My only complaint with most of the high res packs is that they lean towards realism. I prefer a more cartoonish look similar to Blizzard's art style.
That however, is a stylistic complaint, not one aimed at the resolution itself. Personally, if minecraft actually supported higher res textures without modding, I'd probably be working on something in the 64x range, but it doesn't so 16x it is.

When someone comes up with a single valid argument for why more pixels equates to less quality I'll stand up and say "Well, you're absolutely right and I've been a fool". But the facts are clear and undeniable.
Wrapping ANY texture around a cube results in a cube. This does not factor into the debate.
I can create a perfect reproduction of any 16 pixel pack in any higher resolution.
No 16 pixel pack can reproduce the appearance of any pack of higher resolution.
Therefore I conclude that the only pertinent feature of ANY texture pack at ANY resolution is the appearance.
So it comes down to "Do you like it?" and that is your own opinion and nothing more. And everyone's got an opinion and an asshole but others are not often interested in seeing either of them.
The fact that each plane of a cube is perfectly flat and minecraft has an unrealistic low rez theme makes putting huge textures that try to be realistic a bad idea. All texture packs above 64px have stuff that looks like a picture taken from google images and slapped on the terrain.png. I'd rather not play a game where everything looks like a photo has been put on the walls. I've seen a texture pack that redid the original but used blacks and grays to make the lighter parts of the textures stand out, and the darker parts withdraw in, giving it a nice bumpy look. If you could somehow take the original terrain and do that, it would fit the theme. But putting realistic stuff in is bad, realistic things need the realistic shape which is not possible in minecraft as of this post

Scribblecraft is OK, nothing more, from short distances. Look at stuff in the distance and it looks like puke. Not to mention that quite a few of the blocks look like pubes

these arguments do appear to be biased towards the HD packs. Not once has someone said a bad word against 16x16 in this topic not even the ones that like the HD packs or create them! they could go down the route of: putting a 16x16 resolution texture on a block that can support upto 256x526 textures just doesnt make sense either it just looks bad.
Its not our fault that we get baited into these types of topics, each pack wether it be 16x16 - 256x256 has its problems and downsides and it all depends on the individuals opinions. These opinions will not vary. I Noticed that you were quite quick to pick out faults with the packs but have not contributed to the borderland topic in order to help the creator to improve the pack. At least that way then we might be able to achieve a middle ground and maybe bring the HD texture packs more inline with everyones taste. the borderlands texture pack is fairly new and im sure the creator would value your opinions.
