I want it to allocate enough ram so it's not laggy. And if I don't set a minimum the game doesn't allocate enough.
Are you trying 512x pack? You can try optifine mod and it has mipmapping option which get rid of grainness. Adding more RAM doesn't make it less laggy especially if you're allocating more than 2GB. The only bottlenecks I can think of is CPU and GPU VRAM. I assume you have AMD Phenom II X6 1090T BE, you can overclock to 3.8GHz easily. It might help since MC is single threaded unless you have multithreaded support optifine.

I used MC Patcher to patch my game. 3.2GHz isn't enough for less lag?

*sigh* Optifine can improve fps, but it's not compatible with GLSL. Even GLSL is little laggy at times with 512x for me. 3.8GHz is better than 3.2GHz, so it might improve fps for you. Sorry about your thread Scuttles.
Scuttles, old bean!
Is there any way you can design some of the textures for the "Earth" by Sept. 10th? Not everything, but maybe like grass, dirt, stone, trees? The goal is to make it as realistic as possible [your specialty :tongue.gif:]Enough at least to make an appearance, if you know what I mean. I have recruited more people for the project, and the wheels are finally turning! :smile.gif:
Also, have you seen steelfeathers' 6hr texture pack contest? you should check it out

Ah, I'm just giving you a hard time. =)
Optifine really should help him with the lag. Just be sure it's on a fresh install beforehand.

We'll see. I've been working vigorously on the wildgrass for the x512 (I'm REALLY wanting this to raise the bar on the use of wildgrass) and the 1.8 updates for both packs.
Everything, of course, has been slowed down by the payload of college.
That is my specialty so I'll be sure to write a sticky note on my desktop for when I get things more under control. :wink.gif:
I have looked at the 6hr competition, but I don't think I'd do very well. I'm far too thorough and 'anal' about my texturing to the point of almost inefficient. Took 45 minutes alone to create the red top of a mushroom today. =(
Came out nice, though: http://i.imgur.com/cgXqTh.jpg

I'm the same way, but I decided to try it anyway :tongue.gif:
Check out the thread, you can see what I have so far. I think I'm going to transfer some of that stuff into my synthetic reality pack too, like my rails. Man, I love my rails.
That looks.... real. Nice job
What program(s) do you use to make your textures?
That looks fantastic. I see what you mean about raising the bar. I would love to have this level of detail and realism when you get some time for the Earth terrain. :smile.gif: Lookin good, old bean.
Pretty sure the water in this pack is from Amnesia: The Dark Descent, seeing as I found multiple textures of the water in
Amnesia: The Dark Descent > redist > lights. The files I found were 001 - 018gobo which are the same as your water.
Seems legit.

I use Photoshop CS5. I got a huge deal on it in College. Nearly 80% discount. ^^
You're doing pretty well on that 6hr competition. Nice to see you're getting some fresh and interesting ideas out of it as well.

5GB is too much. If your game is allocating around 1400MB then it needs 1.5-2GB RAM.
Yes but it's still giving me horrible lag spikes. I want no lag, or at least when I'm walking around no lag.
Edit: Not to mention the game just crashed on me.
MC just crashed on you with 5GB allocated? Try 2.5GB, but I think it's your hardware limit. Try overclocking your CPU.
The file says 5GB is allocated minimum, but in game it never uses more than 1400MB of RAM. So I think something's wrong?
Erase Xmsxxxx and Xmxxxx at the beginning and add -Xmx2556M after -Xincgc at near end. You don't need 5GB RAM.
EDIT: Give me your full specs.

Shenanigans.
No kidding. XD
I come back to a troublesome amount of troubleshooting.
