Specs would be good,, if you have a high end computer is probably something simple you're overlooking. I have far from a high end computer compared to whats available today, god Moore's law is a ***** to keep up with. I have a core 2 duo at 3.3, 4 gigs ram and one 460 card. I can run 256 pack no problems at all.
Can you give us a bit more information rather than saying you don't think a 128 pack is practical let alone 256, because clearly they both are?
im using this tex pack (256x256) as well as GLSL shaders viewtopic.php?f=25&t=128043&hilit=dof no problems (im still 1.2.02 since i use several mods and need to wait for them to update first) looks great..... best texture pack out IMO ..thanx i noticed in the environment folder there is falling rain and snow images, how do i get them to work (never seen falling rain or snow)
Cant wait for the new sand to be released, I hope that you also update some other stuff too ;P
Downgraded my minecraft (from some backups I made) to 1.2_02, Until I get moar mods for 1.3_01
Just tried it today, to be honest I can't get the damn thing to load, and I own a gaming rig. I really don't think a 128 pack is practical let alone 256, I think you should maybe bring the res down to 64x64 or at least have an optional, my computer is high end and 128 wouldn't even load the game.
Instead of blaming the pack because it won't load on your computer, try to see some options. I dont' even have a really good computer and I'm getting a comfortable 40-50 fps even with a few mods installed on the 256x256.
What are your computer specs and which method of installation did you use? I guess I should ask if you installed the hd patcher as well.
What is your computer specs anyways?

Wow, that's quite impressive. Linux isn't a memory hog so I can see why it would run smoother. ^^

Very, very sweet pack! Thank you! The only downturn for me is, that in the distance it tends to tear up the water as one pans around the camera view and also the land textures have this corny effect goin on. Not an expert here, but i think this is because of a lack of mipmapping in the game, which makes the textures sharper in the distance by replacing them with a lower resolution image. Kinda like .dds format, am i right?
If you ask me, there should be much better compability for HD Textures in the future, aswell as the option for better/wild grass. They already did it for better light, so here is hoping, that we will be seeing atleast some
of it incorporated soon(tm).
Dof is of course also very sexy. ^^
I have fixed the water issue and is awaiting to be put into the new update coming fairly soon. =)
But yes, you are correct with the lack of mipmapping. This also hits the memory pretty hard without mipmapping because it will run each texture at a full 256x256 instead of the typical game running such a texture to about 16x16 or even 4x4 at great distances.
Unfortunately, the mipmapping mod is no longer working for the 256x256 packs (at least for me) and I'll have to deal with the grain effect until Notch does something about it.

Notch removed the snow and rain from the vanilla MC a few updates back, but I think there is a mod out there that re enables them. It does take more memory, but I'm not sure how much, keep in mind.

My specs:
Windows 7 64-bit
64-bit Java
4gigs of RAM
ATI HD Radeon 4500/5100 series
Not too impressive which is why most people should be able to play this just fine.

this looks really nice but i dont know if my comp can run is smoothly
What are your computer specs?
I should add in a recommended computer requirements area in my main page. XD
Well for the GPU, Anything above 256MB...
My CPU is in the phenom II series, So anything thats similar/above 2.1GhZ (And almost anything OC'd) And Doesnt Overheat, I can play GTA IV @ 30FPS, Which is quite good. At medium
@Scuttles - An Earlier conversation: It didn't work :sad.gif: I tried turning everything to 'use application settings' but no... Still white lines :S
I double checked and I have no anomalies with my torches even upon close inspection of the image in a photo editor. =(
Do you have a ATI or an Nvidia graphics card? I found that turning off catalyst AI with the ATI helps many problems. Also is your card up to date with the most current version or is it at a stable previous one? If all else fails maybe a reinstall of everything will help the issue.
I'm trying to help you mate, but it's just a really weird problem that I can't replicate. XD
IT reference: "Have you tried turning it off and booting it up again?"

I know this was for martin, But I have Catalyst AI on advanced and it works, But I will disable it and see if it get better fps.
Just downloaded this texture pack and ran it with mcpatcher but i have a problem :S After the mojang logo it just goes black and then crashes, did I miss something?
increasing the heap size helps...a bunch! I only run 128x pack... but I run a server off this comp as well.. dedicated 2gig to java and now it's smooth sailing

hey ive updated the glass mod for 1.3. The link is on my thread. Thx
Thanks. I put up a link to your thread so others can see your work. I do longer support the glass mod, but I do use some of your stuff. Slimes, mainly. XD
I am looking forward to that enhanced mining mod that you're working on. So much frustration will be relieved. ^^
Lol ive got a new verison of slimes for 1.3 ready with different spawning conditions and the advanced mining mod i could have done pretty quickly. Ill get it done soon. For now i have heaps of homework and a assingment :sad.gif:

thanks... memory is not a problem for me ... any idea where i can find this rain and snow mod? cant seem to find.
