file. At current, I have no mods whatsoever in my game, and the only texture pack installed is Jolicraft Version 4.1. So, now I am thinking perhaps its because I am running Minecraft Version 1.8.1 ( I don't like using the Pre-Release versions. ), and that maybe the error has something to do with that. However, I couldn't find any downloads for older versions. [ Edit 1a: I feel dense, I found the older version, and I've installed Jolicraft Version 4.0. This has made a vast improvement, as now I can actually see most of the images, but they appear much too dark. Some of the larger pictures are nearly entirely black. . . ] I am adding links to images of the problem below. I would really appreciate any help with this matter. The thing I loved most about Jolicraft were the custom pictures. I really like your work. Note: I used the MCPatcher after taking these screenshots to see if that would make a difference. Besides changing the color of the water / lava as it is supposed to, it has made no improvement. [ Edit 1b: Screenshots are updated as of the above edit to show how they appear with the 4.0 version. ]

Andrรฉ, just want to let you know that the enchantment tables actually suck letters from nearby library books. At the moment Jolicraft doesn't seem to have the right particle effects in place to do this. Had a quick look to figure out what is needed, end result... No idea. :sad.gif:
You need to use the Texture Patcher. It's a sticky at the top of the texture pack forum.
I can only assume you mean this, which would be the MCPatcher I stated in my original post that I've already tried. Its made no difference, except for changing the water and lava colors.
If I am missing something, please direct me to it. I'm rather slow at processing things, so its possible I'm simply missing the texture patcher you are referring to.
On a side note, I believe you are the one posting the Joliween Hardcore Edition videos on youtube, are you not?
Its the first thing I check when I get up in the morning; to see if the new video is uploaded or not. :3

@tawnydelight, i've been having the same problem. it also happens with the risers on brick stairs and signposts.
i assume it's more of a minecraft lighting error than a problem with the texture pack
@Pango - You are rather incredible. I don't know why I didn't assume it was something to do with Minecraft itself.
I re-loaded the map I'd used to take those screenshots, only this time using the Default Minecraft texture.
The pictures were of course all different, but the exact same ones were blacked out.
After a more extensive read of the known bugs in Minecraft Version 1.8 ( on Minecraft wiki ), I've discovered the following under "Lighting". [ direct link ]
- Certain paintings are very dark and in some instances the colors cannot be seen. Placing torches increases light but only by a very small modicum.
[ Edit: Here are some additional reasons - It would appear that the picture will turn completely black when there is a block directly above it, regardless of the amount of light available. Also, smooth lighting appears to not work on paintings. Completely surrounding the painting in torches seems to help. ( However, I've found it makes it look like a shrine and is therefore rather creepy. ) ]
Well, at least I can stop looking for a solution now. ^ ^
I just wont use pictures until the official 1.9 Beta comes out.
Thank you for your help ( and the time it took you to read my lengthy post ) anyway!

What I did was put some glowstone in the ceiling above the painting. That illuminates it nicely.
Steve was a lonely giant pumpkin. The other, normal sized pumpkins made fun of him for being so large. He moved to the swamplands to begin again, but alas! The damp air caused strange mushrooms and plants to grow on his head. Steve felt so ugly that he just began to cry.

Good luck figuring it out :tongue.gif:
