So, I'm sure some of us are fans of the Zelda series and have obtained a texture pack for minecraft, but it always felt like something was missing. Well, I don't what it is, but here is something to help make it all feel like you're in the middle of Hyrule. This font takes all of the capital letters and replaces them with their Hylian counterpart, as seen on this website: http://www.kasuto.net/language.php?main=language/alphabet.html
Now some of you may be thinking that letters like 'c' and 'q', who don't have a symbol in the Hylian alphabet will just show up as boring English letters. In order to fix this, I have created my own letters to replace them with which I feel fit the font style. Now for the good stuff:
There is one other thing I should mention. The game uses the same font file for just about every letter you see on the screen that isn't part of an image. So, what you get is shown below:
I have only done the capital letters so far (the Hylian alphabet only uses capitals) just to see how well this goes over. If people enjoy it, then Ill update it with the lowercase letters being replaced as well, and possibly the numbers from the same site.
To install save the image below to your computer and place into the folder in minecraft.jar called "font" . REMEMBER to backup your old font file. If you don't, that's not my problem.
Excuse me while I go pick up my jaw off of the floor. I've got a pretty good feeling that a TP font won't work, simply due to size constraints and how intricate each character is. If I could do a larger layout, like how larger textures can be used for the terrain, I'm not sure on how to do it. As for this "third party" alphabet, its loosely based around the text seen on signs in oot and mm. Take a look if you don't believe me.
Lowercase letters will be the same as upper case. Once again, go play oot and look at a sign. All of the letters are the same size, therefore the letters in this font file will also be the same size, upper or lower case. And thanks for the resizing code. Page stretching images are annoying.
This is really cool, I'm downloading it now! TBH, I don't think you should translate lower case letters. Even if you do, leave the option to download the upper case only version. Why? Because I use signs alot to actually name stuff and write stuff down so I won't forget. That way, you can have practical signs as well as awesome signs.
Anyway, good work. Keep it up.
Update: I have added in a version with both the uppercase and lowercase letters changed over. It does affect the chat in smp so be prepared.
Its not the hardest thing in the world to do, and Ill be willing to do requests if anyone wants me to. Just keep in mind that I only have 8x8 pixels to work with so detail is limited.
Nice work. For those of you who want to change sign text colors, see this viewtopic.php?f=35&t=104124 it just takes a bit of editing with NBTEdit & MCEdit.
I've also poked around with the font.txt file trying to get special characters to work, but just ended up with gibberish. If you could get those to work, you'd have a bunch more glyphs to edit.

Uppercase only http://i385.photobucket.com/albums/oo295/SWSOE/default.png
Upper and lowercase http://i385.photobucket.com/albums/oo295/SWSOE/default-1.png
(NOTICE: the upper and lowercase file must be renamed to default.png)
Suggestion, for lowercase, just make it like what small caps is. Ex:
HYRULE
Also for resizing embedded images, just use the [*simg][/*simg] tags instead of the img ones.. (Without the *)
Good job though.
