first off all we got resource packs instead of texture packs and with that you can replace the sound files so the game will look for those files and perhaps thats taking more time and could decrease fps.
second all texture based mods like optifine must adapt on those changes so they are not increasing the fps like in 1.5
third you could have installed a new mod or some of the other mods you allready have got new content who is asking much of the game so the result is also a fps decrease.
this is everything i can come up with what could cause this perhaps your answer is in there?
From your response I was reminded that I don't have Optifine installed due to Sonic Ether's newest shaders using only Forge (which probably is the issue). Thanks for the response.
So how is your new project coming along that biome and terrain generation not to mention the view distance is amazing, cant wait till that is up and running or at least to a beta phase we can download. Love your work

If you got the 256x textures for the rpg mod working, but not the 512x, that may be because you don't have optifine/mcpatcher or that your pc doesn't handle it. Windows 7 isn't good enough of a description of a system. I have a windows 7, one will be a gaming computer with a strong processor and gpu(not assembled), while the other one has trouble playng MC at normal render distance. It would be helpful if you post your specs for things like this.

Oh wow, the specs could've helped. That's an awesome build there(the specs change everything, :P). So yeah, follow what Sedawan said and either 1. install Optifine or 2. patch it with McPatcher before. Also with that build, you could be running GLSL shaders, and look for shaderpacks on that thread(for GLSL, it's recommended without Optifine and MCPatcher as optifine seems to be buggy and not helpful, but you still can use it for HD features(CTM and better skies).
One thing annoyed me so much is that so many texture pack makers take hardened clay color names so literal. A lot of texture pack got hardened clay colors different from default colors. For example, default Cyan hardened Clay is grayish, but most texture pack makers make it actual cyan. Do they not know basic color mixing science? The original hardened clay have reddish color, not white. Mixing red and cyan makes it more gray than blue. Even Mojang pointed it out. A lot of people play on the servers and they pick hardened clay for colors. It'll be a lot of confusion if their creations look little different. No wonder some server forced certain texture packs.
wel your right it should be like it is in nature itself and with the color mix rules u said only sad blue hardened clay is more purple because blue is my fav color anyway i got wool for that.
So a ton of new foliage to be working. I'll get some screenshots probably in a few days. Should be quite a bit more immersive when 1.7 hits. =)
Ah, so you're working on some of the snapshot stuff as well then? I'd love to see a full release alongside the 1.7 update! ^-^ Or, of course, shortly following.
I really love this texture pack, it just sucks me in way more than any of the others I've used in the past. Since 1.7 gets shader support... *shudders in anticipation*
Good morning. I have a new computer with considerable power so I'm now finally able to use high-end texture packs. I selected yours and am thrilled with it, it's like discovering a new world!
(EDIT: earlier tiny glitch resolved after fiddling with Optifine. 256X is flawless and awesome!)

I'd like to download the 128vertion is terrain_s and terrain_nh, but it's not working.
What can I do?

Curse PremiumMojang changing texture pack format as often as they do makes looking for injects very very difficult.
What about Lapis Lazuli block?

256P MAKES MINECRAFT LOOK LIKE A WHOLE NEW GAME!!!!!
TOTALLY UPVOTED!!!
oh and btw, 128 is actually better. 256 makes my eyes hurt.
Use mipmapping from Optifine mod. Level 2 should do it.
I see people are calling it resource pack, but I'm still calling it texture pack.
