I know that some folks have done this in the past with paintings but with out a mod it was difficult to choose the right painting to get the arrow that you wanted to place.
Being that I'm really not one for the different colored wools in my game (I have no real use for them), I've created my wool arrows, it consists of wool (stock colors) with an arrow on top of it in 64x (original size), 32x, 16x (downsized as best as I could) that you can simply take the image in the size that you need, and should be able to simply overlay it into your terrain.png file, then when you want to place a arrow pointing to the right, place a black wool block in the wall.
Useful for not getting lost in caves.
Original Creators:
The colored wool blocks in this were originally created by Misa and can be found in her Misa's 64x texture pack (link).
Hope you find them useful, please feel free to create your own and share them with the community. I use a 64x texture pack so if you do create new ones in 64x please make sure to share it with the community.
Thanks,
64x 32x 16x
In game shot:
[Ignore the pink stripe on the edge of the black or gray block, it was simply because I misplaced the textures by one pixel in my own terrain file, the images above are fine as long as you place them properly in your own pack]
Click on images above for fullsize image then right click on them and choose 'save as' then paste them into your terrain.png file in your paintshop pro, photo shop, the gimp, or paint.net graphics program. Edit -
More than anything else this is just an idea. To make it look it's best you would copy the stone texture in your texture pack and overlay it onto the colored wool and then place arrows on top of that so that when you place them in the cave, they would be the stone textures with an arrow on top of them to indicate which way to go inside of the tunnels instead of using the colored wool with an arrow. But I like this way too because it sticks out in the tunnels with a bit of colored background beneath the yellow arrows too.
Okay, I've moved them to tinypic since I apparently don't know what the hell I'm doing when I try to host them on my dropbox account and post the image urls.
Hopefully people can see them now.
Thanks for telling me because I wouldn't have known since they showed up okay for me, probably because I own the dropbox account.
And the nice thing about this, is that depending on where you place the block (wall, floor, ceiling etc) they are multi-purpose since the arrow changes depending on placement (I think so anyway).
