Hi not to bother you but where do you put those png terrian files same question as furious1964 thanks advance will not bother you agian after this and i'll vote as soon as i get it to work
Hey Scuttles. I love the pack. I've been a user since I first got minecraft. However, I have two problems with the pack. First, I hate the gui, and the items textures. The items look ok when you are walking around, but when I go into inventory with the grey boxes that they are in, I can barely see what item it is, much less how many I have. An easy fix for this would be to change the color of the gui. The other problem isn't with the pack itself, but more the forum page. It's not something like I can't find the download, but you should label the dl and say what version of minecraft it's for, and what is missing. With all of the links you have, it would be easy to get mixed up, but sometimes the 128 pack wont have everything the 256 pack will have. Also, with your rpg pack, since that isn't your main pack and it's behind, it would be nice if you could say what version it's for. And, one last thing, with your bumpmapping and speculars, I don't know whether those are up to date, or if the shader files are. With all of this complaining, you must get the impression I don't like it. On the contrary, I can't even find words for how amazing this pack is. I hope you have as much fun making this pack as I do playing with it.
Okay, noob question: what's the difference between xms and xmx when allocating? i just have the 1g for both right now... does it matter?
I think xms means minimal RAM allocated and xmx means maximum RAM allocated. For example, -xms512M -xmx1024M means it will allocate ranging 512MB to 1GB RAM depending on MC.
Hey guys, just noticed a small textural issue, just thought I should let you know :tongue.gif: (There could be more, not sure)
Oh, and not sure why, but the photos came up as 1022 x 542, my actual screen res. is 1920 x 1080, and should come in at 1920 x 1018 in windowed mode. Sorry for the fuzziness of the screenshot :/ (Yes, I had my game in full windowed mode)
I never played any of those games, but unless they solely consist of absolutely square surfaces as well, you can't compare resolution of textures like that. I know what you're trying to say, but the textures in Minecraft just happen to be exact squares, unlike most of the other games out there.
I get this, but walk up close to a full res texture in BF3 Ultra settings (Which you probably can't do due to not having it), and tell me how it compares when looking at MC with this running. Odds are, the textures are noticably better in BF3. Now, play Skyrim, and you may have a case. The texture resolution in that is... bad. Its why I have a ton of texture mods for it, makes it look a TON better.
Sure, you can wish that. But it's never going to happen. Period.
Reason: You can't just 'move into' another programming language when the game is completed like Minecraft is. You'd have to rewrite the entire code from scratch in the other language and that's something NO programmer is likely to do, unless they have a very good reason for it. Minecraft is running more or less fine on Java, so it's going to stay with Java.
I get this too. I do coding myself. It is something I would personally like to see - Jeb rewrite MC in another programming language - though it is also something I know will never happen due to the amount of work involved.
Yes and no. Average textures created in modern gaming is around 1024^2 and 2048^2. Now, they also are free to do whatever they want with textures as well where as Minecraft is forced to have a square resolution meaning a 800x1200 texture will never work in this game (without some mad issues or modding). Additionally, modern games are able to "blend" textures very easily which creates the image of a more seamless world.
That is what Skyrim's average textures were anyway, and I could markedly tell a difference between its textures and the textures of higher res games like BF3. It would not surprise me if BF3 used 4096 or 8192 textures - especially considering it was largely sold on its graphics (A lot of that was in the brilliant lighting engine, yes, but I personally notice a difference between textures in BF3 and most other games. Except bushes. Bushes never look any different...)
And yes, I get why even higher res textures wouldn't work in MC. It is somewhat a wonder that people managed to get 512 working.
We also have to consider that the entire Minecraft world is essentially "destructible" and every object can be moved, broken, or created in-game. So each game has their own reason for looking "good", I guess is my point. XD
Play the Back to Karkand BF3 pack, it has the majority of the world being destructible too (Not to the extent of MC of course, you can't dig yourself down to bedrock, but you can level buildings and such). Agreed that all games have their own aesthetics that make them look good though. It is half the reason I made it past the intro in Skyrim before installing the Texture Packs.
As Estelyen said, it's simply just not going to happen. To make an analogy, it's like creating a x512 resolution pack with my original Photo Realism textures which were x256 native. You can't upscale because it would look the same or even worse so you have to build it from the ground back up again. Taking ages. =(
Yeah, I get this, and believe me I understand the lack of motivation to do such a thing. I would personally see it as a worthwhile investment of time, as it would increase FPS for all, allowing more to use higher res TPs and shader sets, and those who can barely run MC to begin with would probably find it easier to run too.
Performance is high on my priority list, which is why I currently only use Sonic's shaders for screenshots. I put every effect I want on (HDR, Glare, SSAO, Dynamic Shadows, God Rays [Which sadly do basically nothing, but I can see a bit of the effect to the side of the screen why at a right angle to the sun], everything waving, Bumpmapping (Aquired through a modified version I think on page 52), Bokeh DoF and probably some others, and my FPS is my main building area drops to about 15 (Normal play it will sit at about 28 though). Can't stand that so I just use it for screenshots, and use the Water Shader mod for normal play.
I do get that most people would probably just prefer more content though. I personally don't, as it gets really annoying having to constantly change maps for the new content for some reason or other, and it caused my server to requisition a new map, which I'm in charge of building, and which is taking up a ton of time to make.
JAVA!!!!!!
I may update my Java again. I heard version 7 is pretty nice. Hopefully that does the trick.
From memory such things do help, though I've only ever used Java 7 with HD TPs in MC, so I don't really know if it will give a performance increase or not.
Haha, I'm still working on getting it better. :wink.gif:
Even though it looks brilliant as is anyway :smile.gif:
I thought I would make a fan made update for the Connected Textures mod (built into OptiFine) as of 2/14/2012
To install just put the ctm.png file inside of the OptiFine_1.1_HD_S_D.zip file. Currently it is using the 128x textures. I have no plans to make other resolutions or provide future updates.
I'm having this, except with both versions of "I" nd the lowercase "L."
Life is a Learning Curve....
Unfortunately, you're stuck on the bottom...amongst the bones of the stupid.
8 bit?
really?
16x is low enough and even then this pack is designed to be realistic/hd
8 bit would look terrible

It goes in the your texture pack zip folder.

Download the 128x ctm.png here.
I'm re uploading the video for better quality ;D
