Why is it when I try to use the 256 texture pack my minecraft lags? It lags on multiplayer and single player. I run a multiplayer server myself is it because of that? I set my java heap size thingy to -Xms256m -Xmx2048m. I got 4 gigs of ram and I have a AMD Phenom Quad Core Processor. Without the texture pack I don't lag..but am I able to run the 256 texture pack? Is there something wrong with my computer like I don't have enough ram? I get 12 FPS ingame..lol.
What is your Graphics card? i run an NVIDIA 460 1G and with any 256 pack im at about 95% GPU usage. these are VERY graphic heavy packs do to the card having to render each pixel on each block.
I'm using the 256 pack and the installer recommended in the first post. Everything works fine in single player when I use the "Test Minecraft" function. There is almost no lag, and everything is beautiful. However, from the Test function I cannot play multiplayer. When I try to start Minecraft normally as the installer says I can, it loads the Mojang logo and then after about 30 seconds goes black. It then says that it has stopped responding. Is this a problem with the texture or with the installer? How do I fix it? The game looks gorgeous with this pack, but i want to be able to play on my server.
The server is a private server that I host off the same computer. It is local area only. There is only one other person who plays on it.
Is the problem that running with the texture pack and running the server on the same machine takes to much?
I hope someone can help, I just got the game a few days ago, normally I'm pretty tech savvy, but I figured since I don't know Java I should ask for help before I muck anything up.
i really like this Texture i use modloader with side grass fix and i was wondering if you could make the side grass transparent as a addon :tongue.gif:
Pardon me, but when I follow the video to increase heap size and then use your pack on minecraft the screen stays black and then changes to the not responding screen.
I've not had that issue with increasing the Java heap size. The only reason I could think of is that your RAM isn't sufficient enough for the settings you put it as.
My system is a:
Microsoft XP professional Service Pack 3
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ 2.01Ghz
And I have 3.25 GB of RAM
Not sure I like the glass cube though, for the environment Im using it in. Its definatly better than default.
May I suggest giving the glass a more rough medieval look or western. The glass looks smooth and framed like it came from a modern factory. I think if we are trying to match the spirit of the defaut survival game here, glass wouldn't be made perfect. How about something that is just near the texture of a stained glass, but clear? Maybe slightly dusty looking too.
awesome texture pack downloading right now from the adf.ly link because it helps(l think)
Most certainly! ^^
Thank you everyone who use the adfly links. It's a great way to give support for this pack without actually doing anything but waiting 5 seconds. =)

But what I meant about the clouds was leave the sides empty, like transparent. So you do the texture to the clouds in a cube form right? So you do the lower on and leave all the rest transparent, empty.
One more thing people. I need some help.
I have 2 problems: I want a shaders and I cant find one cool and working. and I have some problems with the x256 texture pack. It have so many pixels that looks like its shining far away, wich is annoying. All the texture change when I move like a shiny noise. =S
Thx All
I'm working on making some better biome effective clouds. This way, you'll have some days being cloudy, overcast, or completely sunny with few clouds. This is turning out to be more difficult than I thought. =(
As for the issues, the shaders I have little to no knowledge in. I'd asking dufric, Phantom or Grugsy on the matter.
The shining is a lack of texture filtering within the actual game. This can be softened through your graphics card settings, but will leave some consequences such as outlined torches/wildgrass. There is also a mipmapping mod that fixes those issues, but I'm not sure if it has been updated yet.

It sounds like you're trying to run the server and minecraft off of 32bit Java which will cause tremendous lag. If you have a 64bit system, try installing 64bit Java and hopefully that works for you.

There's this weird thing on the diamond hoe!
It's been fixed for the next release. I offset an item accidentally when making them long ago and never moved it back. XD

Big willy this is a game, so Graphic card is important no??
I run this texture pack at an average of 60FPS so is not the texture pack LOL
Very nice FPS.
The graphics card plays a small role in Minecraft. It's mainly processing speed and RAM. The VRAM on a graphics card will help, though.

This is a really easy fix if it's what I'm thinking it is.
Use the Java allocation video located near the bottom of the main thread and that should remedy your issue. Minecraft doesn't automatically reallocate which the "test minecraft" function does.

