Even when I used 256x with the RPG texture pack the quality still doesn't look even similar to the quality of the picture in the first post for the RPG texture pack.
from the looks of those screenshots, he is also using a shaders mod for the dynamic shadows and lighting. For visual effect, it makes all the difference.
I originally chose this pack from the dozens available because of this stupefyingly awesome screenshot, and while I am still very happy with it, especially the dirt, stone, and wood that all the other packs I've tried just don't compare to... yeah, I too would like to know how to make my Minecraft actually look like that. What do I need besides just the texture pack?

Originally, I actually created that picture in Photoshop to promote the upcoming shaders mod and the capabilities that it can do. Today, the shaders look better than that picture and I highly recommend them if your computers can run it.

What shaders mod? GLSL Shaders? I looked at their page and the screenshots look a lot less ambitious than that.

Scuttles Thank you for this pack, perfectly worked with 1.3.2+Forge+ModLoader+OptifineHDA3, on $600 notebook the game runs on 40-60fps! I'll try 1024x =)

Waiting for 1.3.2 full-compatible version!
You won't able to run 1024x with your $600 notebook.
Don't say so, 1024x was loading for 30 minutes and played 5-10 fps on my Dell N5110 i5 8gb ram. (Like Crysis on Pentium 4 3ghz )
Also, I think that's a bug or something, they shouldn't look that bad:
wood axe
stone shovel
stone pickaxe
It took you 30 minutes to start up MC with 1024x? It only took me few minutes. I get 80-130 fps in crowed area like the city and 130-200fps in more open area. I gave 4GB RAM to MC. It uses almost all of my 2GB VRAM(video memory).
I'm aware of the missing texture for the "list" interface. It's been fixed for the final release.
Working fine for me, other than some grainy appearances from afar. Not sure what's causing it though, as it works fine when I use it with Tekkit. Other than that though, looks good,

The above line shows that you did not allocate more memory to Minecraft since minecraft normal starts with 512 minimum and 1024 max
In a text editor such as note pad in windows you need to put something like this:
javaw -Xms1024m -Xmx2048m -jar "C:\Games\Minecraft\Minecraft.exe"
You must change the path in quotes to the path of your minecraft.exe file.
Make sure when you save the file you select all files not .txt and save the file with a name like this: Minecraft.bat
Save the file to your desktop so you can find it. The icon for it should have two blue gears indicating it is a bat file.
You can make sure it worked by going into options and clicking snooper settings.
Scroll down and look at the lines jvm_arg[0] and jvm_arg[1]
512 is half a gig and 1024 is 1 gig of ram.
Never allocate more ram then your system has installed, always try to leave 2 gigs of ram for your system.
Life is a Learning Curve....
Unfortunately, you're stuck on the bottom...amongst the bones of the stupid.

I REALLY had it planned for last night, but really distracted by the new update and played Minecraft for hours instead, haha.
Finishing up the GUI as we speak and I will upload in a couple hours.

I figured it out. Getting those creative menus done as well.
Downsampling and preparing to upload, atm. ^-^
