I wanna change the texture pack but I dont wanna go to the jar file and change stuff so I just wanna use the Mods and Texture Packs option at the title screen but I cant figure out how to do it....yes I am a noob
Go to the Mods and Texture Packs screen, hit the bottom left button that says Open texture pack folder, it will open the folder you need to save texture packs into. If you download a .zip texture pack, just save it into that folder and you will be able to select it from the texture selector. If the resolution is higher than 16x16, there will be some glitches with certain blocks, and custom water and lava (and possibly portal blocks, not sure on this) will not work correctly.
However, if it is NOT a .zip file, you just save it anywhere, create an empty .zip folder in the mods and texturepacks folder, name it if you wish, and place/extract all the contents of the texture pack there. Texture packs will only work if they are in a .zip folder, and if the contents of the texture pack are in a folder withing the .zip folder, it will not work, all the folders (Art, misc., terrain, etc.) have to be in the .zip file.
umm I wanted to use a 64x64 texture pack and my game won't even load up...it lingers on the Mojang logo and then crashes....help? But thanks for telling me that you have to put in the .zip
