So I've been working on a Silent Hill themed build for some time now. Up till now, I've simply used existing Minecraft elements to recreate the building from the game. However, now I've begun to plan out the alternate version of the building. For this section, The building is like 20% nasty skin colored wall, 10% dead bodies, and 70% rusty metal grating. Obviously these things are not exactly readily available in Minecraft.
Anyway, I'm trying to replace some of the textures I didn't use for the regular school with my own alternate textures so I can make the alternate school look right. Below I have a screenshot of the rusty metal grate I made that replaces obsidian texture. I used paint.net as I have seen to do on forums here to make sure transparency works right, which worked fine. However, I'm noticing the bottom of my blocks have become x-rays that see down into the depths of the level.
I assume this is because most opaque blocks are coded differently than glass blocks are, since they obviously don't this problem. But I wanted to get people's advice on here in case I'm wrong or if there's something I can do to work around this.
Also I apologize if this is some kind of noob problem as this is pretty much the first time I've tried to create custom textures for any game.
You're right! The code for drawing opaque blocks is different than the code for drawing transparent blocks. We're stuck with glass (and spawners?) as the only "working" transparent blocks, for now.

do you know how to get to the Netherlands other than a portal
That stinks. I originally was going to try to use the spawner blocks since they kind of were like metal grate, except there was a flaming pig inside when I tried to use it lol. Didn't realize it would do that when you give it to yourself, even on a server where you turned the mobs off.
