Authentic is an attempt to match the default textures at 32 pixel resolution. No stylistic interpretations, no improvements, just the default textures rendered as accurately as I could at double the original resolution.
Please let me know your opinions and suggestions. If this is popular I'll do the rest of the texture files.

You just resized it to 200% with the "best quality" option, which just makes it blurry when resizing upward.
I could try to assure you that this is as far from what I did as you can imagine, but I won't. Try it yourself and compare your results to Authentic.
This pack was created by resizing each tile individually. The photoshop file is 8.3 MB flat, 393 MB open and has over 800 layers. Not all are visible in the final image as many are developmental layers.
If it looks like the original was justt resized, I'll take that as a compliment since that is the goal. Softness in the final is required unless I interpret it and change the original design. Going sharp pixel contrasts on the original to multiple pixels creating the same effect means I will inevitably soften contrast. That was the goal.
Like I said, no interpretation, no improvements, just the original textures at double resolution.
And this exists primarily because it's the first step on the way to generating the original textures at all four resolutions.

Umm I downloaded your texture pack and nothing changed at all... now every of the blocks is gray and has weird lava and water floaating on it. Wtf? Why would you troll everyone like this?
Also can you change it to 1024p? I dont thnik this is compatible with my 1024p realistic texture pack that I made and is far superior to this texture pack

Copper if you have the time and can put this in 128x128 I will KISS YOU! I'm sure that this will require making it from scratch mostly, but I would love to see Notch's Minecraft default textures in high-res :smile.gif:
Great Idea! Hope you don't mind this post :smile.gif:
I gave it a go to! :biggrin.gif: Was bored :tongue.gif: : 32x32:

Not at all.
It's not so easy as resizing is it? Getting smooth rounded cobble took me quite a bit of experimenting. Maintaining colors and brightness while increasing contrast was another bear.
To everyone saying I re-sized it and that's all. Ok, move along then. If you can't see a difference between this and the 16 px originals Ok, move along then. If you think I'm trolling you, Ok. Move along.
As for the original being sharper. You're absolutely right. It is. In fact the fewer pixels the sharper the image will become.
Picture a checkerboard. That is the default texture.
If I want to make it 32 pixels there are two methods available. Interpolation or no interpolation. If I use nearest neighbor that effectively makes every pixel a square group of four identical pixels. That would maintain the appearance and sharpness of the original textures. It would also be pointless as you would be using more data to represent the same amount of information. It would still be a checkerboard.
If you want to increase the percieved resolution then you have to make those nice crisp checks into interpolated, in-between black and white values. This makes the image appear more detailed, have more data in it, but it also reduces the contrast in the image and the result does not look as "sharp" as the original black and white only image.
In creating this pack, I chose not to re-interpret the original textures like Faithful and other packs do to make up for this loss of sharpness. I tried to maintain the exact nature of the original but replace that blocky high contrast and sharp looking cobble with smoothly curving cobble. That was the difficulty. Painting in new cobble would have been a damn sight easier. But that wasn't the plan.

For your own sanity I hope you used layer groups.
Also like others said it seems a blit blurry.
UPDATE
I've replaced this pic with version .2. First half of the first two rows are new. All wool redone. Some ores refined.
New? You say you added just some noise to get rid of the blur?
Dude, and all other dudes with criticism of my attempts to recreate the default textures at 32 pixels while maintaining the appearance of the original textures, here's an idea for you.
Do it.
If you think it's easy; DO it.
If you think you can resize the terrain.png too and that this pack is as simple as that; DO it.
If you think that you can do it; DO IT
Post your results. Show me how easy it is. Show me that you can do it, and do it better. Really, seriously, I'd like to see your results. So stop posting smart-ass cometary and go do it.
I'll post the best version, highlight the areas in which your effort clearly bests my work and, no ****, I will write a short song about you. If you best all my efforts here I'll log in, start fraps, generate a new world and sing it to you while running your 32 pixel pack. I'll post it on my youtube page and link to it here.
So, what are you waiting for? Go do it.
I'm trying to create something difficult. What are you doing?
Breathe in and imagine a calming wind blowing across your face and cooling your internet discourse chakra. You look up to the sky and away from the bridge before you, ignoring the denizens that dwell beneath. The sky is blue. Blue like the color of the Board Index text at the top of the screen. Your hands drift slowly, slowly to your mouse and it moves as if under some other influence than your humanity powered meat machine. You click the Board Index button and are whisked away to a metaphorical calming sea. You've landed at the dock. Before you are the plethora of threads that make up the seaside shanty town that is the Minecraft message board community. Pick a new thread and embark and a wonderful new voyage with a clean spirit and a clear mind.

Here's a gif of Authentic for 2 seconds, then the original Minecraft textures up-rezzed to 32 using nearest neighbor for 2 seconds.
