Well, now you mention diamond ore would be good for bumpmapping. Now imagine mining through the stones looking for the diamonds and then you saw something shiny light blue object sticking out. It give better feeling from finding diamonds.
I tried getting it into a vein, but really didn't appeal to me as much as the current one. Maybe make it a bit smaller so it's like a small diamond popping out?
They look incredible. The diamond lends itself to bumpmapping well. I Think the others could look recessed maybe so it looks like the stone broke away from it.
I'll try to get them embedded some more. The pack is still in a pretty rough shape so I'm open for change.
Scuttles, Did you pick me as a tester? :biggrin.gif:
...Oops. :blink.gif:
Kidding, I thought you disappeared for another two weeks. I'll send you the link since you've done a bunch of tech support here as well. Just not as much as Phantom. XD
Superb work Scuttles! I love how each ore looks like it maintains
its original, realistic feel.
The diamond especially looks embedded sooo deep into the stone.
Fantastic work. Only if I can handle the 512x. 256 is even pushing it... With that
said, are the textures made at a higher resolution and downscaled or upscaled from 256 pixels?
Thank you. The x512 doesn't use too much more RAM than the x256, but it seems to be enough to make a significant difference.
I will be downscaling the x512 to probably a x64 minimum. MAYBE a x32 if it looks decent enough. Still so much to do still until I can call it a full pack.
Hi! THX a lot for the TexPack!
Because I never installed a TexPack before I actually had a ruff time to figure out that you really need the MC-Patcher because I simply overread it. (I startet with setting up Java and forgott anything else xD and well if I read some of the comments I think that happend to others too..).
Maybe you want to point that out better (I mean just say it (more) on top) for other (semi-)noobs like me? :wink.gif:
cheers
D.
Maybe I'll bold it or make it obnoxiously obvious to read. XD
Hello i have a Problem between my stones are blue lines someone has a idea what i can do ?
I installed
OptiFog + Optimine 1.7.3_HD_C
and the 256x
I have a
ATI HD 6870 (i think thats the problem and i think i read sth about that but i cant find the thread)
amd 4x2,8ghz
java 6 because i had big lags with java 7
I think that may have to do with the mipmapping in the mod. I'd try fiddling with the different levels to see if that helps.
i have a question when i put on the (32x32) i can't see water it just looks like empty space and the compass and clock are unusable i will like to know i can do to fix that or is it just my computer and i cant us 64x64 or higher and i dont realy like 16x16 and i will realy like to use this texture pack

Creepy, because the clouds are held in a separate .png, and those are from the items...
Also, Scuttles, I can't wait to test it >:biggrin.gif:
(Watch me get like 3-10FPS >:biggrin.gif:)
Oh and, I don't disappear - I check this topic every 1-2 days - I just don't post all the time anymore.
I'm no longer looking for testers. I have them all selected and I will continue to update this thread with the progress on the x512. I'm almost finished with the ores. Critique please. =)
Getting this on 256x256 (Both compressed and not compressed) on a Macbook (Early 2011, Intel HD 3000, Mac OS X 10.7). I'm using OptiFog 1.7.3_HD_D_MT2 (Multithreaded). No other mods installed.
Well, both of those are separate programs. You need one OR the other (not both) to enable the ability to use texture packs with images larger than the default 16 x 16 pixels.
The "HD Patcher" (really "MCPatcher HD" which is not to be confused with a different "Minecraft Version Patcher" which is actually used for changing which version of Minecraft you currently have installed and are using but also happens to have the same "MCPatcher" file name) is used mainly only for adding the ability to use HD textures, HD Fonts, and enable Better Grass. However, it can also be used for patching other mods into your minecraft.jar file for you.
The "OptiFog+Optimine" Mod also enables HD Textures, HD Fonts, and Better Grass (just like the HD Patcher does, which is no longer needed if you use "OptiFog+Optimine" instead). However, unlike the HD Patcher, it additionally gives you a huge speed performance boost regardless of whether or not you're on a slow or fast computer. Also unlike the HD Patcher, it allows you to tweak a lot of other aesthetic settings such as enabling additional effects or modifying cloud heights and fog distance, animations, smooth lighting, etc, etc. Even if you enable all of the fanciest/best graphic settings with this, the mod still gives you a huge speed performance boost. So, I highly recommend using this one instead. The only difference is that the HD Patcher can patch in other mods for you if you don't like to take the time to add a mods files into the minecraft.jar file yourself. But, not only are there other programs for that (even without having to modify the file at all), it seems a small price to pay for also getting such a huge performance increase at the same time. Especially, when you're also using higher-detailed texture packs in the 256 x 256 pixel range. In fact, it has allowed people to use higher-pixel texture packs they weren't able to use before due to the speed of their computer.
They also just came out with another new version again. There were a few small patches along the way to fix a couple of bugs but all is stable again now. It's now in the "D" version (I previously posted about the "C" version they had released).
In fact, the new version "D" has now added MULTI-THREADING Support! If you thought it increased your speed before, the multi-threading takes it another whole step further.
Here's an updated link. This one will always take you to the thread for it regardless of what version. So, Scuttles, you should probably update the info for this on the first page again. Maybe just quote this post and replace the previous quote. :biggrin.gif:
Make sure you get the Multi-Threaded "MT" version. The latest version at the time of this posting is "OptiFog + Optimine 1.7.3_HD_D_MT2" (listed under just "OptiFog 1.7.3_HD_D_MT2"). It will still work on your computer even if you only have a processor with only one core.
NOTE, the name of the "OptiFog+Optimine" Mod is in the works to be changed. This is partly to hopefully help give a better idea of what it is and does since the current name(s) are a bit ambiguous.

The 128x128 textures are working fine.
Higher texture packs need more system video memory available. That being onboard video, it probably isn't allowing you to allocate enough memory to allow the 256x pack. You could see if you could allocate more memory to the video in the BIOS settings. But, then you'd also be taking away from the system memory to allocate it to the onboard video. Because it seems a memory issue, I would suspect you'd have the same problem trying to run the 256x pack even if you used the HD patcher instead. Plus, you'd lose the performance increases you should be gaining at the moment.

It's not even worth it for me to try to run the 256x pack with HD Patcher, as the game runs too badly (Goes slow with the 128x pack). But I'm be curious to see if the texture pack shows correctly if I use HD Patcher instead.
Apparently 384MB of memory are assigned to my video card. I wonder if it's even possible to change that number! I'll do some research..

You're welcome. And, yeah, don't think you'd be able to run the 256x pack with that little video memory. Sorry.
I love this texture pack (I use the x256 version).
...but, is there an easy way I could remove the modifications it makes to the sky? While the sun and moon are very well done, I find myself missing the square sun and moon. Similarly with clouds, although the only thing that bothers me about clouds is they just look bad. The "realistic" texture tacked onto the underside of the cloud boxes bothers me any time I'm at an elevation where I can see the cloud boxes clearly.
Thanks for the great work, I look forward to future versions of this texture pack!
True enough. Just looked at your x512 today. It's looking damn good. =)

Lol, don't worry about it. I'm getting a public release out this Friday/Saturday area (EST)
I know, right? =D
Decided to take an entirely new route while still maintaining realism for the ores

Use MCPatcher or Optifog.

Nailed it with the ores. I'm really looking forward to the 512X. Keep up the good work.
