every day? i have dual screen so one of then is permanently on this page. I just refresh every hour!!!
Im on a laptop, not dual screening, but i wish i was... and multiple times a day would be more accurate. I refuse to use any other texture pack. This is THE one for me.
sorry to hear that you play minecraft on a laptop. My sentiments. Every time i try to play on my laptop I just get upset with the laging. Don't even try anymore.I dont have the money to buy a very powerful laptop so i build my desktop with 8Gb of memory but only 1Gb of DDR5. I can play up to 256 x 256 but the 512 x 512 gets to lag. saving money for a new PC i hear talking of texture pacs going all the way up to 1024 x 1024. I think it would be very nice to be able to play on these settings.
Can't wait any longer for the update. I hate Default.

Its not smart to play with 1024x1024 or even the 512x512, since the common resolution is 1920x1080, you would only have advantage of the 1024x1024 if only 2 blocks fill your whole screen, once 4 blocks fill your whole screen you could just use the 512x512 and most of the time 100+ blocks fill your screen...so I dont think the 512 or 1024 is worth the massive ram/cpu cost.

I run 512x all the time. It's no big deal if you allocate 2GB RAM to Minecraft and have a GPU with 1.5GB or more VRAM. I can run 1024x with 3GB RAM just fine.

I am no graphicd tech, but I think you are mixing screen resolution with block resolution,In default minecraft the block resolution is 16 x 16 meaning 256 pixels per block face. now doing the math, 32 x 32 gives you1024 pixels per block face witch allows for a lot more details. with a texture pack of 128 x 128 if you go close to a block you can see the litle squares that are the pixels.I always play at 256 x 256 (65.536 pixels per block face). My screen resolution is 1600 x 900 ( 1.440.000 ) The ideal situation is to play with enough resolution to never be able to discern individual pixels even when looking up close to a block. Like I said my PC canot handle 512 x 512 the game lags so much that it's impossible to play. but the screenshots are amazing.
Love and peace.

Heh, I can't even use 256x, but many 128x work just fine. It isn't because of lag specifically, but when I select a 256x resolution, all textures end up pure white and I can't see a thing.

What I mean is that you gain very little and have to use massive extra ram/cpu, so this makes it not worth it.

Do you ever use 512x? It's whole lot better than 256x. It's not really much "massive" extra RAM/CPU. It's not 2005, most modem gaming PC have plenty of resources. 2GB RAM usage is nothing.

yes, if you are looking at blocks from a very short distance...which is less then 1% of the time...and I just dont think its worth it to max your pc its performance just to get some extra pixels only when you are standing right next to a block and looking at it. Your pc also uses alot more energy...bad for enviroment and money...

Minecraft is not demanding as many modern PC games even on 512x. Try playing Metro 2033, Crysis, and Battlefield 3. They use more energy and that's normal. Extra pixels is already nice. I don't know about your eyesight, I can easily see the difference between 256x and 512x from 3 blocks away which you spend most of the time if you're building or mining.

I dont know what your screen resolution is, but its probably 1920x1080, from 3 blocks away and FOV of 90 you should see 10 blocks in length = 1920 / 10 = 192 pixels per block, from this distance you have no need for the 256 extra pixels the 512 gives you.
No graphics tech. IAll I know is that 512 looks a lot better. Period. I will invest on another Video card. Not just for minecraft sake I should mention. There are other games coming that need more powerfull graphic cards.
Love and Peace

1920x1080 with FOV of 70 I see like 6 blocks(1920/6 = 360) when I'm building or 4 or less blocks when I'm mining. I don't care how much pixels show on my monitor. I'm running 512x because I can.

Nowhere near finished, but I needed to take a break from texture work.
Anyway, I'm trying to get the pack updated to simply 1.4.5. Unless I'm missing something completely, the snapshot for the fireworks update didn't have any additional textures added but we'll see about that later. To be honest, I'm not sure what is left to do anymore since I keep dropping it and picking it back up days later. =S
