Release page: http://anonex.org/minecraft/
Keeps pretty faithful to the original textures' feel, I think; just... half the resolution. (It is, of course, technically a 16x16px texture pack, texture-file-dimensions wise)
Nearly all textures have been remade.
NOTE: To the best of my knowledge, to get water, lava, compass, and watch textures working, the texture pack must be installed with xau's HD Texture Fix.
Here's a few images from version before I got water working, the textures shown are mostly unchanged: (Trying to get Betterlight working to take newer/better screenshots, but my ancient computer is whining about it. Apologies.)
I like it! A very original style. The only problem I have with it is that there is a single pixel in the obsidian texture which sticks out quite a bit from the rest of the texture.

Glad you like it.
Upon closer examination (though I'm not sure if this is the specific pixel you're talking about) it does look better with this change and I'll update it next time I repackage it. Might change it more. I don't know. http://i.imgur.com/bO2Kr.png
(left current, right revised)
I plan on changing a few other things like the buckets, brick-item, wheat, etc that I'm not 100% happy with at some point, but I've been working on this off and on for awhile and it felt time to release.
The pixel that you just changed does make it look better however, since the tiling is less obvious. I think it could also benefit from being darkened a bit, or perhaps raising the contrast to make it look more colorful.