Hello It's me again :smile.gif:
Yea version 128x128 it's working but if i will download the version 256x256 will not work.But.... if I go to the mc patcher and i click "Test Minecraft" Version 256x256 will don't crash :smile.gif: Also Your Diamond Hoe Have a bug :smile.gif: I can't play multiplayer if i click "Test Minecraft" :sad.gif: . If i click F3 The memory is about 50. Now I play with mods:( I like texture packs..... Your video with java heap size don't help me,what windows i can use ?? or i need windows...... 64bit Os
Read my response to the above person. It should be an easy fix if your "test minecraft" button works.

Interesting. I'll try to figure something out. The glass is very touchy because it doesn't allow transparencies without modding. This can be difficult, but adding dust might actually look good. Thanks. =)

I'm not seeing a sparkle. I want it glinting so bad my eyes bleed! XD
God dammit, I saved it, opened it on the texture pack screen and then my computer froze and closed minecraft. Now whenever I log on it freezes and closes minecraft straight away.
This is a known issue with using the texture pack method instead of the patcher/manual installations.
If you're on windows:
windows key + r
type in "%appdata%" without the quotes into the window that popped up
find .minecraft folder
open texture pack folder and delete this pack

It may be a known issue, but might also be something to do with your hardware and video card setup. Just a guess. Im not related to the mod, just trying to help out. Have you tried 64x64?
I had quite the opposite happen. Since the 1.4 patch update I was crashing. When I downloaded this mod the game started crashing rarely. So either the mod fixed it, or Notch is up to something.
Since the game still is in beta, I would always give it a try maybe in the next patch.

Im using seed -1784338777788894343 with this mod. Yes it's long, but it's quite worth it. It's said to be better than Glacier even.
If you start at the beach, you get tons of clay right away (in fact there is a second smaller batch a little farther down the beach), surrounding mountains and hills hidding dozens of hidden caverns, even ones that reach near the bedrock! Lots of resources within also. And this mod makes it awesome. Finding these places would be a lot easier on default textures, but thats the fun of it.
Think I'll start building a Dwarven city down there :biggrin.gif:
For the sake of some sanity hopefully....i will post what i did last page.
I too was unable to run the 256 texture pack and this is what i did.
1.i am running a 64 bit operating system and didnt have 64 java installed i installed it
2.It seems notch released a new minecraft launcher under our noses delete the .minecraft folder and do a fresh install using the .exe from the website and patch again.
Might be a bit late to pitch an opinion, but I gotta say the more rich brown to the soil is slightly more pleasing to the eyes than the current. Not to say the current is bad, but there's something slightly more earthy feeling to me about the newer sample.
Patiently awaiting the new update. =)

Are the files the same, but in a different location?
I haven't heard of anything of the sort yet either. I still have the 1.3_01 version, though. If that new launcher runs is smoother, I might update. =D

So it creates a separate entity other than the .minecraft folder? I'm confused otherwise. This also may be why mine was not running so smooth.

You'd only be late if I already released it. ^^
Anyway, yea I'm agreeing with the "earthy" feel being of a more brown color.
Update will come pretty soon. I've been struggling and pissed off ever since I overwrote my .psd with over 450 layers. =/
Will you be putting biome side grass in? really is a bit of a turn-off when you have lush green grass then some weird colored grass on the sides of blocks

I've attempted several times and I don't think it's possible with the limitations of that current mod. I have my grass blending so well with the dirt that if I were to use that mod it would look extremely odd or transition very harshly.
Besides that, I erased my entire terrain.psd and now I have to work off my .png as a base... That also complicates matters such as isolating the top part of the grass.

I tried that before. I used the numbers in the video. I also tried running minecraft without the server running in the background, and it still wouldn't load.

Hmm... That sucks. =/
What seems to be happening is that java is STILL running out of memory. I initially thought this could have been because of the background server both running off of Java, but that wasn't the case as you explained.
I have a few things you could try:
Have you installed the latest Java? Also, if you have a 64bit OS, try installing 64bit java as it's almost required for the 256x256 pack.
Worst comes to worst, you could just downgrade to the 128x128. It still retains much of the quality.
