there is this thread viewtopic.php?f=25&t=61065 with templates to help in creation of texture packs, but are there any other people making texture packs, somebody who has a template for 256X256 gui and armor.
You will not find many texture packages higher than 128 because of the 'nerd love' for 16x. Most peoples machines can not even handle 64x and people want 16x. Those like me that run 128x and higher are far and few in the game.
Most of the people only want and like 16x packages (they like it original), and there are tons of those (none of which I like, they're all the same but with different colors, they're so low res you don't see a difference) all over the forums.
I just make my own by taking others textures and putting them all together with what parts I like to use in my custom 128x, but 256 is just too high res for a crappy OpenGL game (crappy as in it's not built to run hard core like Quake and those OpenGL type games).
I've tried the 256x and they are nice, but going above that is just not going to make the game come alive. The only time when you notice 256x and above is when the object is mid way to you and when you're close to it. 128x is perfect for the game, but hardly anyone likes them because they like 16x blocky look the game started out with.

If you want a 256x256 template download a 256 texture pack like mine and use that as the template for yours.
Plus you don't really need a template really... just make a grid on your image editing software and you're all gravy :smile.gif:
I did with gimp to make a grid and thats how I make my pack. Using the 16x16 as reference to see where my textures go.

Nerd love?
256 ALWAYS looks like **** no exceptions yet
If you disagree you are one of those LOL HD LOOKS SO GOOD XD kids or you need an eye check, honestly

Take a gander on down to my pack. It's 128 as of right now, but there are some 256 screens in the main page. It's pretty realistic and I'm no where near done with it.
Theres no point making a texture that should be for an abject with curves when this game is boxes. The bark texture would look good with a round trunk for instance, but nothing will make that stone look good ever sorry

Well, there is no rounded "objects" in Minecraft 'with' curves. 128x does not provide curves, either (or higher texture packages for that matter). It's just a flat image 128x128 pixels to allow more detail. If done right it looks nice, if not it looks like crud. But if it's not your flavor, use what you want. That's why God made MODS.
When Notch makes the game standard 64x, we'll have buckets for your tears ready. (no he did not say this before you start in. I would find great humor if he ever did though)
but I highly doubt this game will remain at 16x from Notch forever, but I do believe he will offer different package sizes for players in the future.

still doesnt answer his question. is there one?
I didn't really feel like answering his question directly due to the fact there are already 256x256 textures in this forum. All he needed to do was download the texture packages and he would have a template to work off of.
I don't wanter my grass and other plants with Electrolytes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I said there this game is boxes. In case you haven't noticed, boxes are NOT round.
I didn't get any further, your LOL I TROL U XXXXDDDD attitude is silly and immature, and only serves to make yourself look completely retarded
Oh, and trolling is against the rules. Even if what you just did is not real trolling at all, you admitted to it. Do you really want to push it further
From what I've read here I may go with 128X128, I haven't ever used a 256X256, but I currently have the bordercraft texture pack on which made me want to make a texture pack from pictures of real items then rotoscope them.. I figured that 256X256 would be better for that.
Primarily I use Paint Shop Pro X2 for all my graphics needs, as such it has a grid system that can be turned on so I turn it on and set it to 64x64 so that I can see the grid.
From what I understand, the 64x terrain.png is a 1024x1024 image, 128x is 2048x2048 etc etc.
For me, I know it sounds impossible, but I get far better performance using a customized Bordercraft's (a mixture of borderland and misa's and sanguine and another fellows as well as some of my own handy work) 64x texture and the performance of the game is much better than using the vanilla 16x textures. I honestly can't explain that, it doesn't make any sense but fraps shows a higher fps with a 64x texture pack than it does with the 16x texture pack, and it's noticible for me while trying to walk around the game world too. (less jitters, not really lag, but jitters, but not jitters from loading new areas, if you get what I mean)
Anyway, looking forward to what texture pack you come up with.

You, friend, are far, far too narrow-minded. I've seen quite a few fantastic 16x16 packs that look incredibly unique and eye-pleasing. The trick is just to NOT shoot to look "realistic" or even similar to the default at all. Do something original.
Me, I use 16x16 the most, but I have been known to toy around with a couple higher-res ones.
No, you don't, and you probably don't care. If I told you you might discuss it, but it wouldn't change what you prefer. So why would I come onto someone's post and tell you which size I think is best and why?

Making fun of 16x texture packages is
I needed a good laugh today, this thread helped.

It's just rude.
That is 100% untrue about a tremendous number of the low-res packs.

Curse PremiumOK then
I wasn't sure what to do with that, I thought maybe i'd end up with spaces in between the animations and get a final product with holes in it.
