Most people on the internet just want free stuff. If you want to get some cash* out, the best way is to have ads.
However I don't feel like having a donation button is a bad thing, maybe somewhere out there is a guy/girl so impressed of your work that they want to give something back except a :Diamond:(not saying it's a bad thing).
I for one have spent hours and hours on my pack, and if I would get a donation, even if it just was 1$, I would get so exited to make it even better, If only for that person who donated.
Compilation pack, in my opinion, do not deserve anything, since the original artwork isn't theirs, everyone can cut and paste.
*cash is good, you can get food for it or pay for possible server cost(I host my own files).
I was really just curious as to other's opinions rather than trying to convince myself to ask for donations or not.
I host files, spend time and money on my work here and I don't ask for donations nor am I thinking of starting. I honestly cannot imagine that it would actually raise any funds. I could certainly use them as I'm between jobs, but I don't actually think it would be profitable.
I do know that the author of one of the server management mods is paying his mortgage off it, but that's from commercial hosting providers licensing his mod.
Eh if the pack is entirely your own work (or you have all the original authors permissions) you can do whatever you like.
Heck you could even /sell/ your pack if you wanted.
The bigger problem is finding people willing to give you money. (AKA advertising)

What about for compilation packs?
Do you include a donation link on your pack? If you do, is your pack wholy your own work? If not do you plan to share the donations?
Just curious what the consensus ( ha! ) is.
